It's heartbreaking
The gaunt, haunted images of children who are being starved to death, the amputees, the orphans, the women who used ivf to have a child that was blown to bits, the 40 newborns left to starve to death in neonatal ward
The hospitals bombed
Charity kitchens and bakeries bombed
Aid workers bombed
Tents bombs
Schools bombed
No universities left
Nothing left
I don't want to hear ooh but Israel has a right to exist
NO state that behaves like this has a right to exist
How can anyone justify Israel's stance?
This didn't start on Oct 7
This isn't about hostages
This is about human rights and why you think it's okay for Palestinians not to have any
I was a kid when Band Aid came about and remember how we raised money for Ethiopia
The fact that this is a man-made famine is abhorrent
I know there are good people in Israel- none in government sadly- but the West has blood on its hands for allowing this slaughter
Be honest you don't think that Palestinians are human do you that's why you don't care
I will never believe the western lie of democracy or human rights or freedom of speech again
It's all a big fat lie

Hamas and all their followers would be very happy to exterminate Israel and Israelis given half a chance and you know it.

That maybe true but Hamas and their previous and future iterations do have the means to do so... but Israel does have the means to kill huge numbers of Palestinians.

This is the folly of Israel's actions, all they are doing is sowing the seeds for even more hateful organisations.

I don't understand your question. Or why you chose to ignore the rest of my post to just have a dig at my perceived humour, which seems to be a bigger crime to you than genocide.

Did you mean Sandhurst? (Though I know the royals have a slew of top level advisors so you may be right)

Yes Sandhurst, sorry I got the two mixed up

SisterTeatime · 07/05/2025 17:31

Where we draw the lines when we look at history is pretty arbitrary a lot of the time. I suppose I’m saying context is important, whether we like what we learn from it or not. If you (in general, not you personally) didn’t know about the Ottoman Empire you might be really taken with the idea of Jews as ‘colonisers’ in a region that hadn’t been colonised, for example. If you didn’t know about Israel’s electoral system, you might think Likud has almost all the seats in Parliament, or even that Israel isn’t really a democracy at all. If you didn’t know much about the historic persecution of Jews you might think the Nazis’ antisemitism came out of thin air or believe slanders about Jews and money, blood libels, things like that - you might not understand why Israel is important. And so on.

Not a dig, a question.
You have judged all people who don't vote the way you think they should. You are judging me, or at least attempting to smear my character with your words. I see it a lot on this board, if I don't agree wholeheartedly with a lot of the (often anti- Israel, sometimes cunningly antisemitic) rhetoric then I must condone the death of babies and be a terrible human being.

Sometimes people play to the crowd (lurkers) and sometimes people try to find agreement and compromise. Can you imagine agreeing with someone who didn't share your political perspective?

btw as I often say, if you have to change the definition of genocide to make it a genocide then it's not a genocide. A brutal war that we would all like to end, but you and I, I suspect will have different ideas as to how that would realistically happen.

No worries. I know the royals get lots of private briefings 🙂

Maybe we shouldn't have fought ISIS or Al Qaeda then if fighting back against terrosts just makes more terrorists

And if Hamas is so much weaker than Israel it was pretty stupid to begin a war wasn't it. Although they were pretty effective at killing anyone they got their hands on on October 7th. Even Thai agricultural workers and a Filipino carer, although Hamas have yet to disclose how foreign low paid workers were oppressing them

Really? Not to be crass but 50k deaths, half of which are Hamas militants, out of a population of 2,000,000 is hardly extermination. Can we be sensible. War is terrible enough without the hysteria

And the figure would be a lot lower if Hamas' main war strategy wasn't using civilians as human shields and stockpiling aid to sell on the black market

Kakeandkake · 07/05/2025 18:36

The entire population of Gaza have been forcibly displaced in this war by Israel - many multiple times. More than 10% of the population have been killed and injured which is a considerably large figure when compared to any war in recent times. I don't think posters minimising the hell that has and is still being unleashed on Gaza by Israel, is helping.

Mylegishangingoff · 07/05/2025 18:41

Glad to see this is finally being discussed. Traditionally one of Israels most loyal allies speaking out is huge.

Explaining his position Veldkamp said: “You cannot starve the people of the Gaza Strip. It is against international law. It’s morally wrong. It’s dangerous. I don’t think it’s in Israel’s own interest.”

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to explain further.

I have no issue with any of that. I just don't agree that it allows Israel to act on behalf of Jewish persecution throughout history by bulldozing gaza and killing tens of thousands of Palestinian children.

I'm sorry, I know I might seem to be repetitive but I genuinely still can't believe that Israel is the biggest contributor to children's deaths this year and we continue to let it happen.

I don't expect whole hearted agreement... but I also don't think allowing Israel to continue their killing spree should even be a debate. I'm genuinely flabbergasted most of the time.

I don't care about definitions and semantics. I will get words wrong and say the wrong thing at times because that is me. I do care about the children and their families that I see in the images coming from Palestine. I'm so upset for them and I struggle to understand how people can continue to excuse it. If what is going on is not genocide, well then the definition is wrong and I really don't care that it is.

Pre trump I might have taken that. However since the whole 'gaza real estate' shocker, it is clear that the US is not an independent bystander in this war. I also now understand that they never were.

Yes, that was crass. But also nobody really believes the 50000 figure. Though yes 50000 is certainly shocking and will never not be!

No Hamas in the West Bank and it's not working out great for them.

Just watched a video on Al Jazeera of Israeli soldiers evicting families in the West Bank and demolishing their homes. An old woman struggling to walk on a stick with an armed soldier behind her.
