@AlunWynsKnee Very few people would need to put a DC into care. It would be unusual for both parents to be hospitalised and no other family able to look after the DC.
Don't worry, your DC will be looked after.

Ijustneed · 02/03/2020 13:16

We've been moved to the coronavirus topic.

BramblyHedge · 02/03/2020 13:18

I have hypertension (so apparently higher risk) but am relatively young (40 but have had it all my life). I'm not sure how worried I should be as it could that the combination of high blood pressure and age which is higher risk. I know nobody can answer and that I can't do much but don't have anyone to talk to without seeming paranoid! I also see some people referring to autoimmune conditions being higher risk but the WHO isn't mentioning that...so not sure if that is true (I so have an autoimmune condition). Anyone else in similar position?

ajandjjmum · 02/03/2020 13:24

I suppose it partly comes down to whether your hypertension is controlled Brambly?

BloomedAgain · 02/03/2020 13:27

The risk with autoimmune diseases seems to be if you're on immune suppressant drugs eg high dose steroids, as I am, to knock out your immune system.

Queenunikitty · 02/03/2020 13:27

Anyone know any more about the Essex case pls? Haven’t RTFT as it’s so fast moving!

BiBiBirdie · 02/03/2020 13:29

The Singapore info is far, far better and if we adopted that surely would help Scientists and help people know more and panic less.

LockThatFridge · 02/03/2020 13:29

@BramblyHedge I’m the same age as you and I have an autoimmune thyroid condition that is in no way under control so I’m worried. I’m on medication and I’m not really sure how it works. I know I was told to stop taking it if I develop a bad sore throat or a fever so it might be that it lowers my immune system. I also can’t find any information. There was a thread on here somewhere but no one knew either. I’m going to email my consultant so will let you know if they know anything (don’t hold your breath!).

Boris and co never for the life of them imagined they were going to have to do any kind of crisis governing. They thought it was going to be a Brexit Jolly with their mates making a killing on the profits. Now the economy is dropping like a stone, but not the kind of stone they have envisioned, and we need people who can actually take control with a clear head, they are going to be shown up for the actual incompetatnt buffons they are

NettleTea · 02/03/2020 13:35

Not that I think Labour, in their current state, could do any better I must add

WingingItSince1973 · 02/03/2020 13:37

Just came back from a Tesco food shop. Shelves all full. The only thing I couldn't find was hand gel! Lots of antibac packets of hand wipes. On offer for 2 packs of 40 wipes for £2. Thought that would be handy to wipe down surfaces when put and about. Made me realise how much I touch things! Trolley, my phone, products on shelves then my car etc etc. Could start to get paranoid. B&M didnt have hand gel either but plenty of other cleaning products. X

persin · 02/03/2020 13:38

labour would be recruiting NHS and giving guidance to those with underlying conditions

Pootle40 · 02/03/2020 13:39

Just a thought, was reading a blog of someone in Wuhan who is infected. Repeated reference to just taking traditional herbal Chinese medicine - does this also skew the death figures if not treated correctly?

AlunWynsKnee · 02/03/2020 13:39

alloutoffucks sorry I probably sounded more grumpy in my reply than I should have Blush I'm catastrophising and the dc being left alone is one of my triggers. It's complicated!

NatyoCheese · 02/03/2020 13:39

Jacob Rees Mogg saying to ‘wash your hands to the national anthem’ makes me want to heave Envy

All expecting more cases. ITV studios has a confirmed case too but all just ‘business as usual’ stock markets are taking an absolute battering.

FlyingNorth · 02/03/2020 13:42

Agree that's really insulting. He's just being provocative and in the process minimising the seriousness of the situation.

MarshaBradyo · 02/03/2020 13:43

It’s all very well to push out one liners to win but actually govern right now and make decisions - I wouldn’t pick Boris in a line up, too flustered.

Meanwhile Labour are taking ages to appoint Keir - better do anyway.

Fourducksate · 02/03/2020 13:43

Crufts- if it goes ahead is not a good idea. I go every year, it is hot, no air and crowds of people shuffling along in close proximity. Goods are being picked up and put down, the shuttle buses are rammed. A lot of older people show their dogs as a retirement hobby too, so they would be at risk.

In Uni today, the 2nd year nursing students who all have been in local hospitals in placements are saying ‘it’s only like a bad cold’ they obviously have never had any type of flu.

What was also concerning was I could over hear conversations about how the aprons are not always available and gloves are in short supply, one senior nurse apparently told a student, not to worry, make sure you wash your hands! The student said she felt uncomfortable with this - not surprisingly as they are taught their skills so well in the classroom.

BramblyHedge · 02/03/2020 13:43

@LockThatFridge thanks. Mine is hashimotos.

I am on BP medication but it is usually about 140/90 which is still quite high. Doc has never seemed that concerned about it.

A helpline put out 15 minutes before the results come in....

EveLevine · 02/03/2020 13:47

@AlunWynsKnee I've had similar worries - my 9 year old has ASD so would not cope at all being away from us, and no family under 70 who could help.

So, I've done what I can to prepare sensibly - its unlikely DH and I would be that ill both at the same time, but in the worst case if we were and unable to get out of bed, then I've prepared stuff for DC that they can cope with.

I've filled a low kitchen cupboard that they can reach with fruit shoots, cartons of juice and UHT milkshakes. Plus cereal bars, crisps, crackers etc. The fruit bowl is within DCs reach and always full. The fridge has cheese dunkers, yogurts, packets of ham and billy bear. All stuff that we use normally anyway, just a bit extra. Its not ideal, but in a worst case scenario, a couple of days of eating cold food won't harm dc.

Choux · 02/03/2020 13:49

A helpline put out 15 minutes before the results come in....

Does that mean we are about to see a spike in cases related to schools?

Choux · 02/03/2020 13:50

@EveLevine great prepping! Hope you don't need it.
