Do lots of people support Hamas?

I just read this story and it is absolutely horrific

I saw ten Hamas terrorists beat and gang-rape an Israeli woman

https://mol.im/a/12820081

Is everyone on the pro-Palestine marches in London solely supporting the innocent civilians of Palestine (as I do too)? Or are there some people on these marches supporting the actions of Hamas as well?

I want to join the marches in support of innocent adults and kids in Gaza (and I would want to march for the same reasons on any pro Israel marches too), but I do not want to endorse Hamas in any shape or form. They are absolutely vile.

There are very few people that actually condone Hamas. I've not come across any myself. Unfortunately the media has people believe that if you support Palestine then you must support Hamas when that is untrue 😒 The marches are not pro-Hamas.

Sparklesocks · 03/12/2023 20:36

Why do you think people would support Hamas specifically, and not the Palestinian civilians like you do?

Caffeineneedednow · 03/12/2023 20:37

There may be some but I would say the vast majority are there in support of the civilians that are being caught up in the crossfire

Knitgoodwoman · 03/12/2023 20:37

I think it’s less hamas they’re supporting and more they don’t want civilians murdered. I think it’s hard to support hamas, in isolation.

HermioneWeasley · 03/12/2023 20:38

Some absolutely do support Hamas and hate Jews as well. I wouldn’t March with such people, in the same way Tommy Robinson was turned away from the March against anti semitism last week.

I haven’t seen a single sign on these marches demanding the release of hostages or that Hamas stop firing rockets into Israel.

dooneyousmugelf · 03/12/2023 20:39

No I wouldn't have even thought showing support for Palestinians is akin to condoning terrorists!

electriclight · 03/12/2023 20:40

Based on the march in our city, a % of those protesting definitely do support hamas. I don't know if it is ignorance or evil, but they do.

Blueey · 03/12/2023 20:42

People say they only support the civilians and not Hamas, but they don't condemn Hamas for the many ways they oppress and persecute the very same Palestinian citizens. The basic infrastructure funds from aid that go directly to terrorism and martyrs/their families. The fear that they live under. The execution of homosexuals... the list goes on.

You only hear mention of the Palestinian citizenry when Israel is retaliating against Hamas, who are well known for hiding among civilians and using children as human shields. This tactic is well documented for years now, not just more recently.

What they're going through in Gaza is awful but it stinks that people only care sometimes and only when Israel is involved.

That’s a good question. I suppose my concern is that people are marching specifically for Palestinian citizens, and not for innocent citizens of BOTH Israel and Palestine who are caught up in this utter nightmare. Surely we should be marching in a common cause against Hamas (who don’t care a jot about civilians from either side) and FOR peace across Israel and Palestine?

Nobody I know or know of supports Hamas. There is a carefully constructed narrative that not supporting the Israeli government means you support Hamas. This is not true.

Katy231 · 03/12/2023 20:48

In pretty much every pro-palestinian interview I have watched, they have all condemned Hamas. People are protesting to stop civilians who are innocent being murdered. They also want them to be allowed to have food, water, medical supplies. I think that's quite obvious.

Well yes, that is obvious - and we all want that. But do they 100% condemn the atrocities that were committed on Israeli women (see the OP) too?

Hamas are a terrorist organisation.

TheThingIsYeah · 03/12/2023 20:53

"Down With Terrorism!"

"We Hate Hamas!"

""Free Palestine...From Hamas!"

Placards which I am almost certain WON'T be seen seen at any of the Pro-Palestine marches. As a terrorist organisation Hamas clearly have amazing PR.

I was listening to a radio call in a few weeks ago, someone remarked that if Gaza spent the amount of foreign aid it received over the years on improving its infrastructure it would be comparable to Monaco. A little tongue in cheek perhaps, but it does make you wonder. All that hatred, and for what?

It doesn't sound like you want to join a march to call for a ceasefire. It sounds like you want to cause a stir.

elprup · 03/12/2023 20:55

I want to join the marches, but I absolutely do not want to be seen as supporting Hamas in any shape or form. I also don’t want to be seen as anti Israeli (which I am absolutely not).

Genuinely baffled how you’ve come to that conclusion. What I want to march for is peace, for the people of Palestine AND Israel. I condemn Hamas 100%.

I don’t know 1 person irl that supports hamas. Everyone I encounter severely dislikes them

KinS24 · 03/12/2023 20:58

I think around 50% of Palestinians did when they were last polled.

Katy231 · 03/12/2023 21:01

Let's not forget the Israeli government supported Hamas and got them into power. They were concerned Palestine was moving towards a two state solution and offered economic privileges to Hamas.

marvellousceiling · 03/12/2023 21:02

I certainly don’t. But i do support Palestinian civilians and would happily march for ceasefire.

Conflating Hamas with Palestinians is problematic and dangerous.

The marches are to support a ceasefire. If you want to support a ceasefire then go to the marches. If you don't want to support a ceasefire then don't.

jesterdourt · 03/12/2023 21:04

Of course some will support Hamas &/or be antisemitic but no one will actually own up to that!

elprup · 03/12/2023 21:06

I want to march for peace between Israel and Palestine, and for Israelis and Palestinians to live together in unity. That clearly won’t happen whilst Hamas still exists.
