Sorry bold fail

Hugglespuffed · 02/03/2020 16:51

@BrokenBrit wow I remember you from one of the earlier threads. I simply cannot believe that they still haven't tested him. Is he doing ok? I really hope he improves soon.. I wish there was some way he demands a test. Why the hell won't they?! Ridiculous.

Latvia and Senegal report first cases of coronavirus t.co/eUoE2b20hL

hoolydooly · 02/03/2020 16:52

@alloutoffucks
Yes, I've seen that website. No info as far as I can tell on the actual number of deaths in that age group (if any). Given that very few children are infected, a 0.2% death rate may just be theoretical or just mean there have been one or two.

FourTeaFallOut · 02/03/2020 16:54

If it were widespread in the community you would see an increase in the number of people who required hospitalisation and oxygen, that wouldn't go unnoticed, especially right now.

apricotnuts · 02/03/2020 16:55

To be fair, I can pay for a test and have insurance. But at this point why bother? If I get sick, I’ll be at home in bed, I don’t have a connection to anyone that has travelled, and if I go to a doctor or hospital they can decide if they want to test for it (but really I would hope they’d be focused on treatment than who I’ve been in contact with). I really won’t care at that point and it will be community case so nobody else will either.

@saltinesandcoffeecups, do authorities not want to register all that possibly have the virus as much as possible for their data? Apologies if I have misunderstood.

User1775564212 · 02/03/2020 16:55

@BrokenBrit I’d go to the press in your situation.

pussycatinboots · 02/03/2020 16:56

Thetiger Thanks.

Grundys I'd keep DS off school and face the consequences further down the line in your position. (DH has heart issues so I understand) Flowers

alloutoffucks · 02/03/2020 16:58

@hoolydooly Of course it is not a theoretical mortality rate. It is quite clear no children aged 9 and under have died. The mortality rate in 10-19 year olds has been low, but yes some have died.
And nobody including WHO has said very few children are infected. They have said when children get the virus it tends to be mild cold like symptoms.

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 16:59

@BrokenBrit I’d be calling them every day. You’ll get a different person each time and someone will refer him. He’s been to northern Italy and he has clear symptoms that’s basically all they need to test him. Just persist and insist

LarkDescending · 02/03/2020 17:00

Italy's daily press briefing is due to start now (5pm GMT).

*@YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus

I was one of the initial enquirers about corticosteroids-asthma-covid19. Really appreciate you posting that link and update, thank you.

I am so sorry for those posting on here (and those who don't) that are truly suffering with major anxiety from info, or lack of.

The only thing anyone can do is keep themselves informed (sad thats not available in one central govt led hub, making threads like this essential).

Its now flagged as 'high' risk as opposed to moderate accorsing to EU

usernameishistory · 02/03/2020 17:06

Its dispicable that the EU is making health risk sharing a political issue.

Its nasty controlling behaviour, and not in the public's best interest.

Babyfairy0923 · 02/03/2020 17:08

Is anyone considering keeping their children home from school yet? My children don’t have any health conditions but if they bring it home my husband has a heart condition.

Twitney · 02/03/2020 17:09

babyfairy I have considered this as I have asthma and my daughter has had cancer as a baby but I can't see how it will eliminate risk and therefore I don't want to disrupt them unless the school makes the decision to close.

ExhaustedGrinch · 02/03/2020 17:12

Is anyone considering keeping their children home from school yet?

I want to but I don't know what will happen if I do. I just wish they would allow those who can keep kids off to do so if they want. Then again we don't know how long this is going to go on for and how long we would need to keep them off for to actually avoid contracting it altogether.

usernameishistory · 02/03/2020 17:12

Remove jewellery
Wash hands thoroughly

So encouraging to hear from teachers on here adopting good hygiene practice with ther students.

Alcohol wipes need using to wipe desks before and after use, each new class.

Im not sure if anyone has mentioned alcohol wipes.

Use alcohol first, then moisturise after. Do not mix the alcohol which will dilute it.

It seems the advice is to avoid high traffic areas, keep your own hygiene standards high and prepare for if you are ill by getting basic supplies in.

Grim and greedy bastards bulk buying sanitiser to sell on ebay, and stupid suppliers letting those trying to bulk buy do it.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/03/2020 17:12

Considering this is purported to have an high infection rate, it’s just making me wonder whether there’s a reason it hasn’t spread here the way it did in China.

I did read (another) lancet article which hypothesised that perhaps Asian people might be more likely to catch it.....something to do with amount of Ace receptors in the lungs? Not saying it’s at all true.

kirinm · 02/03/2020 17:13

@username it was No. 10 who told Hancock not to attend a meeting with the EU because it would breach their (Tories) red lines.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/03/2020 17:14

And I’d also suspect that China has a more densely packed living conditions which will speed up spread of the virus.

Jenasaurus · 02/03/2020 17:14

A colleague was off work last week and some of the previous week with her DS who had picked up a bug at nursery, a cough and high temperature, she showed me a photo of him looking very unwell, she said her GP prescribed antibiotics, and they had no effect, he is now recovering but she has caught the cough and is feeling unwell too. Not been abroad herself but her parents have been to India and been around her and her DS, (although India has very low number of cases) I am starting to wonder if this is around more than we realise as she said other families had been abroad that had children at the same nursery.

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 17:14

The other things I would say @brokenbrit is that they are perhaps testing according to severity. DS's friend has been self isolating due to having symptoms for a week now. His parents first contacted 111 this time last week. He was tested today.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 17:15

I have took mine out babyfairy
One is 4 and one is 5;

Jenasaurus · 02/03/2020 17:15

It is off course cold season and lots of nursey aged children pick up everything so I am trying to maintain calm about this.
