Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

Although Keir Starmer is trying to play the absence of UK participation in the Iran conflict as some sort of principled stand. The reality is that after decades of defence cuts since the end of the Cold War bu both the Conservatives and Labour, the UK military has virtually nothing to contribute to any military operation anyway.

I think he is one of the better Labour Ministers but this interview today with the Defence Secretary John Healey is cringe worthy - I truly felt embarrassed for him:

Even if the UK would have had the resources, we shouldn't have joined this war.

But that's a ridiculous logic- it's like me saying that I'm going to boycott the next Olympics in LA because I dislike Trump.

Great but I was never going to going to be selected for Team GB anyway because I don't have the abilities.

Or that land locked Luxembourg is going to refuse to send naval ships to help in the Straights of Hormuz, when they don't have any naval ships to send anyway.

I haven’t listened so far but have seen a few posts saying the same. Reading more about the lack of anti missile capability we need to sort that out pdq.

Where’s the laughing emoji when you want it … Luxembourg refusing to send naval ships 😆

Israel reportedly had an opportunity to kill Abbas Araghchi & Mohammed- Bagher Ghalibsf, the parliamentary speaker who has emerged as the US choice to lead negotiations.

However, a Pakistani source told Reuters that Israel was ordered to halt the planned attacks, saying “We told the US if they are also eliminated then there is no one else to talk to, hence the US asked the Israelis to back off”.

Has the "present" of 10 oil tankers been confirmed or is it just a claim by Trump atm?

Think it's just a "Trump said" at the moment can't seem to find any confirmation yet.

And as we know any sentence that starts with "Trump said" can also be taken with an extremely large pinch of salt.

Smeuse · 26/03/2026 20:50

Trumps is now pausing the strikes on Iran's infrastructure for another 10 days.

Just a lie by Trump.

Approximately 5 vessels passed the Strait in the last 24 hours:

Note whilst Trump was giving this briefing, "completely decimated" Iran was sending it's 10th round of missiles towards Israel. Article is from earlier after the 7th wave:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/9-injured-as-iran-fires-7-missile-salvos-at-israel-within-hours-many-with-cluster-warheads/

Americans are really the most propagandized in the World, a real world example of Edward Bernays thesis.

Strait of Hormuz traffic increases but remains low | Latest Market News

The number of vessels crossing the strait of Hormuz with their transponders switched on has risen to at least five in the past 24 hours after a slight easing of Iran's de facto blockade.

Is that because it will take 10 days for sufficient troops to get there

According to his post on truth social it is per request of the Iranian government.

Who knows.

EasternStandard · 26/03/2026 21:10

Re propaganda there’s not much point in taking every line from either side. Last week the IRGC said it would strike badly enough to end negotiations, including allies. That critical event didn’t happen.

At this point stress levels related to headlines are best reduced.

The crunch point I think is what will happen with the troops, a lot is just filling in time until that is known.

Twiglets1 · 26/03/2026 21:21

10 oil tankers have gone through in the last few days according to multiple sources.

BelleHathor · 26/03/2026 21:22

Reality is important.

The IRGC warned that in response to Trump’s threat to bomb Iranian infrastructure within 48 hours, they would retaliate .

Before the deadline the IDF bombed the South Pars Gas Field (shared by Iran and Qatar). Iran responded by bombing the Qatar's Las Raffan site, destroying 17% of their capacity (5% of worldwide LNG) and forcing them to declare force Majeure. Trump then TACO'D.

QatarEnergy declares force majeure on some LNG contracts due to Iran war

The move comes amid production disruptions linked to the US-Israeli war on Iran, which have affected Qatar.

I do agree with this though … take everything with a pinch of salt.

Both sides are using language as propaganda.

The IRGC ramp up rhetoric for impact so if people want reality it’s not being met for them either.

Last Monday the IRGC did a big statement on doing something terrible to allies etc and it didn’t happen.

I don't think that you understand the logic. Keir Starmer is grandstanding that the UK has taken a moral stance in not bombing Iran or not sending naval vessels to the area, which is a completely irrelevant position given that the UK military doesn't have the aircraft or available ships to do either anyway.

It's no different from my elderly neighbour saying that she equally won't be sending aircraft or navy vessels to the conflict, when she too doesn't have either.

MisoA · 26/03/2026 21:35

I think you’re kidding yourself if you think he cares about the regime change! I’m sure plenty of people have profited on the stock markets from this war

Wanting or not wanting the UK to bomb Iran is an irrelevant question because it can't do it anyway.

It's a bit like asking whether you are in favour or not of the UK changing everyone's name in Iran to "Bob" . It's an irrelevant question because the UK doesn't have the ability to do that.

Actually they have now made a counter offer to Trump's 15 point peace plan.

Iranian negotiators have informed the Trump administration of their demands for an end to the war.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is demanding that the US closes all of its bases in the Gulf and pays reparations for the attacks.
Other demands include:
Iran is able to collect fees from ships travelling through the Strait of Hormuz
Guarantees that the war won’t restart, as well as an end to Israel’s operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon
Lifting all sanctions on Iran
No limitations on Iran’s missile programme

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/03/25/iran-war-latest-news-trump-ceasefire-plan-hormuz/

They’re having a fucking laugh.
