I can't believe how unbalanced the media reporting is of the events last night

The maccabi fans were behaving atrociously and inciting conflict the entire day, pulling down flags, chanting 'fuck Palestine' and intimidating Dutch Arabs

Why are so many people so desperate to continually deny anti semetism. Not just this incident but every time anything happens to Jewish people... endless endless arguments trying to convince us all that it wasn't anti semetism...it was actually something else.

Why?

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/11/2024 13:15

Know nothing of this. Why, though, are so many football fans so bloody violent? It rarely happens with other sports.

KoalaBC · 08/11/2024 10:19

There's plenty of them who are violent towards pro Palestinians. Don't act like the violence doesn't go both ways.

Absolute rubbish. Jews avoid the pro Palestinian marches that are so frequent in London. The violence has come from pro Palestinians who rip down posters of hostages, throw red paint everywhere, threaten Jews attending community centres .. school and synagogues all have massive security.
Jews are now told not to wear anything that identifies them as being Jewish so that they avoid being beaten up ,(that includes school children FFS) This is what happened in Germany 100 years ago.

the (mostly apparently muslim) attackers were not football fans.

Well it's behaviour that happens here every week 🤷🏻‍♀️

Where exactly? Please send examples.

Absolutely shameful of you to make a comparison to Kristallnacht

Last night was the anniversary of Kristallnacht.

Those blooming football fans going around ambushing themselves and beating themselves up, running themselves over, throwing themselves in canals for no reason.

Attention seeking yobs.

I mean all that anti semitic chanting the Israeli fans did to themselves.

The hit and run scooter attacks on Israeli fans, again obviously done by themselves to themselves. Nothing to see here. Deny, deny, deny.

The Dutch police felt there was a lot of anti semitism and attacks on Israelis but what do they know! If someone on MN feels it wasn't that bad then stop fussing.

So much ignoring of anti semitism whilst pro Palestine groups run wild.

ismu · 08/11/2024 13:19

Whoever said it wasn't an Old Firm punch up has absolutely no idea how badly football ultras behave.
Maccabi have form for this, they caused huge problems in Greece earlier in the year, turned up at the stadium with pyros ( should be instant ban) refused to observe a silence and sang revolting chants about dead children. They were absolutely stuffed and went looking for trouble.
Dutch fans generally are not known for their tolerance and at one point were the most violent in Europe.
Football violence needs heavy penalties and policing and this is what happened here. Anyone who believes that all the Ajax fans were in the stadium is an idiot, there are always hooligan supporters who'll come out and join in with trouble like this.
Both clubs should suffer and be forced to play with no audience as a consequence.
That's happened to the Old Firm very recently.
This is not a Pogrom.

bloodredfeaturewall · 08/11/2024 13:16

Just supporters of terrorists. No wonder there is growing concern in western countries.

Lolapusht · 08/11/2024 13:05

Ah…I was specifically talking about Maccabi fans, not Israelis. You’ve done that thing where you think I’ve said something and criticise me when I haven’t actually said the thing. Whoops!

The attacks were not carried out by “hooligans”. It wasn’t an Old Firm type punch up. The Dutch authorities have just suggested that people came in from outside Amsterdam to carry out these attacks.

And I'm talking about them too..so I'm not sure your point . The Israeli Maccabi fans were acting racist and violent and you said pointing that out and critiquing it is perpetuating the "good jew" trope, something you still haven't clarified despite somehow having a problem with me telling you that attitude also perpetuates the racism against Arabs and Muslims that emboldened the Israeli fans to act the way they were.

The blindness to the truth.

Exactly.

Full blown anti semitism. The Dutch police confirmed it but people on here deny and minimise or deflect.

Odd but predictable.

This is not a pogrom I love people who tell Jews what is antisemitism or what constitutes a pogrom. Just don't fucking tell us.

ismu · 08/11/2024 13:26

@OctoberOctopus also this

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleoff_Beverwijk

Any ultras going to Amsterdam and causing trouble for residents will absolutely face retaliation. And anyone travelling with Maccabi would be aware of the hooligan element.

OctoberOctopus · 08/11/2024 13:28

bloodredfeaturewall · 08/11/2024 13:12

THEY WERE NOT HOOLIGANS

they were not football fans getting into a brawl with other football fans.

this was an organised mob lying in wait after a friendly football game. strategically hunting, chasing, injuring anyone who appeared jewish or from israel.

This.

It was organised and hunting of particular people.

ismu · 08/11/2024 13:28

@LetThereBeLove I love people who interpret every act of violence involving Israelis as anti semitic. Even if there's a context of Israeli hooligans starting a fight with other idiot hard men.

Most of it is antisemitic and much is hiding behind antizionism. You just proved the point of my post.

ismu · 08/11/2024 13:31

@OctoberOctopus
Lying in wait for opposing fans is what football hooligans/ ultras do. They organise in gangs and brigades.
This is the absolute definition of hooliganism.
It really is not all about Jews.
If you've ever been to a football match you'll know the kind of insults and sectarian/ racist/ homophobic language that gets thrown out casually.
Maccabi ultras dished out plenty of that unfortunately they picked the wrong city to do it in.

OctoberOctopus · 08/11/2024 13:33

TammyBundleballs · 08/11/2024 10:56

The people carrying out the attacks were nothing to do with the football. Ajax fans are generally very much pro-Israel.

The attackers appeared to be Arab migrants.

Worrying they planned the attack. In a European country.

That this is not antisemitism but hooligans behaving like thugs being attacked by thugs
