goodness me!

MissPoldark · 29/02/2020 07:46

I was just thinking... the other day we linked to an Evening Standard article in which Rory Stewart said that the Uber lady was on a ventilator.
If that’s true, why hasn’t that been reported as a serious case? (No U.K. serious cases on worldometer).

Emlou07 · 29/02/2020 07:49

So if we believe we aren't being told the true figures or as some believe it's been here a lot longer than we think, how are we telling the difference between corona and a normal bug/virus in its early stages?

I've woken up with a sore throat. Do I panic? I'm in the south east. Not too far from the 'super spreader

Half serious, half not.

Newtonpass · 29/02/2020 07:53

EmmaBridgewater20 I posted about our awful virus that seemed to confuse the doctors at a&e earlier on. We had the dry cough, high fevers, not getting out of bed thing.

Your post just reminded me, ds and I also had yellow crusty eyes, but with no pus or redness.

keepmoving · 29/02/2020 07:53

I wonder if the US will have to make testing and treatment for covid 19 free? Surely they can't have sick people wandering the streets spreading the virus far and wide? The social costs will be even higher than the medical costs? Or am I just dreaming...

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 07:55

America will have to make testing free, surely?
What happened there during swine flu?

janemaster · 29/02/2020 07:58

America is going to have a lot on infections. If you make people pay for testing and treatment, a lot of people will spread it.

DonkeyKong2019 · 29/02/2020 08:00

USA won't make them free. Not with conspiracy theorist trump in charge. He will just keep denying it despite it clearly being well established there

HasaDigaEebowai · 29/02/2020 08:01

Odd question, but if it's not affecting young/women, does that include trans women that are women?

Absolutely the wrong thread for this. Hmm But obviously biology trumps feels.

Sassenach85 · 29/02/2020 08:02

They could make testing free but who is going to willingly be tested if the actual treatment isn’t free?

meredithgrey1 · 29/02/2020 08:02

America is going to have a lot on infections.

No no, it's all fine. Donald trump called all the scaremongering a "hoax" by his political opponents who are trying to make him look bad. After all (he says), they only have 15 cases in such a big country, and that's because they acted so fast and are so great, nothing at all do to with the lack of tests, no way.

So we can all stop worrying.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/02/2020 08:03

I have wondered with the men vs women stats is it down to actual biological differences or in China is it cultural differences meaning more likely to be exposed?

Men more likely to work, mix in large crowds, more likely to smoke and therefore be more severely affected?

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 08:03

South Korea reports 219 new cases of coronavirus, raising total to 3,150 cases and 17 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 08:05

Together with the morning update, South Korea has reported 813 new cases in 1 day

WaterSheep · 29/02/2020 08:06

They could make testing free but who is going to willingly be tested if the actual treatment isn’t free?

Exactly.

HasaDigaEebowai · 29/02/2020 08:08

But most americans will have insurance. Its one of their essential living costs.

Lovetocycle · 29/02/2020 08:08

Interesting that symptons don't include a runny nose, sneezing etc. Isn't that suet of stuff the immune system kicking in to get rid of viruses/bugs

DressingGownofDoom · 29/02/2020 08:09

Spotted on Facebook. Yeah I'm not sure that's how it works Hmm

Many Americans don’t have healthcare -

Almost 1 in 5 Americans Going Without Health Care. MONDAY, Dec. 3 (HealthDay News) -- Almost 20 percent of Americans, or more than 40 million adults, can't afford or access needed health care, according to a new U.S. government report released Monday.23 Mar 2019

EgonSpengler2020 · 29/02/2020 08:17

St John Ambulance, Red Cross and Army to help in hospitals

It's a nice soundbite but the red cross and st Johns already have NHS contracts picking up the slack for ambulance services, particularly doing discharges when the hospital is bed blocked and movement is required. Also a large proportion of army medical are Territorial/army reserve and already working in the NHS. So not sure how much of an impact this will have. However the army Field hospitals will be able to mobilise to worst effected area, so that's positive.

Most Americans who have health insurance have co pays. So any visit or treatment, part is covered by insurance, part you have to pay for. I have American friends who at times have delayed Dr visits because of the cost of co pay. It adds up.

NemophilistRebel · 29/02/2020 08:21

I’m starting to feel really cross and hurt with a colleague
She’s our HR manager and keeps telling anyone who asks that there nothing to worry about as it’s no worse than the flu and spreading misinformation on Facebook about it being more likely to win the lottery than to catch it right now.

She told me I was silly for worrying when I’m pregnant, have an asthmatic husband and a young toddler who suffers with croup on and off.

I cancelled my recent flight due to worrying about it and she just ridicules me to everyone in the office.

EmmaBridgewater20 · 29/02/2020 08:21

@Newtonpass it makes you wonder doesn’t it - the symptoms are identical for me, even down to it starting feeling feverish. From what I can see, how do we know it’s not. It felt so much more than just a normal winter infection and I felt it was weird for there to be no snots. The eye thing felt very specific, I’d be interested to know if people has had that.

If it wasn’t I’m double worried as my DC, Dad and me are still coughing, my chest still feels awful, what would happen if we got it on top of this 😑.
