@NaturalBornWoman

There is a possibility that the case in Washington State US confirmed January 20th is related to a second confirmed case from Friday in the area. If so the virus could have been circulating in the area between those dates. Something that will become clearer soon perhaps. Source was the New York Times. I read about it in The Hill.

TokyoSushi · 02/03/2020 17:18

Breaking news on Sky just now. Italian death toll risen from 34 yesterday to 52 today.

usernameishistory · 02/03/2020 17:19

BJ is being hopeless.

Keeps saying we are ready, and we are sexond ranked in the readiness stakes, but, our eyes and experience s tell us that that beds are already so close to capacity, and HCPs saying no masks, PPE, IC beds, ECMO, specialist staff.

So its difficult to believe, and one of the major issues that people cannot trust our govt.

That needs to change if this is to be properltmansged or all directives are pointless.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 17:20

#ITALY— Number of dead has risen to 52 from #Coronavirus

HairyFloppins · 02/03/2020 17:20

#Coronavirus report from Italy Flag of Italy
• 2036 cases (+342 or +20% since yesterday)
• 52 deaths (+18 or +53%)
• 149 healed (+66 or +80%)

Not as many cases today though I don't think?

Springinsight · 02/03/2020 17:20

My dd having playe date.

I've asked them to both to wash hand (my dd again as well) friend didn't use soap, ran hand quickly under water. Then ate and with every bite put fingers deep into mouth, covered in saliva, and has no hand-washing skills at all. 8 years old.

I dread to think what's happening at school.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 17:21

2 new cases of #Coronavirus in #Bahrain. Total at 49

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 17:22

URGENT: #ITALY #CORONAVIRUS CASES HAVE PASSED 2.000

DonkeyKong2019 · 02/03/2020 17:23

@HairyFloppins they reduced their testing criteria though so the lower number would tie in with that change

itwaseverthus · 02/03/2020 17:24

So I posted earlier that I was worried as my friend returned from Bali pretty ill and I was with her two days later on 6th Feb. Have been loaded with cold, intermittent temperatures, no cough. Stayed home for 15 days but now really need to get to Waitrose. Rang the GP for advice, he asked if friend had been tested for COVID19, I told him her GP only did a stool test for parasites (she had d&v as well as cough/streaming cold) which was negative. He said I should be fine to go out and if I feel unwell (well, worse than I do now) to come and see him! I said eh, you mean ring you or 111? Oh yes, of course. Call first.

Am not inspired.

IMO BJ is prioritising other things above the coronavirus response. He's not got a science background and IMO he doesn't fully perceive the risks and the ways that a novel virus is potentially particularly dangerous. He's relying on what he is told, and if he likes what he is told I don't think he is thinking critically about it.

2 of the UK cases caught the virus in Northern Italy- www.theguardian.com/world/live/2020/mar/02/coronavirus-live-updates-china-latest-news-us-australia-deaths-markets-italy-iran-update-cases

However one attends a school in Torbay- I would hope we will see this particular school closed for 2 weeks now.

4 new cases today I think is a promising sign (sorry if this has already been discussed!)- I was expecting over 10 again after yesterday.

HairyFloppins · 02/03/2020 17:25

That’s true donkeykong!

usernameishistory · 02/03/2020 17:26

Jonathon Ball, virologist confirmed warmth does reduce virulence/life of covid19

So a warm spell will reduce its potential impact.

High humidity (like swimming pools/tropics) increase its quick spread.

WhoWants2Know · 02/03/2020 17:27

Does anyone remember the number of people tested for Coronavirus in the uk as of yesterday?

I wondered if maybe there was a reduced number of tests processed on Sunday that corresponds to the lower than expected number of positive results.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 17:27

Senegal Health minister said patient with confirmed coronavirus arrived 26Feb from France. Patient has been living in country for past 2years.

FelicityFebruary · 02/03/2020 17:29

If this is to become endemic we really have to invest in hand washing training for parents of young kids.

Springinsight · 02/03/2020 17:29

I'm no fan of bojo either but I'm fucking glad we don't have the student corybn presiding over this and abbot etc.

I'd be shit scared if those utter incompetents were at the helm. The comments trying to make this political are really annoying me.

The pandemic blue print is standard. It's not been dreamt up by Boris. It's a standard rolling thing.

I'm not happy about allowing students, teachers and family's back into the the community from holidays. I'm not happy that many schools don't seem to to have soap. Are not teaching hand-washing or body space....

I'm sure there is more I'm not happy with. But I'm not so blinkered that I think corybn would do better job.

I'll reserve my judgement in the coming weeks...

DonkeyKong2019 · 02/03/2020 17:30

@usernameishistory our local weather forecast if forecasting a colder than average march. Not helpful!

OneOfTheGrundys · 02/03/2020 17:33

Hi ofwarren no school not closed yet.
Considering keeping DS off until DH enters hospital for transplant though. We can’t risk this transplant. We’ve been waiting for nearly a year for it to come through.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 17:34

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus has reached 90,000. The number of cases outside China has surpassed 10,000.

usernameishistory · 02/03/2020 17:34

Oh. As we've had such a warm winter climate so far, it must be helping keep the viral spread under better control. The cold will also increase the flu viral life span.

Moomin8 · 02/03/2020 17:36

It was so bloody obvious to me that loads of people would have gone skiing to Italy in half term. It would have been best for them to quarantine then, not go back to school for a week ffs.

The horse has bolted...

GorkyMcPorky · 02/03/2020 17:37

I've had to request tissues and sanitiser for my classroom today. First lesson a kid sneezed repeatedly into her hand. Loads wanted tissues but didn't have them, so used mine. I'm not buying a box per day out of my own pocket.

IrmaFayLear · 02/03/2020 17:37

At the moment I'm loathe to blame anyone: because no one knows what path the virus will take. No one knows how long it's been in Europe and how many people have had mild cases, but passed it to hundreds if not thousands of people.

I know we are a global society, but I can't help thinking about how the Spanish largely wiped out the indigenous population of South America with the common cold, simply because the people there hadn't encountered it. Likewise Eskimos. I'm sure there are many viruses all over the world that affected their particular spots, and now they are reaching populations who have no history of the disease and therefore no immunity.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 17:37

From today's @WHO #Covid19 briefing: Someone from WHO's Iran country office has contracted the virus.
