"Yemen, Yemen make us proud, turn another ship around!" was being chanted on the streets of London yesterday and last week.

I'm just interested in whether people think this is a reasonable thing to be chanting or not, because there were quite a few people chanting it. So a quick poll:

Have to say I have only seen one 'I fancy a Hamas terrorist' on my twitter. Although that's one too many.

I note that the US have now designated the Houthis a terrorist organisation. Not sure if the UK will follow, it was considered a while back, but designating them terrorists would make it more difficult to get aid into Yemen (the UK sends millions in humanitarian aid to Yemen every year).

*Around one billion pounds in aid since 2015

*About 21 million Yemenis – two-thirds of the population – rely on aid to survive

  • The charity Save the Children have stated that the impact of the security threat in the Red Sea is “already being felt by humanitarian actors as disruption to trade is pushing up prices and causing delays in shipments of lifesaving goods”

*Various charities have called on the Houthis, US and UK to scale back or cease their activities. Basically there will be a very large humanitarian disaster in a few weeks if things continue as they are

Trulywonderful · 19/01/2024 23:23

From 2022:

"The agencies sent the letter because they were told by Whitehall officials that the home secretary, Priti Patel, in particular was pushing the case for the Houthis to be designated as a terrorist organisation under the Terrorism Act, as part of a review of UK policy in Yemen.

The proposal also has the strong support of some Gulf states, especially Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Saudi oil installations and civilian targets have been hit by Houthi missiles, while the UAE was hit by Houthi-fired missiles in January."

Those awful westerners sending money to try to help feed Yemenis. Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of Yemenis were marching against the west since the awful west are trying to stop them firing missiles at ships.

Hopefully the aid is reaching the woman and children.

stomachameleon · 20/01/2024 10:08

@XRAYTHIS as in the case of Gaza I doubt that very much.

Ocean108 · 20/01/2024 15:32

I think, most money they receive would be used for all other dodgy activities like building various secret routes, turning down the ships and worst they fight among themselves too. They blame western countries and also use western money as aid to build further Nukes etc. They come by boat to destabilise the west. They could always take a ship towards their Middle east countries, but they don't because of different intentions( destabilise the west), politically motivated individuals would be travelling by boat...looks like that!!! if you think rationally !!!

Please forgive my opinion if someone takes it as an offense. Just my thoughts.😰

Funny video , but has lots to say !!

Exactly the same post twice 15 minutes apart

Must be a bot or something

noblegiraffe · 21/01/2024 01:43

The original post had the UAE flag on it instead of the mosque and then they thought that maybe they weren't clear enough that they meant Muslims so edited then reposted to clarify. I don't think bots go back and edit their posts.

@Ocean108 that video is brilliant - and not far from the truth, I imagine

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 21/01/2024 06:33

Does anyone seriously believe Hamas are the good guys? This would be funny if it wasn’t so grotesque. Monsters. Evil incarnate

There are hate preachers in the Islamic community, they have a malign influence on society. As malign as the BNP.
Is it islamophobic to reject their rhetoric? Does that make a peace loving Muslim islamophobic?

Who is stirring up the rent-a-mob on the marches in London?

Support for the Houthis who are attacking ships not peacefully turning around.
