Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

1000 replies

mids2019 · 10/03/2026 07:33

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

Seems Iraq have now declared war on the US and Israel

The US-ISRAEL have been bombing the Iraqi militias and some of the Iraqi positions, so:

The Iraqi government authorised the Iraqi security forces Hash al-Shaabi and the Army to respond against any attack and defend itself against the agression Iraq is suffering from.

Dozens of drones and US-Israeli jets are attacking hashd al-Shaabi HQ in various parts of Iraq causing caasualties. Also, other groups have attacked the Iraqi forces since the war has started.

Edited to add: be mindful that a lot of ISIS/ Al Qaeda terrorists escaped from Syrian jail in January and others were transferred to Iraqi jails.https://www.fdd.org/analysis/2026/01/22/transfer-of-isis-prisoners-to-iraq-exposes-fragile-nature-of-ceasefire-in-syria/

Twiglets1 · 24/03/2026 22:34

Oh they haven’t declared war then.

They've given the official Iraqi militias full permission to respond "BY ALL MEANS AVAILABLE.".

Can a single country declare war when 2 countries have been doing war on them for weeks?

Is that not defence?Confused

It's a bit of a grey area,

After October 7th, the Iraqi miltia was a front that was sending missiles towards Israel.

Until they were ordered to stand down by the Iraqi government after the Americans threatened to withhold Iraqi money (all money earned from selling Iraqi Oil is processed through American banks and then the Americans transfer this to Iraq).

After the ISIS prisoners escaped and others were transferred to Iraq, the militias began preparing without government authorisation. Then after Khamenei was assassinated they began attacking bases in Iraq that were being used to bomb Iran.

It must be noted though that the Iraqi government voted to expel American troops in 2020

Iran says 'non-hostile vessels' may pass through Strait of Hormuz as oil price falls

Iran's mission to the UN says "non-hostile vessels" can pass through the Strait of Hormuz provided they coordinate with "the competent Iranian authorities" - the waterway is vital for global shipping

The demands from both sides are very far apart.

MushMonster · 25/03/2026 08:14

Have you seen Trump recent present comments? He is positive he is talking to the right people in Iran because they said yesterday that they were sending him a present and it arrived today. A substantially valuable present ( but not nuclear related, oil and gas related)
There.
All clear now LOL

I hope is free transit through Hormuz for the queuing tankers. But we shall see.

Indeed they are. At least they are communicating I guess:

Australian petrol stations are running out of fuel. The "well supplied market" remarks from the energy minister are pure gaslighting. IEA members must hold 90 days of fuel reserves but Australia has been holding fuel reserves on paper only rather than physically in the country. Their refining capacity has been declining for years. China is their main supplier of aviation fuel but they applied an export ban about 10 days ago.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/australian-petrol-stations-running-dry-despite-well-supplied-market-2026-03-24/

The Philippines has declared a national energy emergency with about 45 days supply available and in transit.

Slovenia is rationing fuel for private motorists although 50 litres a day doesn't seem like a terribly tight restriction.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/slovenia-limits-fuel-purchases-pumps-run-dry-2026-03-22/

Even if the situation resolved today there is going to be a long lag in getting oil moving again and repairing the damaged oil infrastructure.

I hope Trump isn't delaying energy infrastructure attacks until the markets close and ground forces arrive. The number of troops being deployed seems to grow daily.

Thanks for clarifying that earlier post.

Saudi Arabia have a position - concerned about a retaliatory Iran.

Messages with demands from both sides - feels gloomy atm, might change.

I like to think that even by making demands and talking to one another (even if indirectly) it may indicate that both sides want to do a deal?

Actually they have now made a counter offer to Trump's 15 point peace plan.

Iranian negotiators have informed the Trump administration of their demands for an end to the war.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is demanding that the US closes all of its bases in the Gulf and pays reparations for the attacks.
Other demands include:
Iran is able to collect fees from ships travelling through the Strait of Hormuz
Guarantees that the war won’t restart, as well as an end to Israel’s operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon
Lifting all sanctions on Iran
No limitations on Iran’s missile programme

So all of that is going to be rejected, obviously.

KeepPumping · 25/03/2026 11:17

I can’t see either side saying yes to those lists.

Re your pp I just listened to a podcast with him and it’s stark, he says the outcome is either $150 or $40 odd barrels. The former is global recession the latter is world prosperity. Either Iran interrupts global trade lifting price or Venezuela and Iran oil floods into the market for the latter.

Two widely diverging outcomes, highly recommend as he talks about other stuff that makes sense (and yes ik he’s ridiculously wealthy but has good overview).

Twiglets1 · 25/03/2026 11:24

A warning IF oil prices hit $150

Oil prices have fallen after Trump said negotiations to end the war were progressing, while Iran told the UN Security Council Iran has told the United Nations Security Council that “non-hostile” ships may transit the Strait of Hormuz.

According to BBC figures, Brent crude fell by 5% to $99.29 (£74.16) a barrel, while US-traded oil fell by more than 5.5% to $88.41.

Twiglets1 · 25/03/2026 11:25

KeepPumping · 25/03/2026 11:17

So all of that is going to be rejected, obviously.

At least both sides have stated their demands; the next stage will be negotiations.

None of them will get all their demands met but if they want to end the war, compromises will need to be found.
