Why do you get all the knobs at Glastonbury? (Part 2)

Bob Vylan crying in their cornflakes after having their US visas revoked.
This is pretty serious as one ESTA question is ‘Have you ever been denied a U.S. visa you applied for with your current or previous passport, or have you ever been refused admission to the United States or withdrawn your application for admission at a U.S. port of entry?’

So no US work or holidays in the future for them.

Also three festivals have dropped them, so far.

Freedom of speech yes, freedom from the consequences, no.

Who are Bob Vylan? The British punks who had their US visas revoked for anti-IDF chants

The group’s ‘death to the IDF’ chant at Glastonbury ignited a firestorm – and prompted action from the US state department

Surely it's only a matter of time before they get dropped from Boardmasters too ... no one wants to be associated with them any more.

Apart from Gary Linekar - he's liking their Instagram posts apparently - shock!

Excellent piece by James O'Brien.

Well, he gets it right............. sometimes.

Thanks, some of the letters from the Times readers were pleasantly surprising, even readers that are upset with Vylan hold free speech as much more important. The explanation around potential charges was excellent.

I have the feeling that in the long run the outrage might end up being like the Streisand effect.

And that letter that he read out 3 times, was exquisitely written.

I just watched that clip there and I think it ended with a very good question that some posters here should ask themselves. Are you really more outraged by what a band said on stage than you are by the actions of the IDF since then? And if you are what then hell is wrong is wrong you.

Over 100 Palestinians dead since then, a school, a hospital, people queuing for aid, a displacement camp are among the places attacked. In the past 24hrs alone Israel have attacked Gaza more than 140 times. Bob Vylan are not the story and if you think that they are what the hell is wrong with you.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/07/2025 05:23

We live in a world where atrocities are commonplace and fake rage and gaslighting is directed against anyone angrily objecting to it. It’s all “politics “.

They are completely different things.

I'm not "outraged" by what Bob Vylan said but I do think they deserve to be under criminal investigation and they are. It's not ok to go around calling for death to people you disagree with, whether professional soldiers or British MPs. (Kneecap).

The thing I am actually outraged by was what happened at the other music festival. The one that started the Israel- Hamas war.

Dangermoo · 03/07/2025 09:12

I can guarantee all those saying this dick shouldn't be punished, were the same pushing for Lucy Conolly's imprisonment. Hypocrites.

Since I posted this after midnight at least 73 more people have been killed and many more injured by Israel. Israel killed 33 aid seekers, starving people that they made walk miles to try and get food for their families. They bombed tents and amongst the people they killed are a mum, dad and 4 of their children. They attacked a school sheltering displaced people and killed at least 11 people.

It's be great to see a thread reach over 1000 posts showing outrage over this. It would be great to see Starmer commenting on this. It would be great to see the perpetrators of this be banned from the US.

Words on a stage and 'no one wants to be associated with them anymore'. 100s of accusations of war crimes, tens of thousands dead, at least 73 since dawn today and people are still willing to defend them.

Twiglets1 · 03/07/2025 10:37

@NiMaithLiomDeLuain You know full well that the previous thread about all the knobs at Glastonbury had many mixed opinions, so you pretending that 1000 posts showed outrage towards one side only doesn’t make it so.

If you only want to focus on “look at what the IDF has done” it might be better to post on a thread that is about that very topic.

No, I'm quite happy to post what the IDF are doing and highlight how silly it is that people including the PM are getting so worked up about a man in a band saying something whilst staying silent on and even supporting the killing of starving people everyday.

HellsBalls · 03/07/2025 18:56

Hamas could just surrender. They are never going to ‘win’ and look at what destruction they have caused by starting a war with Israel.
The IDF continues to pick them off.

Well they are 2 completely separate things & we already all know what the IDF is doing so 🤷🏼‍♀️

veiledsentiments · 03/07/2025 19:14

The fact that Bob Vylan has been protesting against was has been happening in Palestine for a long, long time still hasn’t moved those pro Israelis away from the idea of what Israel are doing is despicable, rather than “trendy”. Disgusting.

veiledsentiments · 03/07/2025 19:18

And who have Bob Vylan hurt? Compared to the Israeli regime? I’m guessing not many, apart from some sensitive festival goers?

Disgusting @HellsBalls as if the idf would stop even if they surrendered

your living in a dream world

how would you feel if one day you had to see your kids shot bombed or starved to death. I really can’t understand how you can be fine with these people having this happen to them just because you believe their leaders are terrorists.

Yes sure - saying death to the idf is waaaay worse than doing actual death to thousands of children.

Absolutely nuts. And I do believe history will show these apologists for what they are.

This actually makes me feel sick. The IDF continues to pick them off? The children you mean? What is actually wrong with you?

veiledsentiments · 03/07/2025 20:02

@HellsBalls i think the tide is definitely beginning to swing against you. Think you need to find some new troupe to roll out. Because the rest of us are calling bullshit!

Well the rest of you are pro-Palestine, I’m pro-Israel.
Neither of us are going to change sides or meet in the middle.
I’m still correct though that Hamas are terrorists. They did start this war. They don’t care for normal Gazans. They are being picked off by the IDF. They cannot win. They will lose. They triggered the destruction to Gaza. The Western governments are 100% behind Israel.
Israel will prevail.

Will it? Because after what has gone on, I’m not sure I could still be defending that and making my views clear. But crack on.

It's crazy isn't it. The US will welcome a man with a warrant out for his arrest for war crimes and crimes against humanity even give him a standing ovation but a black man speaking on stage is a step too far. Not to mention being pals(and then not pals and then pals again) with a man who threw a nazi salute on stage.

The hypocrisy of those who support Israel has really been laid bare this past while. At least some posters here have been honest and said that they don't care about people being starved and killed if they are Palestinian, I'd respect politicians more if they would own up to the same.
