It is not a disaster.
Normally shops ration items in short supply.

Keynote1 · 02/03/2020 10:47

@oakmaiden, pretty awful. Finding it hard to take my mind off of it. Convinced myself I will get it from friend I saw who came back from holiday with no restrictions on Gov or NHS site, nobody else we were eith is worried at all but I am a total wreck. Thought about calling dr to see if they can give me something but this is going to go on for a long time. Just cant seem to stop looking up and no positives to read, very shaky and tired . Thank you for asking

peridito · 02/03/2020 10:49

Does anyone know whereabouts in Bristol the dx covid19 person worked ?

Newjez · 02/03/2020 10:51

Local gp surgery has run out of hand sanitizer. Not great.

orangepepper · 02/03/2020 10:52

Has anyone made their own sanitiser? Does anyone have any recipes? I found one with witch hazel not sure how much to put in to make sure it is as effective as shop bought ones.

halcyondays · 02/03/2020 10:53

I don’t think I have ever seen hand sanitizer at my local gp surgery.

lemonjumper · 02/03/2020 10:54

Found on Reddit: Map of UK cases so far

EnidBlyton · 02/03/2020 10:54

local sheltered housing run out of hand sanitizer too

Jrobhatch29 · 02/03/2020 10:55

@Keynote1 im exactly the same. I rang my gp this morning but as im pregnant they cant give me anything. I cant believe its happening to be honest x

halcyondays · 02/03/2020 10:55

I do wish they wouldn’t use those touch screens for check in at the doctors.

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 10:56

Hone made hand sanitiser here —-

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 10:56

The GP touch screens are ridiculous. Mine has hand sanitiser next to it but even so.

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 10:57

Apologies again for typos . I have fat fingers and my phone is obsessed with autocorrecting . Must learn to preview first !

Keynote1 · 02/03/2020 10:58

I know I am being silly, I have had a cold for a week which I know is just a cold and had it before I saw friends just blowing my nose and it bled a bit, normal occurrence for me but total panic followed, hubby getting totally stressed with me.

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 10:59

I refuse to use those GP touch screens they make me shudder

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 10:59

You need to be careful with that hand sanitiser recipe though since the other ingredients will be diluting the surgical spirit alcohol content. Ive just checked my surgical spirit and the content is only 70% alcohol to start with.

Its better than nothing but is not going to kill viruses if you get below 60% alcohol (which means an awful lot more surgical spirit and using much less of the other ingredients).

Needtobepositive · 02/03/2020 11:04

Lots to keep up with in these threads! So diabetes wise the best thing to do is try to keep bloods in check? This will be hard for us as we are coming out of the honeymoon period. She absolutely hates correction injections too so I’m not sure how I will manage that. Such a nightmare. Thanks for the help @Llamallamadingdong and @AbsentmindedWoman and any others that have mentioned diabetes.

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 11:04

The hand sanitisers that you can pick up for about 80p in Aldi are being sold on eBay for £8.99 🙄 I suspect a lot of the shelf clearance is due to unscrupulous types buying up to slam on eBay and make a fast profit 😡

WingingItSince1973 · 02/03/2020 11:07

@spacecadetagain that's disgusting! I get really disappointed in people when they do things like this! People cant afford those prices it makes me sick they would exploit this situation!!! Going to b&m soon to see what they have then a big tesco shop. I do have hand sanitizer at home anyway so no big panic xxx

EnidBlyton · 02/03/2020 11:09

Why has Italy and Iran been so badly affected?

halcyondays · 02/03/2020 11:12

Shops need to only let customers buy a small number of hand sanitizers to stop this, that’s awful of people selling on eBay at hugely inflated prices.

Oakmaiden · 02/03/2020 11:12

Why has Italy and Iran been so badly affected?

It could just be that they have started a little sooner than other countries, as far as community transmission goes, and other countries will follow similar trajectories.

Or they are unlucky.

Who knows. Clearly there has been community transmission going on that they have missed, but at this stage it would be guessing to say why it was missed.

magicrainbowbeans · 02/03/2020 11:13

Space I saw the same on amazon 50ml hand sanitiser going for £10-20

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 02/03/2020 11:13

I m slightly worried for my nearly 19 year old son, he has some lung issues, ABPA and is very underweight. He has to go on public transport including the tube every day as he works for PHE in London, he is very careful about handwashing and carries hand gel.

SisterAgatha · 02/03/2020 11:13

Enid, it will be cultural practises there that differ, the landscape, population etc. I said on one of the other threads that skiing has probably played a part, people rent equipment like gloves, helmets, boots etc. That won’t have helped.
