Ireland - wearing black armbands for a game near October 7th?

So the Irish football team thought it would be some sort of protest to wear black armbands for their recent mat h against Israel and guess what strangely the Israeli team wore black armbands for the victims of the worst terrorist atrocity in their country. So the Irish were left wearing black armbands for victims of the Israeli Gaza conflict but I guess not the victims of October 7th? No wonder the Israeli players were pissed. Ireland then dress and threw the dummy out the pram by saying they shouldn't be playing Israel again......pretty pathetic.

You can also see how for countries like Ireland October 7th is being erased from history as when they went for their black armband protest they probably very stupidly forgot about the proximity of a day of Israeli national mourning.

Ireland has a long, proud history of unadulterated hypocrisy but luckily they don't tend to have the clout to shake it all about. I wouldn't worry about it

It was an act of retaliation. Also most of Ireland is behind the soccer team, the ones agreeing with you are definitely not the norm. Go to any comment section and see for yourself.

What did the Bibas children do that they needed retaliation against? What did Shani Louk do that she deserved to be violently raped?

Although I don't know why I'm bothering. Like the rest of the Hamas supporters who show up here you'll probably disappear anf show up under a different username. @mnhq don't care.

Well Irish posters disagree with you. Particularly your now deleted comment about the atrocity on Oct 7th.
Many Irish people all over sm are appalled at what you applaud. So if I were you I'd say 'a few of us' not 'most' going forward.

@Eire12 There can be no justification for Oct 7th, none.
Irish people (on the whole) don’t agree with what happened in Gaza before or afterwards, for humanitarian reasons.

Believe me, you won't find many Israeli supporters in Ireland. In NI yes, a chunk because the majority of Unionists support them. Nationalists in NI generally support Palestine because of the support in ROI. Deny that all you want, it's a fact. Ireland has officially recognized Palestine as a state. Why would it do that without the support of a majority? I suppose this is hugely shocking and bewildering to you too.

More misunderstanding and misinformation 😕
England also did the nazi salute at a match…not sure why you left that out? Lots of countries did at the time (pre WW2).

Criticism of Israeli government policy is not the same as anti-semitism.

The UK has also recognised Palestine as a state. Doesn't mean it's okay to support the rape kidnap and murder of a proscribed terrorist organisation.

Who is? Seriously. We just want justice for Palestinian people. We want Israel to stop the genocide. I don't think that is too much to ask.

Then support Israel in getting rid of Hamas. Because no one else is doing so. And the Palestinians life's won't improve till they're gone. Also, there isn't a genocide happening. People who are attempting a genocide don't provide aid and vaccinations to the people they're apparently ' genociding". A genocidal people attempted to genocide the Jews on October 7th...now the same people who are losing the war they started are putting out propaganda that there is a " genocide' happening to them. Well news flash. There is not. The population is actually increasing. Half the people killed were Hamas terrorists. Israel has taken great care to minimise civilian casualties to the detriment of the IDF.

A quick Google will tell you all you need to know about where Ireland's support lies.

So Israel get to have an army with the best arms and Palestine gets nothing? How does that work..

DebbieSavage · 05/10/2026 17:21

I have always found the Irish to be a supremely principled people. They have a stance and they don't let outside pressure dictate how they should feel. I wish I was Irish and not British.

Chicaontour · 05/10/2026 17:22

Sorry why do you presume that it doesnt inclyde the victims of the 7th of October? Rgey actually say ita to sgow soludarity of the victims of the Conflict. I disagree with this. Hamas attrocity was diabolicallt attricioys. Israels response is genocidal .

Did you have some sort of panic attack when you had to mention the atrocity that Hamas committed on October 7th? Or did you type that while looking away from the screen because you couldn't bear to think that the innocent and noble Palestinians would ever do anything horrible?

Ireland was colonised, a 1/4 of the Irish population was killed by a forced famine, the Auxillaries left the north of Ireland and went straight to Palestine. 6 counties are still occupied. Ireland was one of the first countries to organise against Apartheid South Africa in the 1980s. Calling Israel out for its genocidal response to the horrific massacre of 07.10 isnt anti semetic its humanitarian.

Yikes my typing was attrocious.

Off course i dont have any problem calling out horrendous attacks, the people kidnappef and called on 07.10 were real people ( not just statistics) with hopes and dreams. Just like the Palestinian people who have been systematically genocided.

I have no problem calling out wrong .

Well I think that's why Hamas must be totally erased. " palestine" isn't a country. If it wants to be they are going to have to not have a terrorist government.

Do any of the Irish posters think of Emily Hand? What she endured?

OpenScroller · 05/10/2026 18:29

Lets face it, who would have thought that a country of Catholics (even if not practicing today, it's ingrained through generations) would be full of Jew haters?

Let's call a spade, a spade.

I have found it very interesting that a lot of the openly vocal antisemitic (parading as 'antizionist') celebrities in the US have Irish or Catholic backgrounds such as Mark Ruffalo, Susan Sarandon, Javier Bardem, Macklemore, John Cusack, Billie Eilish.

It's sick brainwashing that's been around for centuries.

ColadhSamh · 05/10/2026 18:44

The Irish team behaved with great restraint playing against Israel. There is hardly a family in Ireland who weren't oppressed by a coloniser so many Irish can identify strongly with the plight of the Palestinian people. There is great support for Palestinians throughout Ireland.

The behaviour of the Israeli squad and press was appalling throughout. At the first press conference both Israeli journalists were outrageous. Not one question about football or the game itself. At the second press conference their behaviour was heading in the same direction but they were cut short and the Irish representatives, quite rightly, walked out,.
During the first match Adam Idah was abused by the small Israeli contingent present who directed monkey chants towards him. In addition those same supporters were shouting IDF at various points throughout the game. At half time during the second match one of the Irish backroom staff was spat at by an Israeli player. This incident was confirmed by Serb security staff. There were various other incidents which hopefully will be dealt with in time.

The comparison with cricket is laughable. Most people in Ireland know SFA about cricket and certainly most wouldn't know or care about any Ireland cricket team. They certainly wouldn't know when or who they were playing. It is not England.
Same goes for basketball. It is a very niche sport but if people want to protest, good on them.
Which bring me to UEFA = Union of European Football Associations
Where in Europe is Israel????
Time this nonsense was dealt with. Israel is NOT in Europe.
