I can't believe how unbalanced the media reporting is of the events last night

The maccabi fans were behaving atrociously and inciting conflict the entire day, pulling down flags, chanting 'fuck Palestine' and intimidating Dutch Arabs

Worrying they planned the attack. In a European country.

So you think it is not related in anyway by the provocation of the Maccabi fans chanting death to Arabs amongst other hideous things?

Comedycook · 08/11/2024 10:22

Yes I'd like to see evidence of this too....

The Jewish community in the UK is overwhelmingly peaceful, hardworking, law abiding, assimilated and has contributed so much which is why to see so many people in the UK turn their backs on British Jews just disgusts me.

Exactly this.

All of you bringing up examples of Maccabi fans being awful are perpetuating the notion of being “Good Jews”! It’s almost laughable. “Be football fans, but because you’re Jewish you’ve got to behave better than the rest of the football fans”.

The attackers were not primarily Ajax fans. This was not football hooliganism.

I’ve seen some of the things Maccabi fans did and so far I can see a flag being taken down and not respecting the minutes silence. Flag being taken down, not fussed about. Get over it. Not observing a minute’s silence is assh*le behaviour but does happen at sporting events. I can’t comment on the supposed chants as I don’t speak Hebrew and can never work out what’s being said in football chants anyway. In the course of finding those videos I have seen more horrendous footage from last night of people being attacked. Oh, and one instance of the attackers demanding to see a Jewish looking guy’s ID! Turns out he was Ukrainian, not Jewish and unimpressed with his treatment. But yeah, those Maccabi fans inciting everything.

I think we’re up to over 60 arrests of attacker ie not Maccabi fans. Lots of condemnation for the attacks from prominent politicians and none of them so far seem to have a “bad actors on both sides” theme.

I did find this video that shows a child joining in attacking a lone man who eventually jumps onto train tracks to escape the attack.

TRIGGER WARNING: IT’S VIOLENT

x.com/netanelcrispe/status/1854760668278235464?s=61&t=_cKTNp_TyAyzDViEOCJDFQ

That is sick. Attacks on Jewish people. Clear as day. Children joined in with the planned attacks. They threw one Jewish man onto the train tracks. Sick, vile anti semitic thugs. Call it what it is for once.

KoalaBC · 08/11/2024 13:36

It was quite obviously a disproportionate and violent response but I can't understand why some posters are choosing to ignore or pretend there was no provocation for it?

ismu · 08/11/2024 13:36

@LetThereBeLove your argument is that all Israelis are entitled to a free pass for bad behaviour because anything else is Anti Semitic.

The club should have clamped down on these ultras earlier in the year. Why on earth is anyone defending the violence they perpetrated against Muslims or brown people?

Are you purposely ignoring that attacks were planned in advance of the game. Nothing to do with the game, the national anthem or what occurred on the day. Planned in advance.... coordination of scooters riding into attack. Seen that before haven't we.

Edited

I haven't seen that reported actually.

ismu · 08/11/2024 13:40

@quantumbutterfly what's the problem with the posts from Wikipedia- they give examples of the dreadful levels of violence in Ajax fan bases. Which doesn't go away.
These aren't people to start battles with.

Is this video even verified from yesterday's attack?

Go watch the news then. Amsterdam police reported that. Organised groups, from outside the area, scooters arrived to attack the fans, all planned.

9isfine · 08/11/2024 13:42

Absolutely this.

Doubt those saying ' 'the Israeli's brought it on themselves'. Would have said the Pro-Palestinians had brought it on themselves, if Jews responded violently.

In fact, we can see right now that they are not saying that.

According to this account this is an old video from 2023 that has nothing to do with yesterday's violence.

It's apparently from an unrelated incident in 2023 but researching that before posting it here would have been too much for PP perhaps.

I did see some of the footage on the news of the actual attack which was very violent. I can't see the point of using footage from an unrelated event to make a point that it was violent.

ismu · 08/11/2024 13:46

@KoalaBC probably the most vomit inducing part of this whole situation is Geert Wilders, an obnoxious anti semite and racist, capitalising on this incident and condemning the violence as a pogrom. That should tell us a lot.
Why is Geert Wilders supporting Israel here?

That x account shared by the poster is hateful cesspit that equates anyone who is pro-Palestinian as pro-Hamas. Considering that I'm not too taken aback that they are spreading wilful misinformation.

Is it supporting Israel? I would have thought it was shame and apology for attacks on visitors to his country

Thanks for correction. I usually only follow the main news since more accurate. Hence my urge to watch the latest news reports from Amsterdam police statements.

It doesn't take away from what the Amsterdam police report of planned attacks on Jewish people from people out of the area. Still anti semitism as the reason for the attacks since planned ahead of any flag removal and not football related.

Again though why are you choosing to put pro Palestinian people and Jews as opponents rather than pro -palestinian protestors and pro-Israeli protestors? Are you insinuating that Pro-Palestinian protestors are attacking Jewish people in the same way that these Israeli football fans were chanting "finish the Arabs" and attacking Moroccan cab drivers by protesting against the assault on Gaza?

Grantanow · 08/11/2024 13:52

I see the Dutch King apologised this morning for failing the Jews in WW2 and yesterday. I assume he is better informed about yesterday's events than we are.

ismu · 08/11/2024 13:55

@herecomesautumn Geert Wilders hates Jews almost as much as he hates Muslims. Although he has tried to cover it up in his support for Israel.
From 2016.
The Dutch Jewish weekly NIW last month claimed that, “Dutch Jewry is fed up with Geert Wilders.”
Jewish groups in Holland were known to be deeply uncomfortable with Mr Wilders’s decision to forge an alliance in the European Parliament with the National Front, the French far-right party led by Marine Le Pen.

Indeed he is.

He feels shame for these anti semitic attacks in his country.

No minimising, deflection or denial from him or the police.

Because anti-Semites like the attackers in Amsterdam hate people for being Jewish. In the footage of Hamas on October 7th they as saying ' find the Jews' , not 'find the Israelis.'

And yes, I think a lot of pro-Palestinian protestors are anti-Semitic. I think some of them hate all Jews and some of them of racist ideas of 'good' and 'bad' Jews. That comes through clearly on many posts on MN, for example.
