mass strike?

Why cant we all go on strike re israels genocode? Obviously we don't want NHS to collapse and certain infrastructure has to keep moving but how are we not all screaming from the top of our lungs about Palestinians being starved and slaughtered. Money/loss of is where it will hurt those in power, sadly so many people don't seem to care or think this has anything to do with them but I'd like to think that at least half the UK population is as utterly distraught as I am about this. If everyone chose not to go into work as a form of protest surely the government would stand up and listen. Peaceful protest doesn't seem to cut it 🙄 I know it's not as simple as this and would take a LOT of planning, and not everyone would be paid for going on strike which is a privilege to even do so but I'm in utter despair about how this will ever stop and radical action seems needed!

Also out of curiosity, are people boycotting the likes of coca cola/Starbucks etc and those linked with supporting this Genocide?

Ridiculous

If I see any produce is made in Israel I'm more likely to buy it.

EachFallenRobin · 23/07/2025 16:46

I'll bet you've never considered striking about any other overseas conflict, have you OP?

wellwellwell39 · 23/07/2025 16:53

The conflict in Congo, Yemen, yes....all worthy of striking over. All lives are equal and no one country/people is more worthy than another when suffering injustice /atrocities are happening

Exactly this. My family, friends and I must have been propping up the Israeli date business and we didn’t even like dates before but we do now!

What about Susan and Yemen OP, do you feel as strongly that we must do something to stop the wars there too?

SisterTeatime · 23/07/2025 16:56

I buy Israeli dates on purpose because I’m fed up with hearing my colleagues saying ‘we’ should boycott this and that.

Dangermoo · 23/07/2025 16:59

There isn't a genocide and many posters talked about boycotting Israeli goods after the slaughter of Israelis. If you look back, I'm sure you will find the thread.

You sound like you’re reading from a script

If we had a strike every time there was conflict or war somewhere we'd always be on strike. There hasn't been a time since I've been alive that there hasn't been a war going on somewhere. In fact there has probably never been a time in the entire history of humankind that there hasn't been a war going on somewhere.

Kakeandkake · 23/07/2025 17:01

I boycott Israeli dates, so does all my family.

There is a genocide and mass starvation.

Shame on the Israeli government and their supporters.

In this country we are free to boycott Israeli goods!

Comedycook · 23/07/2025 17:03

And I think you'd be surprised how many people actually don't care at all about what's going on in the me. You might think from looking on here and sm that people are really passionate and opinionated on this subject....but the truth is there's huge numbers of people who really aren't very interested at all.

Pubgarden · 23/07/2025 17:03

It is pretty hard to read about people stuffing down dates after seeing the cover of today's Daily Express.

wellwellwell39 · 23/07/2025 17:04

OK, if you are purposefully buying dates from Israel etc, can you tell me why? I of course condemn the hostages losing their lives who were taken in October, of course. But are you truly unable to feel anything for the tens of thousands of babies and children being starved right now, and those who have been brutally murdered intentionally and so viciously?

Could we go on strike and protest until Hamas treat their civilians like humans instead of deliberately utilising them as pawns.
Then also - the war is over if they release the remaining 200 hostages.

If it’s any consolation we don’t buy dates as we don’t like them.

Of course of course the hostages “lost their lives” … or you could say they were “brutally murdered” too?

I did say why. It’s because I’m fed up with my colleagues saying ‘we’ must boycott Israeli companies. It pisses me off, so I buy the dates as a secret act of petty revenge.

Pubgarden · 23/07/2025 17:11

The hostages were brutally murdered. Utterly unforgivable.

As a complete nobody I am horrified by what happened but am equally heartbroken to see children starving. As I say, I am a complete nobody, I probably understand nothing of this but I wish some less cruel present and future could be found.

Who said anything about not feeling anything when they see children suffering?

How would this influence Netanyahu?? The only person who has any leverage over him is Trump. Why should we disrupt things in this country. You are very naive
