Can someone please substantiate if this picture is real or is it propaganda?

I have seen some disturbing images recently, but this one is beyond shocking to me. Surely this sort of thing is not happening in 2023?

Apparently the writing is a happy birthday wish to a child.

I cannot obviously read it to know if that's what is truly written.

I forgot that hurty words written on a bomb that obliterates people make it so much more deadly 🙄
I’m sure the Londoners trying to survive the Blitz worried about what was written on the bombs.
God it’s pathetic.

It's sick to write such things. If I was murdered (as my grandmother was in a hideous murder) I would not want to write this on a weapon.that would then go on and kill some random people that had nothing directly to do with her murder.

Well that's just an insight into your character.

Wow... it's literally impossible for some people to grasp factual information. Seriously, the lack of comprehension is astounding.

@BorgQueen stated a fact. A factual piece of information about something that happens. Nothing to do with her. No personal slant on it whatsoever. And gets told it's an "insight into her character".

No personal comment from her? You sure?

No-one is debating the factual aspect. It's the ridiculous notion of "it's been done for years so it's acceptable". Very simplistic way of looking at it.

I must have missed the poster who said it's been done for years so it's acceptable. Point me to it?

She said it's gallows humour. That's not a fact.

And I am able to grasp facts. Maybe you need to learn that other people are allowed to have opinions that are different to yours and it doesn't make them stupid or wrong.

These things should not be facts of life but they are.

It’s standard the world over.

they can write what they like on it. It wouldn't really interest me.

That doesn't scream "it isn't acceptable and shouldn't happen" to me, more "it's standard and I couldn't care less"... no?

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 20:07

@Thereissomelight that's a stretch. You are trying (once again) to conflate issues.
This story originally was about a man who wrote his name and possibly his wife's on a bomb/ rocket. And said mazel tov (congratulations)
This is not independently verified. It's just an insta post. It may not be true.
That has been done for a long time. We have shown that.
It has nothing to do whether or not Israel is defending itself.
Or that anyone is showing glee.
Or even where it's going to end up.
You got all that 'gleefulness' from two names and a phrase?

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 20:08

@ChickHenLittle so they didn't say that then?

Edited

I welcome other opinions, believe me. Would just like to see them substantiated!
"Gallows humour" is a standard phrase, not a personal opinion

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 20:08

Not the exact words, but made it clear that it isn't an issue and, therefore, acceptable. You, yourself, said you couldn't care less. I wouldn't say that is showing an objection to it, more that you accept it happens and, well, couldn't care less.

headcheffer · 24/11/2023 20:10

Bloody hell is this the worst you've seen? The other day I saw a video of a man carrying his dead child into a hospital asking for help. The child was covered in grey dust and blood, and had no body from his chest down. The man was literally carrying a quarter of his child, I'll never forget it.

Are you comparing Hamas to Nelson Mandela?

Did I compare them? i just said it's interesting who gets called a terrorist and why, and by whom, and for what purpose.

firstpasttheposter · 25/11/2023 15:55

When I was a child my great uncle squashed a fly and said 'that's what I did to Dresden'. I was quite shocked because he was a very gentle, kind man and that was the first time I'd made the connection in my mind between going to war and personally flattening buildings and buryng families under rubble, as if they were no more than files. I guess the detachment is how people cope with war, otherwise how would they get on with their lives?

Yes, It's just so interesting. What could possibly motivate people to label men who rape women and slaughter babies as terrorists? It's such a fascination intellectuelle question. I wonder has someone done a phd on it? Maybe you'd like to volunteer to have your while family slaughtered in front of your eyes so you could tell us what you think.

Stomacharmeleon · 25/11/2023 16:10

@Toothyfruity do you just trawl looking for these? Is it a hobby?
Soldiers do things because they are at war. I imagine it must be hard to disconnect in order to serve your country. I Don't think this is unique to the IDF as much as you want it to be.
Didn't talk about all this?

Didn't understand much of your comment but what I posted came up on an Instagram story just now.

Am I not allowed to post videos relevant to the OP in case IDF behaviour upsets their supporters? I'm not in Israel. I can post what I like.

BMW6 · 25/11/2023 16:25

Writing messages on bombs is nothing new - certainly common in WW2.

Triggering? Utterly ridiculous.

All people are more than capable of cuntish behaviour - I remember watching scenes of great rejoicing in the streets in some countries after 9/11, and more pertinently similar scenes in Gaza after October 7th terrorist acts.

Hey, that cowardly man blew up a residential block from hundreds of metres away, give him some respe... wait, never mind!

I would be ashamed if he was my father.

🤔 does it cut both ways or does it not count when the government sanctions murder, rape, torture, cuts off water, cuts off electricity, bombs hospitals and commits ... genocide.
I don't know about you but I'd call that out as state terrorism.

Yes, although I'm not the poster you're asking I do agree that as Hamas have committed acts of terrorism, so have the IDF. Being a legitimate government/army does not make you immune from also being a terrorist.

I think the issue is that the IDF don't do themselves any favours by constantly making tiktoks/videos doing things like this. It seems the intention is to be provocative.

If Israel is really committed to positive PR then surely they should be abit more strict about the videos soldiers make

Social media is flooded with them. Even videos where they go into abandon homes and then pick up items like necklaces and say I think my wife will like that and then pocket it whilst other soldiers laugh. Its recorded and publicised on purpose.

That's one thing I find difficult to understand at what could be the motivation behind that when so many people already criticise them

Parkingt111 · 25/11/2023 19:52

Abandoned homes in Gaza*

Parkingt111 · 25/11/2023 19:56

And you might think that with well I don't see those videos/ use social media as much etc but it's important to remember that millions do and you know just aswell as I do that social media has played a big part in shaping the views of many in this war
All I'm saying is even if its common to do in war, the main issue here is why constantly video these things and make it public? It only aids in the negative propaganda

Stomacharmeleon · 25/11/2023 20:07

@Parkingt111 'post at haste, repent at leisure'
I agree this is a PR own goal and I hope they are pulled up about it. It's not on and you know I don't say negative things regularly.
