I can't believe how unbalanced the media reporting is of the events last night

The maccabi fans were behaving atrociously and inciting conflict the entire day, pulling down flags, chanting 'fuck Palestine' and intimidating Dutch Arabs

There was another thread but it got deleted. I don't think mumsnet allows discussion on this incident.

Lolapusht · 08/11/2024 10:08

Those blooming football fans going around ambushing themselves and beating themselves up, running themselves over, throwing themselves in canals for no reason.

Attention seeking yobs.

@Lolapusht
Have you seen the videos the supporters proudly posted on social media prior to the match?

Unacceptable behaviour
Not saying they deserved what happened

However that was always going to inflame tensions

Well two wrongs don't make a right.
If the Israel football hooligans did indeed do that then I can see why the Dutch hooligans responded. It was never going to end well.

EricInk · 08/11/2024 10:15

@BeFluentPombear
Of course not!
I am against any intimidation of anyone

I'm just disappointed at how this has been reported/portrayed in the mainstream media

@BeFluentPombear

This was on the news
I've spoken to a fan who went to the match last night, who reports seeing Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters on the Amsterdam metro "going up and down the carriages three or four times looking for a fight".
Conor Dalton tells me: "I felt worried. Everyone was going into the city so everyone knew what was going to happen."
He adds that he is "shocked by the portrayal" of the incident in the media, adding that the attacks were "completely provoked" and Palestinian flags were "torn down the night before".

Lolapusht · 08/11/2024 10:18

I’ve seen people begging not to be beaten up while saying “I’m not Jewish, I’m not Jewish” and of a dad running through the streets with his son and people having their heads stamped on and of more people jumping into to canals and of attackers yelling pro-Palestine/anti-Israeli things as they attack people in the street.

You are absolutely saying they deserved it.

Your OP implies ALL the Maccabi were behaving badly all day and that they incited the attacks therefore, they deserved what they got for not behaving. Were they not being Good Jews?

Oh, I’ve also heard that the attackers were not Ajax fans but were instead “highly organised” groups of men who had planned their attacks. Now, I don’t know the nationality/cultural background of those people but it’s safe to say they weren’t attacking the Maccabi fans because they supported a different team.

I will go look at the videos proudly posted on SM.

There's plenty of them who are violent towards pro Palestinians. Don't act like the violence doesn't go both ways.

Yes I'd like to see evidence of this too....

The Jewish community in the UK is overwhelmingly peaceful, hardworking, law abiding, assimilated and has contributed so much which is why to see so many people in the UK turn their backs on British Jews just disgusts me.

Ofcourse there has been violence. I didn't say it was specifically about British Jews or anything like that. There has been violence from what I have seen from thugs who identify with either side.

KoalaBC · 08/11/2024 10:32

Well I hope whoever was part of last nights violence is caught and prosecuted. Football hooligans have really got out of hand over the years and more needs to be done to prevent it.

Why are you perpetuating division between groups particularly ones that aren't mutually exclusive? There are British Jewish Pro-Palestinian people. And why would there be examples of British Jewish beating Pro-Palestinian people unless you're equating pro-Palestinian with people being racist and violent. Taking down posters, while despicable, is not the same as attacking Arab taxi drivers cars for example, the latter being more likely to breed a violent response considering it's inciting violence.

You are correct. Just as an example of British Jews being attacked for being pro-palestinian by thugs.

The people carrying out the attacks were nothing to do with the football. Ajax fans are generally very much pro-Israel.

The attackers appeared to be Arab migrants.

Dulra · 08/11/2024 10:57

What happened last night was disgusting. A display of hooliganism, racism and antisemitism from the thugs of society. I think a thread discussing shitty behaviour when neither side come out well is pointless and just adding to it. In my experience these kinds of people don't need much to spark a fight they get a kick out of it, the cause is irrelevant to them.

What I do find very disappointing was the disrespect shown by some fans to a minutes silence for the Valencia flood victims, that just comes from a place of cruelty, why would you anyone want to mock the death and suffering of others.

Absolutely shameful of you to make a comparison to Kristallnacht

Lolapusht · 08/11/2024 11:14

All of you bringing up examples of Maccabi fans being awful are perpetuating the notion of being “Good Jews”! It’s almost laughable. “Be football fans, but because you’re Jewish you’ve got to behave better than the rest of the football fans”.

The attackers were not primarily Ajax fans. This was not football hooliganism.

I’ve seen some of the things Maccabi fans did and so far I can see a flag being taken down and not respecting the minutes silence. Flag being taken down, not fussed about. Get over it. Not observing a minute’s silence is assh*le behaviour but does happen at sporting events. I can’t comment on the supposed chants as I don’t speak Hebrew and can never work out what’s being said in football chants anyway. In the course of finding those videos I have seen more horrendous footage from last night of people being attacked. Oh, and one instance of the attackers demanding to see a Jewish looking guy’s ID! Turns out he was Ukrainian, not Jewish and unimpressed with his treatment. But yeah, those Maccabi fans inciting everything.

I think we’re up to over 60 arrests of attacker ie not Maccabi fans. Lots of condemnation for the attacks from prominent politicians and none of them so far seem to have a “bad actors on both sides” theme.

I did find this video that shows a child joining in attacking a lone man who eventually jumps onto train tracks to escape the attack.

TRIGGER WARNING: IT’S VIOLENT
