"Yemen, Yemen make us proud, turn another ship around!" was being chanted on the streets of London yesterday and last week.

I'm just interested in whether people think this is a reasonable thing to be chanting or not, because there were quite a few people chanting it. So a quick poll:

Support for the Houthis who are attacking ships not peacefully turning around.

Is that man a clueless tool? Well I know he's a tool in one sense at least.

would Love to know who actually wrote and produced that leaflet. Doubt it was anything to do with a Ukrainian

Scratch the surface of the far left in this country and you'll find the paid Putin shills. Although you barely need to scratch the surface.

Russia???

noblegiraffe · 21/01/2024 11:11

If you look up the group who produced that leaflet, they're a pro-Russian propaganda group.

Bloody hell

quantumbutterfly · 21/01/2024 11:28

Interestingly the spy catcher book talks of USSR destabilising UK through the unions in the 70s, my father used to talk of this from his own union meetings.
It was obvious to him that the only clear goal was to stir up trouble not achieve a settlement.
I suppose all governments use divide and conquer on their perceived enemies, the side you pick depends on whether you perceive their end game to align with your values.

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 21/01/2024 11:29

How did it get on a march in Birmingham?? British far left paid Russian supporters? Fucking putin

quantumbutterfly · 21/01/2024 11:30

All you need to do is find someone with a grievance and feed it.

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 21/01/2024 11:31

Gawd

Yes and in this case they have identified a group who are unhappy with the government in one area (Israel/Gaza) and are trying to shift them into a wider dissatisfaction that will benefit them (reduce military support for Ukraine).

quantumbutterfly · 21/01/2024 11:33

Indeed.
Best not to jump on the bandwagon till you can see where it's rolling.

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 21/01/2024 11:42

gawd. It all makes sense now

Papyrophile · 21/01/2024 11:42

It is time to be incredibly sceptical about everything we are told, from every source including the most august institutions of free speech. Putin and Xi are both emboldened by divisions in the West and keen to sow discord. Islamists are embroiled in their destabilisation of democracy and free speech. Apologies if this sounds a bit conspiracy theory-ish, but I am coming round to the notion, even while I want to reject it.

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 21/01/2024 11:43

I sure hope the government are onto this!

You’re dead right

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 21/01/2024 11:46

I should say you’re absolutely right - that could read the wrong way

stomachameleon · 21/01/2024 11:51

@Papyrophile good post.

quantumbutterfly · 21/01/2024 11:54

Must be hard work trying to keep an eye on all the pieces in this game, I would expect the main players to have a lot of help.
Most people are conflicted by the level and methods of control needed to exercise such power over life and death. You would have to really believe you were on the right side.

Nope, they don't have a clue how to deal with it.

It doesn't sound remotely conspiracy theorit ish at all

It's a pity more people can't see it.

quantumbutterfly · 21/01/2024 11:59

I think one of the biggest problems is that each player has a different rule book. There is no such thing as fair play.
But I am just a random mumsnetter. I know nothing.

I disagree. You seem to know quite a lot! 🤣🤣

I don't think it's a conspiracy theory to say that there are anti-west groups actively working against us. That was clear from the manipulation of Brexit.

China is building up to war, and I think is often overlooked as a threat compared to Russia in the UK.

I think people are happy to believe that Iran are stirring up trouble in the Middle East by funding various groups and regimes but are less willing to believe the same thing might be happening to us.

I think we do need to be careful to emphasise that when we are talking about Islamists, we mean radical extremists rather than another word for Muslim, particularly given the now-deleted posts upthread.
