Hand sanitiser sold out everywhere

I’m absolutely NOT in panic mode about the corona virus. However, I thought it may be sensible to get a couple of bottles of hand sanitiser for the kids to use at school and also for me as I have an Invisalign brace and do have to put my fingers in my mouth when out and about to remove it to eat when on the go if I don’t have access to wash facilities.
But it is sold out everywhere or charging crazy prices online. I suppose everyone else has had the same idea but I also expect there are a few panic buyers out there.
Do you think this will all calm down soon?

Huge bottles in our local market for a pound but I didn’t see anyone buying them

Pinkerpellosa · 02/03/2020 13:40

Would coconut oil work instead of aloe vera?

Abraid2 · 02/03/2020 13:49

Pinkerpellosa

They do.

Lordfrontpaw · 02/03/2020 13:51

I was asked to get some for the office - crikey you cant get it for love around and the prices on Amazon/Ebay are disgraceful.

planningaheadtoday · 02/03/2020 13:55

@ShoppingBasket vodka is only 40% proof. By the time you've mixed it will aloe Vera gel you've brought it down to 20% alcohol content.

70%. Alcohol kills the virus.

ursuslemonade · 02/03/2020 14:01

Wow not a single one can be bought online on boots.com either Confused

EmmaGrundyForPM · 02/03/2020 14:01

We are about to start a building project, builder is booked to come in 4 weeks time and to keep costs down Dh and I said we would do the prep work in the utility room which includes dismantling thi interior of it. I'm now worrying that we have no masks and dh has asthma. There will be a lot of dust.

ursuslemonade · 02/03/2020 14:05

Apparently you can make a dust mask out of an old bra...never tried it thoughSmile

Lordfrontpaw · 02/03/2020 14:09

I have looked at all the main stores in the uk websites - nada. Even Dettol online was useless.

Apparently you can use vodka and coconut oil. I assume drink one and rub the other all over your body for a laugh.

Songofsixpence · 02/03/2020 14:13

I’ve been trying to buy some for work - we have those big dispensers dotted around - can’t get any.

I need to order some face masks for work as well and they’re out of stock everywhere

carnivalisover · 02/03/2020 14:21

I bought rubbing alcohol 70% on Amazon, and aloe vera gel. To keep the alcohol strength for effectiveness, should I add as little as possible gel to the mix?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 02/03/2020 14:28

I tried to order bottles of it from my supplier for work but the only ones available were the big bags of it designed for dispensers.

EliK · 02/03/2020 14:30

I already got some last week no problem but went to get some for a family member today and it's all gone. Tried about 7 shops.

inwood · 02/03/2020 14:33

I wonder if by drinking the vodka you can sanitise from the inside out? Sounds like a lot more fun!

Robuns · 02/03/2020 14:34

Boots keeps going back into stock now and again online, but there's no limit on how many you can buy it seemed the other day. I only ordered 2, but I bet someone ordered loads and wiped them out! The thing with the hoarders (by that I mean those who have copious amounts) is that others have some as well and using it when out and about and there's no access to water might help prevent the spread a little.

ballsdeep · 02/03/2020 14:34

You can also make a mask our of a sanitary towel!
It's beyond ridiculous.

BearimyJeremy · 02/03/2020 14:38

I got my lads pump bottles of the antibac handwash which is still pretty plentiful and have told them to use that, really good hot wash and dry with hand driers frequently as they can break, toilet and dinner etc. I reckon that'll be pretty thorough, potentially more so than a quick wipe of the hands with a splodge of gel.

BearimyJeremy · 02/03/2020 14:39

Meant to add as it's their own soap they won't be touching dispensers or grubby bottles etc.

Luunaa · 02/03/2020 14:43

I REALLY need to get hold of some for work. I'm in a SEN school and the kids hand washing is pretty much never. But there's none to be found.

Lordfrontpaw · 02/03/2020 14:45

The teacher suppliers dont have it? Thats daft. Maybe Costco or some other wholeseller?

BananaChocolateLump · 02/03/2020 14:47

I got some earlier but I'm not telling where.

Lordfrontpaw · 02/03/2020 14:50

Was it in a public bathroom near SecretIdentitee?

Robuns · 02/03/2020 14:50

It might be worth checking smaller local shops, Co-Op seems to have been selling out but managing to replenish.

Paddington68 · 02/03/2020 14:51

Use soap.
