Hand sanitiser sold out everywhere

I’m absolutely NOT in panic mode about the corona virus. However, I thought it may be sensible to get a couple of bottles of hand sanitiser for the kids to use at school and also for me as I have an Invisalign brace and do have to put my fingers in my mouth when out and about to remove it to eat when on the go if I don’t have access to wash facilities.
But it is sold out everywhere or charging crazy prices online. I suppose everyone else has had the same idea but I also expect there are a few panic buyers out there.
Do you think this will all calm down soon?

Well, not if they are believing it is a good substitute for washing hands thoroughly and not if they are bulk buying (and selling online for £££) so that anyone else cant gets their hands one any.

Robuns · 04/03/2020 12:55

It was in response to another poster saying people needed to get a grip as liquid soap was low.

PonderTweek · 04/03/2020 12:57

Had a Tesco grocery delivery yesterday and was able to squeeze a couple of small bottles of hand sanitiser in. Had a look today and they still have some antibac hand wipes available, so that's something I suppose.

My son has a fever today and I had to ring the nursery to let them know he's not coming in. I had to answer all sorts of coronavirus questions and it felt a bit awkward, but I'm also reassured that the nursery are doing their bit.

Is there anything I can add to my DIY rubbing alcohol and aloe vera gel so that I don't smell awful? Maybe lavender or orange oil?

Devlesko · 04/03/2020 13:10

it will soon stock up again, no need for anyone to panic.

SouthWestmom · 04/03/2020 14:26

Boots had soap and glory just now hand wash. Doubt it's the correct strength but I've bought three (one each for the kids) because if they are going to get the virus they may as well avoid other things in the meantime.

SouthWestmom · 04/03/2020 14:26

Online for collection

SouthWestmom · 04/03/2020 14:29

This one. They seem to get random ones in every so often. Missed out yesterday as they all went straight away

Hand sanitiser sold out everywhere
grizzlysky · 04/03/2020 14:31

there’s none anywhere by me

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 14:36

I cant get the boots site to work!

middleager · 04/03/2020 15:03

None in Dunhelm or The Range.
People asking for it while I was there.

One man coughing and spluttering without covering his mouth or containing it in any way.

Nomorewineever · 04/03/2020 15:30

Is the soap and glory one the right alcohol %?

SouthWestmom · 04/03/2020 15:44

I don't know , I did say I wasn't sure but at least they will be less susceptible to germs generally.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 20:52

Well I’ve just made a batch. It absolutely honks! You will be able to smell me coming a mile off!

Geoffreythecat · 04/03/2020 21:02

There are some odd suggestions on this thread. Why bother with hibiscrub when soap works fine? You need water for hibiscrub so you might as well save yourself some money and use soap and water instead. And as for put listerine in a spray bottle there isn't enough alcohol in mouthwash to use it as an effective hand gel.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/03/2020 21:34

Only on MN do you ask a simple question and get told you’re strange! I asked about Hibiscrub and whether it making up a small amount in a spray bottle would work if I didn’t have soap and water and can’t get hand gel. In my case it wouldn’t cost me anything as I always keep some for the cat!

Geoffreythecat · 04/03/2020 21:44

That wasn't to you Pink, it was to someone who'd bought some (not for the cat Grin ).

Sakura7 · 05/03/2020 10:23

Anyone had any success in finding stock in the shops? I had thought it would start getting restocked by now but most places around here don't know when they'll get more in.

SouthWestmom · 05/03/2020 10:32

@Sakura7 boots online has some now

middleager · 05/03/2020 10:43

Thanks Noef

I managed to add some to my basket as you posted but by the time I came to pay said they'd sold out - yet I was pretty fast as phone autofills too.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 05/03/2020 10:47

Friend of mine went to local store the other day and found they had restocked with 6 boxes of hand gel... she took 4 of the 6 boxes (25 per box, so 100 gels). I couldn't believe they let her take so many and also can't believe her selfishness. But it's ok because she left 2 boxes on the shelf HmmAngry That would have done tens of families

Sakura7 · 05/03/2020 11:18

The greed is unbelievable. What is anyone going to do with 100 gels FFS?

Can't believe there are still shops allowing people to clear them out like that. Crazy not to have restrictions.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/03/2020 11:22

I cant even log into the Boots website

middleager · 05/03/2020 11:36

If there isn't personal integrity then businesses do need to do the right thing and ration it to two per person (as Tesco did).

It's all very well to be told by officials to sanitise (and when travelling, gel is needed) but frustrating when businesses that claim to demonstrate CSR don't help the situation and a black market is created.

Have now set up my Boots account in full to speed process up but even The Flash couldn't process in time.

Songofsixpence · 05/03/2020 11:37

I’ve ordered some for work from a company called loorolls.com

I’ve managed to get a 5 litre bottle and bought some refillable pump bottles

They’ve got 500ml bottles for £3.75 + VAT and 5 litre for £18.50 + VAT. They’re 70% alcohol based

They’re showing as in stock still, but not sure how long delivery will take.

Never used the company before so not sure how legit it is, paid with PayPal so have some protection

Don’t know if that helps anyone still looking
