It appears Jews are not safe in the UK at all.

Can we seriously look at the impact of anti semitism now?

Police at the home of one of the men arrested over an alleged terror plot

Three in court over alleged plan to attack Jewish community

Three men are accused of planning a gun attack on the Jewish community in North-West England.

UK politicians in my view should not be seeking or need to seek the approval of any religious or ethnic group. Britain is a christian country and allows freedom of religion.

I also don't know the mindset of a Jihadi. I wouldn't say it comes from 'care' though. Having read details of previous terrorist attacks by islamists, they are warped and filled with hatred. They are pathetic individuals. Filled with a strange purpose which they seem to believe will bring the endless rewards in an assumed afterlife. As if any God worth serving would want that in any afterlife.

May they rot. They have been taught that hatred, either during childhood or radicalised later.

I just think it is easier to turn young, impressionable minds to hate when they're fed a diet of rhetoric from older people that they respect or otherwise look to for guidance.

True. Young minds are easier to mislead and groom into terrorism, support for terrorists etc.

Less than 50% called themselves Christian in the last census and we don't know what proprtion are actively practsing. I hope it means we are a secular country.

I’m sure that age is a factor. When people are young they have less of a fixed identity and more of a need to belong.

This, I think, is utterly untrue.

Look at the age of some of the people storming the Capitol because they thought Joe Biden stole the election from Trump.

All ages are vulnerable to grooming and disinformation.

quantumbutterfly · 19/05/2024 23:28

I think I would put that in the category of no head rather than no heart.
I hope the majority of people temper youthful passion with perspective as they get older, but perspectives vary.

Just my thoughts, not planning a dissertation on it anytime soon.

noblegiraffe · 19/05/2024 23:39

I think that all bets are off now that disinformation is massively spread and whipped up by the internet.

I think anyone thinking 'I'm older, therefore wiser, and therefore not going to get sucked in' is probably naive to how vulnerable they are.

quantumbutterfly · 20/05/2024 00:06

True, not necessarily wiser but not as energetic about acting on impulse. Hurts the knees.

Frankly it's disgusting that children are not safe in our state schools. The trouble is as can be seen all over these threads anti semitism is rife. The labour party tried hard to stamp it out, the country needs to try harder wherever it is seen, heard etc

Unfortunately Starmers Labour diluted 'antisemitism' and turned it into a political weapon to destroy anyone who disagrees with him. He did not rid the party of it, he just rid the party of his political opponents, something most dictators have in common. Sadly islamophobia is still rife in parliament and nobody is doing anything about that.

Sometimes you can't really believe what people type.

quantumbutterfly · 20/05/2024 20:32

Yes it's homeopathic antisemitism, not like the old psychopathic stuff. Antisemitism lite.

HelenHen · 20/05/2024 20:57

What Starmer did: using antisemitism to rid his party of political opponents, was antisemitic in itself. Its unfortunate and embarrassing for him and I'm really sorry that he abused the term in such a way

noblegiraffe · 20/05/2024 21:00

That doesn’t even make any sense.

HelenHen · 20/05/2024 21:04

Starmer is antisemitic. He is using the Jewish people and a very important and emotive term, to rid the party of his political opponents. Its quite blatant.

No, I think the only people 'using antisemitism' in this scenario were the antisemites. Do you think that was antisemitic or 'antisemitic'? I mean, it wasn't either but I'm curious about your categorising system.

Jumped the shark and invoked NotJewish Voice for Labour? Oh dear.

I think you’re right that any age can be vulnerable. And I also think that most people believe they could never be sucked in by disinformation, because it’s comforting to believe that.

But I do think that age is one of many factors that can potentially make somebody more vulnerable. Which isn’t the same as saying all young people are more vulnerable than all old people.

I think you might have misunderstood who I was mocking here.
