Everyone around me just laughs and jokes about it.
I’m absolutely paranoid with fear as I got underlying serious condition like copd with bronchilitis/ widening my bronchis.
I’m so scared..

People do tend to laugh at things they're scared of, though. If they really weren't bothered, they probably wouldn't be talking about it so much.

HHH3 · 02/03/2020 14:20

@Redpriestandmozart I’m on it and doing really well. Such a shame it didn’t work out for you.

I’ve actually just seen the MS nurse and asked her about corona virus. She said that we’re more vulnerable to getting it on Fingolimod (as we are with any viruses). But if I was to get it then they’d take me off the meds to give my body a chance to fight it.

Dusty01 · 02/03/2020 14:20

Really odd that no new cases (and very few overall) are in London.

How can that be?

FourTeaFallOut · 02/03/2020 14:21

It's brilliant that all four cases were imported, perhaps we'll get some crucial weeks before any significant community spread?

GPwife2411 · 02/03/2020 14:22

@tud41 - I'm commenting because I'm trained in epidemiology but I am very hopeful that you're right and I'm wrong. It's not unusual for there to be delays in test results over the weekend is what I mean, I know the labs!

RhubarbTea · 02/03/2020 14:22

Crap I just spent the weekend in Devon not far from the newest case and took the train there and back. Hopefully the risk is minimal.

I just got back from doing another shop in my big Tesco. No hand gel to be seen for love nor money, loo rolls and baked beans significantly depleted but most other things in stock although the shelves were looking a bit bare.

What was most noticeable was how quiet it was in there. More so than usual.

MissPoldark · 02/03/2020 14:22

I’m hoping that there is as it would explain the high proportion in ICU. I’d say there must be at least another 1000 unreported.

Mittens030869 · 02/03/2020 14:23

@Dusty01 I think it must be because they're only testing people who have been travelling overseas in infected areas or been in direct contact with someone who has tested positive. They are going to have to start testing more widely than that.

MissPoldark · 02/03/2020 14:24

Sorry that was in reply to @Jrobhatch29

Newleafinspring · 02/03/2020 14:24

13525 tests have been done, it sounds good with 40 cases only.

peridito · 02/03/2020 14:24

@RhubarbTea whereabouts in Devon is the Covid19 case please ?

AlunWynsKnee · 02/03/2020 14:24

@EveLevine my older one has ASD too but could feed them toast if they were both OK.
I have MS so I don't know if I am more at risk than the average person.

MissPoldark · 02/03/2020 14:25

@Mittens030869
They are carrying out wider “Random” testing at quite a number of GP surgeries & hospitals.

We're tackling coronavirus by planning for the worst and working for the best. My piece here: t.co/lL4lP75Cjg

RhubarbTea · 02/03/2020 14:26

@peridito I am not 100% certain this is correct but I think it is in Brixham as they closed a school this morning due to a suspected case there. News link here.

Delatron · 02/03/2020 14:27

Agree about Italy @Jrobhatch29. it must have circulating for weeks and weeks without them knowing and many cases missed. Most of our case are now from Italy?

Interesting 5Live program this morning. The ‘expert’ on there (I didn’t hear her credentials as missed the beginning) Suggested using the First Defence sprays pre-emptively. She says she does it when going on the tube/flights. Obviously we have no proof it works agains this virus but the way it works is that it stops a virus taking hold in the nasal passage. Worth a try anyway!

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 02/03/2020 14:28

Every affected country has exponentially more cases day on day but we report 2/3 less than yesterday. On the surface that’s reassuring, but personally think its early to count our chickens.

KenAdams · 02/03/2020 14:29

I thought they hadn't done the update yet as 40 cases seems very low compared to what I was expecting.

WingingItSince1973 · 02/03/2020 14:30

@RhubardTea hope you will be ok. We were in Birmingham on saturday and it was heaving! My eldest is coming back from Bristol today. Cant help but be concerned! She will probably sleep for a week anyway which is usual ha ha. Our Tesco was ok. No hand sanitizer there or B&M but plenty of other antibacterial products. Xx

peridito · 02/03/2020 14:32

Thanks Rhubarb 5 schools closed so it's hard to know .Frustrating ! .

Newleafinspring · 02/03/2020 14:33

I did expect something come out after today's Cobra meeting, so it's a bit disappointment with no details out. I guess they are only think about the big plan?

But, there should be more things to be done to stop the virus spreading. For example, re washing hand, can every school be required to put on the hand gel thing, and promoting hand washing? I don't think most teenagers are good at washing hand in the school.

NettleTea · 02/03/2020 14:33

4 new cases seems very low. I think that tomorrowmay level that out a bit.

ifonly4 · 02/03/2020 14:34

Dannn I work in a school and nothing has been said about the coronavirus, no requirements about hygiene, no guidance on how it's dealt with regarding the pupils, nothing. I'm not impressed.

I have a second shop, always been hand sanitizer and antibac soap about, but there's more out at the moment. A member of staff asked for some in the warehouse and was given it. Premises always generally cleaned but a couple of members of staff where cleaning with disinfectant yesterday with gloves on - there's no way they could get around the whole place but at least they're trying.

RhodaCamel · 02/03/2020 14:37

Did anyone see This Morning today? There was a British man on there who is living in Wuhan. He says he was one of the first people to get ill with coronavirus. He says he got it in November and didn’t know it’s was the virus until officials told him in January. The worrying thing is that he claims it just started off with simple cold like symptoms, then developed over days into what he thought was the flu then he got pneumonia. Up until now I have been led to believe that the symptoms are nothing like a cold and start with a hug temperature and a dry cough.

BiBiBirdie · 02/03/2020 14:37

May be controversial here but now that we've all been told not to go to the GP of we suspect CV, and clearly the moron in Harpenden ignored that, I think it's time to fine people for ignoring directives.
It's not hard! Don't go to the GP, don't go to A&E, ring 111 and await instructions.
How many people has this one exposed? I've sat in a GP waiting room for anywhere from 20-40 minutes before. Then there are the people he spoke to on reception.
