Yemen, Yemen make us proud, turn another ship around!

"Yemen, Yemen make us proud, turn another ship around!" was being chanted on the streets of London yesterday and last week.

I'm just interested in whether people think this is a reasonable thing to be chanting or not, because there were quite a few people chanting it. So a quick poll:

It's shocking. The chanters are not very bright. The Houthis they cheer on are preventing the aid ships getting through to Yemen.

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 15/01/2024 21:12

Video as expected - randoms with low IQs with nothing better to do on a weekend. Wish these people would fuck off and do something productive

Do you really think a ceasefire in Gaza will make Houthi rebels stop their terrorism?

Yes, they have clearly stated that they will stop when there is a ceasefire and humanitarian aide is allowed into Gaza.

YouJustDoYou · 15/01/2024 21:20

If they support those terrorists, they are scum.

headstone · 15/01/2024 21:21

anyone who supports the governments position but criticises these protesters is a total hypocrite. Destabilising the Middle East will cause mass civilian casualties, worse then we are currently seeing. Frankly you should be ashamed of yourselves. De-escalation and ceasefire is the only solution if you genuinely care about civilians.

Yes, they have clearly stated that they will stop when there is a ceasefire and humanitarian aide is allowed into Gaza.

They also said that they were only targeting Israeli linked ships.

Why are they lying and targeting other ships too?

Is it maybe not just about Gaza for them?

Do you think that Houthis attacking random international shipping counts as an escalation or de-escalation?

OP posts:

The Houthis want a ceasefire, if you are criticising the Houthi supporters for escalation when you are supporting the actions of a government that leads to further escalation you are therefore a hypocrite.

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 15/01/2024 21:33

I don’t think we can put “integrity” as a characteristic of the Houthis, Hamas or any other cunty terrorist organisation

noblegiraffe · 15/01/2024 21:34

So you agree that attacking random international shipping is an escalation.

But also that escalation isn't the solution.

Therefore the Houthis are wrong for attacking random international shipping.

And therefore should not be cheered on the streets of London.

We got there.

curious how do you know from a video that those in it are randoms with low IQ. Scary what AI does!

headstone · 15/01/2024 21:45

It doesn’t have to be an escalation, it could be the start of a ceasefire. I don’t genuinely have a problem with people protesting within the law, I wouldn’t consider that chant to be a hate crime.

PeasfullPerson · 15/01/2024 21:46

The Houthis became extremists following the Iraq war. It was the Iraq war that led to the Houthis officially adopting the slogan, 'God Is Great, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam'.

The Iraq war that the US led and we were part of, completely destabilized the Middle East and encouraged all sorts to extremists to flourish. not least ISIS.

We can call the Houthis terrorists but what do we call our war on Iraq? A war with absolutely no basis that destabilised a huge region and allowed all sorts of terrorist groups to grow up. Are we terrorists for our involvement in a war that killed thousands - possibly hundreds of thousands of civilians?

Of course I don't agree with people chanting "Yemen, Yemen make us proud, turn another ship around!" No one should be treating attacks or war like it is some kind of football game. Hundreds of thousands of people have already died in Yemen, the country is a complete disaster.

I really think though we need to look at the results of our actions in the past and learn from them. Not expect to do the same things and get different results. We really need to think long term.

I think you made a very balanced and sensible comment. I don’t think these chants are in anyway appropriate, but agree we should be willing to take an honest look at the actions of our country and how we got here.

I didn't ask whether it was a hate crime, I asked whether it was reasonable to chant support for terrorists who are attacking international shipping (and our Navy).

You clearly think this is a reasonable thing to do. I assume you voted upthread.

I must say, it's in particular bad taste to be defending a group of terrorists who still have 25 completely innocent hostages.

Plus, there's the whole thing about US intelligence being warned the Houthis were building up to something before October 7th. So this is a great chance for those who seem to want to convince others that the Houthis are only committing terrorist attrocities because of the war in Gaza to maybe rethink their position on this? Would be great if people would stop spreading terrorist propaganda and stop defending their actions. It's a pretty weird stance to take.

This tbh

Some people aren't very bright!

BorgQueen · 15/01/2024 18:20

Fucking idiots who’ve jumped on the bandwagon to virtue signal. If they supported Yemen, they would want the Houthis eliminated just like if they really support Palestine, they would want Hamas destroyed.
It’s very obvious that all these large protests worldwide are heavily funded and orchestrated.

This!

It's shocking & very scary how many people support terrorists in this country.

headstone · 15/01/2024 21:53

No I haven’t bothered with the vote tbh. I’m not personally sure what benefit a pro Houthi protest like that would have, but I support freedom of speech. I do feel however the only way to stop Israel from starving the Palestinians to death is through financial / political pressure. A genocide conviction won’t do it.

Humdingerydoo · 15/01/2024 22:00

So terrorism is ok as long as it's in aid of Palestinians (however far-fetched)? Got it. And attempted genocide is ok as long as it is Israel that is targeted? Great stuff.

You don't think walking through the streets chanting support for a group who has "curse upon the Jews" as part of their logo could be considered a hate crime?

windowframer · 15/01/2024 22:04

More importantly, it doesn't even rhyme properly.

Exactly. They are moronic. Same as the river to the sea lot. Losers.

I wonder what Iran thinks of what it's proxy is up to? Or do they get a say as well? Lebanon? Hezbollah?
I cannot believe people aren't connecting the dots and seeing this for what it is. Surrounding countries looking for the destruction of Israel.

I think it's a 50-50 split on people not seeing it and people who do see it and just simply don't object to it.
