Dd1 says some pupils at school were in Italy at half term and have been in school all last week. I imagine a lot of people will have had contact with affected people but have not known it. Considering how many kids get sent in to school when they shouldn't normally then I don't have much hope for parents being sensible.

WaterSheep · 02/03/2020 07:37

I think we'll see at least 20 today. I'm also curious about what will come from the COBRA meeting.

FoxRedBitch · 02/03/2020 07:39

I also have a chesty cough and a slight temp. I'm never I'll, especially with a chesty cough.

My chest just feels weird. No known cases anywhere near me.

HairyFloppins · 02/03/2020 07:40

@NebbiaZanzare Thanks, will let DH know.

FoxRedBitch · 02/03/2020 07:41

I'm interested to look at the numbers in hot countries and if it still spreads like wildfires. Fingers crossed it will die out in warmer weather.

WaterSheep · 02/03/2020 07:41

Apparently the COBRA meeting is expected to begin around 10.30am

Doctor's Surgery closed in a village about 5 miles away.
" Due to the irresponsible actions of three patients who did not disclose their true travel history"
As a result both surgeries in that practice have been closed for deep cleaning. They are in two villages about ten miles apart.

woodencoffeetable · 02/03/2020 07:44

our school pta has stocked the school with soap dispensers & paper towels by every sink. plus massive bottles of refill.

BiBiBirdie · 02/03/2020 07:44

@magicrainbowbeans yes I'm finding people off this thread everywhere, here, in my home, online in general are utterly dismissive and in some cases downright rude.
To my mind, those who wish to believe the government saying the NHS will cope and it's business as usual have the luxury of knowing if they get it they will be unwell but not too badly. I think they believe it's 2 weeks off work so excellent for them.
Those of us who know the NHS as we deal with either our own or a relative's illness know it's rubbish.
I've tried so many times to point out flu is not worse. I even had my sis in law to be who is a poxy nurse wheel out that tired and incorrect line.
The fact is, Boris cannot physically get up and say the NHS will struggle. What PM would when his party is responsible for the fact they won't cope. He's self important, he won't do anything that will mean public enquiries or calls for him to be sacked are launched.
I'm so unspeakably angry with the idiocy and gullibility of people I've literally just been blocking people on Facebook and Twitter including people I considered friends as I cannot believe the stupidity.
My DP and I have barely spoken all weekend, even when I showed him our school has had a teacher go into isolation at the Headteachers request as her child goes to the school which as a confirmed case, he was rolling his eyes.
You can feel the "oh look, it's one of those Muppets" attitude whenever we try and say this is incredibly serious and needs to not be downplayed.
I'm just tired and sick of living here actually.

SubordinateThatClause · 02/03/2020 07:46

Threads moving so fast I'm losing track.

Re swimming - a doctor on LBC last week said the water would be fine due to the chlorine, but as yet, they don't know if the warm, humid air would make transmission easier if the pool is crowded.

IceWings · 02/03/2020 07:50

Apparently The person hasn’t travelled or been in contact with anyone who has which is worrying
I’d like to know how these people are getting diagnosed. I have the exact symptoms but the NHS isn’t interested because I haven’t travelled or been in contact with a known case, they won’t test me.

SistemaAddict · 02/03/2020 07:51

Well, we all have a raised temperature Confused Ds has a slight cough, I am coughing more, dd1 is not coughing but temp is 38. I'm tempted to keep them off today and do an online shop to stock up the brexit boxes and make sure we have what we need.

Comenext · 02/03/2020 07:51

Re swimming - conditions in the shared changing room are cramped and sweaty. How often are they cleaned or swabbed down? Also most people have to touch door handles and locker keys etc. Seems like a breeding ground for any virus.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 07:51

100 doctors surgeries and 8 hospitals have been chosen to test everyone who shows up with cold or flu symptoms.

NotJustACigar · 02/03/2020 07:51

I think the Kubler Ross grief cycle applies when trying to come to terms with something big like this. Many people are still in the "denial" phase. Those of us on the "anger" phase (the next step in the cycle) are definitely going to get irritated with their attitude while they'll be annoyed with us for trying to bump them out of comfortable, calming denial. No wonder so many of us are arguing with our DHs!

WaterSheep · 02/03/2020 07:52

IceWings

There are approximately 100 GP surgeries, and several hospitals who are testing all patients who have symptoms. It's a pilot in order to gauge how many cases we're likely to have.

EnidBlyton · 02/03/2020 07:52

My DM of nearly 85 is not letting this stop her, she will not change her lifestyle .
I read about over 60s avoiding crowded places but that doesnt seem to be very well publicized.

however I am more confident that the deaths are lower, looking at the link of the world covid status. however russia had 2, then 5 but on this report back down to 2.

Comenext · 02/03/2020 07:52

100 doctors surgeries and 8 hospitals have been chosen to test everyone who shows up with cold or flu symptoms.
Where exactly?

EnidBlyton · 02/03/2020 07:53

I wonder if not testing will become a policy, to try and stop any panic.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 07:54

YeahLikeNoThough · 02/03/2020 07:54

Oh, damnit!

So: my bloody intern has decided to tell everyone at the office that theit flatmate just came back from Milan last night.

Now contemplating sending everyone including myself home and into self-quarantine. Which seems utterly ludicrous - but I'm the boss of this situation and meant to sell the company line.

Advice, anyone?

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 07:55

I doubt it Enid
The WHO is collecting the numbers.
No other country has stopped counting.

YeahLikeNoThough · 02/03/2020 07:55

ETA: needless to say, "the company line" is unhelpfully vague ...

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 07:56

They haven't given out a list of which surgeries or hospitals have been chosen. To stop people travelling to attend I expect.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/03/2020 07:56

I'm concerned that they aren't testing in hospitals unless you've actually been abroad

This.

A friend of mine came back from Singapore early Jan, I saw her 3 weeks later and she was still coughing, felt dreadful, had spent 2 weeks in bed. Other family members of hers had come down with the same thing.

A day later I was ill. Not sure if she had it, not sure if I had it......I suspect probably not as I wasn't as poorly as she was but then some people only have mild symptoms so who knows.

I carried on going to work, I've ben on public transport, I've been to 3 different hospitals for routine appts.
