@Polka83

The difference is that Israel has long ago lost any moral standing, and no one bar their most ardent supporters is buying their bullshit anymore.

@AhNowTed
Quite. And almost half of Israelis consider it unnecessary for their country to abide by international law or ethical values.

Actually, the issue in this thread is: Has enough been done to tackle incitement to genocide?

No.

People shouting "From the river to the sea" and "has the jews" during protests in the UK should be arrested by the police and not ignored.

They should stop knocking on people's doors for things they've posted on Twitter about biological facts and start arresting people celebrating en masse when civilians are raped and murdered and inciting genocide.

"From the river to the sea" has been used by the Israeli government too. I hope you agree that they should be arrested too.

You have lost me here. Care to explain?
start arresting people celebrating en masse when civilians are raped and murdered and inciting genocide.
I don't think that there is enough jail space for the IDF/ the Israeli government all at once in Israel to do that.

re: “From the river to the sea….”
It is interesting to read the history of the phrase and how it has been variously used and interpreted in this Wikipedia article.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_the_river_to_the_sea

Netanyahu apparently used the phrase in January 2024 though Haaretz wrote to clarify that :

From the River to the Sea | Israel-based News Outlet Incorrectly Translates Netanyahu's Words, Leading to Media Firestorm
Israeli-based news channel i24, incorrectly translated the prime minister's statement 'Israel must have security control over the entire territory west of the Jordan River' as 'Israel must have control from the river to the sea,' leading to accusations of a deliberate provocation by Netanyahu.

Snopes, though, says that whatever the exact translation, Netanyahu meant Israel should control that whole expanse between the river and the sea.
www.snopes.com/news/2024/01/19/netanyahu-river-to-the-sea/

Previously in Sept 2023 Netanyahu had addressed the United Nations Assembly and held up a map showing Israel marked as being all of that land from the river to the sea. (Screen shot).

The right of the Jewish people to the land of Israel is eternal and indisputable… therefore, Judea and Samaria will not be handed to any foreign administration; between the Sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty.—Likud Party Platform, 1977

There were protests in support of Israel who are according to International Drs are executing children, who are stripping children down to their underwear and using them as human shields, who are gang raping and torturing detainees. Who according to the ICJ have been, for decades, denying Palestinians their right to self determination, systematically discriminating against them, illegally annexing their land and profiting from their resources. Should the people who marched in support of the country shamelessly carrying out these violations of international law be arrested or at least placed on some kind of watchlist?

Nobody seems to have an issue with the people who marched in support of this ^ but wave a Palestinian flag and call for a ceasefire and you are enemy no1.

Why would a genocidal regime vaccinate its target against polio?

Why would a genocidal regime vaccinate its target against polio?

Because experts have warned it could spread to Israel.

Of course tbey're not. But they are facilitatimg the roll out. Its a funny way to conduct a genocide.

ScrollingLeaves · 02/09/2024 12:09

As someone pointed out, and another gave a link to the facts, they are worried it will spread to them, and no doubt worried about the eyes of the ICJ and US public. Their bombs and planes coukd be on the line. It isn’t so easily seen as ‘collateral damage’.

SharonEllis · 02/09/2024 11:42

Yeah, nobody believes they are doing it because they care about the children they have spent almost a year denying healthcare to, bombing, executing, orphaning and traumatising. They are doing it because they have a vaccination problem in Israel with at least 175,000 vulnerable children — the offspring of the ultra-Orthodox, or haredim, who are notorious for their opposition to vaccinations.

Although up until this outbreak caused by the conflict Gaza has been polio free for 25 years thanks to vaccinations Israel still has a polio problem due to vaccine refusal which could be made much worse if it isn't gotten under control in Gaza.

SharonEllis · 02/09/2024 12:17

The point is that they are doing something. We can all agree that's good right?

Oh, I thought your point was that they couldn't possibly be genocidal because they are allowing the UN to vaccinate children. Sure, of course it's a good thing, for both Palestinian and Israeli children.

It's good that children are getting access to vaccinations absolutely, but we have nothing to be grateful to Israel for in this. Their involvement is the equivalent of bringing someone to hospital after breaking their nose.

Thank you . I didn't know 90% Gaza's population were vaccinated against polio in the first quarter of this year. Does change the narrative a bit, doesn't it?

There will never be any acknowledgment that Israel has done anything right . It will always be framed as a negative.

Israel protecting their large population of unvaccinated children from Polio is of course a positive thing, why would you think it was negative? Of course children should be protected from the brutality and stupidity of adults, that's always a good thing. Nobody is saying it isn't positive, they just don't think that Israel trying to protect their unvaccinated children is proof that there is no genocidal intent towards Palestinians. It would be great to see Israel eradicate polio like Gaza had prior to the conflict, it's awful that in 2024 in what is widely regarded as a modern, cosmopolitan country polio is still is an issue for children.

Well… I mean, why is there a polio outbreak in Gaza in the first place? Not because Israel’s done something right.
And a pause in fighting simply means that when fighting resumes, the IDF will kill vaccinated Palestinian children instead of unvaccinated ones. Yay. Winning rhymes with winning!

I know, its sick. And never a word of criticism of Hamas who have consistently failed to protect their own population by every measure and not only refuse to release the hostages but have just murdered 6 of them.

Read up on why it has returned before you think it changes any narrative.

There has been plenty of criticism of Hamas, I doubt many ever thought a proscribed terrorist organisation would ever have Palestinian interests at heart but I would expect a modern democratic state to have higher standards and values then Hamas, would you not?

What do you want people to say? Well done Israel for allowing babies some really basic healthcare that they should have been receiving anyway? The vaccinations that are desperately needed because Israel have created the conditions to allow polio to return when Gazans worked so hard to get rid of it, the healthcare that is needed to protect the Israelis that don't vaccinate their children? A big clap on the back for benevolent Israel, well done to them.

You don't find it sick that Israel have closed hospitals so that the previous vaccination rate of 99% has fallen to 89%, you don't find it sick that Israel have destroyed so much infrastructure that hundreds of thousands of children are living in unsanitary conditions leading to the spreading of diseases, you find it 'sick' that people aren't clapping Israel on the back. What a world we live in.

“Israel protecting their large population of unvaccinated children from Polio is of course a positive thing, why would you think it was negative?“
No - I didn’t say I thought the vaccination program was negative… I said it was being FRAMED in a negative way by posters who paint everything as evidence of Israeli’s villainy. eg “don't think that Israel trying to protect their unvaccinated children is proof that there is no genocidal intent towards Palestinians.” )
