Can someone please substantiate if this picture is real or is it propaganda?

I have seen some disturbing images recently, but this one is beyond shocking to me. Surely this sort of thing is not happening in 2023?

Apparently the writing is a happy birthday wish to a child.

I cannot obviously read it to know if that's what is truly written.

I don't see any posts claiming it's "okay", "just fine" or "alright then".

As a PP said, people are pointing out that this is neither a new thing nor exclusive to Israel.

Okay so let's say someone posted an atrocity that Hamas did.

And respondents said, it's what humans do.

No condemnation, no horror, no sadness. Just matter of fact, it's happened in history, it's happening now. Not sure why you are shocked, OP.

Would that work?

Just because things are "human" doesn't mean they are right. Joseph's brothers threw him into a well out of jealousy, so do we just meh it if we see someone killing another cus of a small rivalry?

SM is so eye opening in seeing depths people will go to to defend war and genocide. I don't know if that's a good thing. You hope the world you live in, not the politicians and power hungry people in power but ordinary civilians around you are kind and good and all want the same thing. SM has shown that you could be being hanged from a tree in your neighbourhood and people will pass and say, she deserved it, ah its human behaviour, this was always done in past, she had it coming.

Agree and if we teach our children that it is acceptable to, for example, write on bombs sending cruel messages …..then we normalise hate.
We make killing acceptable and generations will be taught it’s acceptable to do so.

ScrollingLeaves · 24/11/2023 11:40

Adding that sort of malevolent wish to a bomb that is already going to kill, suffocate under rubble, burn alive, and maim people, won’t make the bomb worse, but will show up the nasty mind of the person who wrote it.

(If it is not planted propaganda to make Israel look uncivilised.) It certainly does Israel no favours.

I agree with this
It doesn't matter who is doing it why can't we in the context of this war and what is being discussed just say its wrong
The attempts to excuse it is actually worse
It's common knowledge on the extensive death toll and how many civilians are being killed which this bomb could very well land on which makes it even more sickening

Who exactly is saying it's right?

"Attempts to excuse it"?

pickledandpuzzled · 24/11/2023 15:33

Saying ‘it’s very human’ is not at all to say it’s acceptable- just one of the things we men do, nothing new under the sun.

And the bomb is the problem, not the writing. I find it odd to worry about the writing in addition to the bomb.

Cleverestclog · 24/11/2023 15:35

Yes, this!
Providing factual information and historical context isn't accepting, agreeing or condoning anything.

Parkingt111 · 24/11/2023 15:37

@Cleverestclog not yourself in particular

But I find this an attempt at excusing it

Why would this be triggering?

It's writing on a rocket. Nothing compared to the things that other armies and military forces have done in the name of ridding the world of Islamist terrism.

By that definition, I'll ask again - if someone posts about rape /murder/antisemitism /islamophobia/homophobia and someone replies "it's what humans do and have done throughout history" - what does that response imply?

As a follow on - before we can talk about freedom for Palestinians or ceasefire, why has everyone on tv, interviews, mumsnet, and everything else been first asked " do you condemn Hamas" before any conversation can be had?

Is that not the same thing?

Please note, I am not condoning any of those things or say we should not condemn. I'm genuinely interested in a conversation about why acceptability of responses differ based on who is doing the atrocity.

Would it be okay to replace the word islamist terrorism with Christian or Jewish terrorism, in the exact same sentence?

itsmyp4rty · 24/11/2023 15:46

Dragging your children's names into a horrific war to celebrate killing is just sick. So much behaviour on both sides that is just vile.

Toothyfruity · 24/11/2023 15:46

There are some sick people on mumsnet. This is so sad, especially when we all know that Israeli bombardment is killing mostly civilians and thousands of little children. People normalising it is beyond gross.

Cleverestclog · 24/11/2023 15:47

Normalising it?

@Chaitales it's not because of the word Islamist. The whole post is totally dismissive that anything wrong has been done

Unless you agree and think like that too then I don't see the point of us continuing to discuss it

I know. The shrug the shoulders attitude to war is so heartbreaking.

Who is shrugging their shoulders?

Sorry @Parkingt111 if that came across wrong, I'm agreeing with you. I was questioning the attitude of posters in dismissing wrong when it comes to Palestine and Islam vs replacing the exact same sentence with any other faith

BMW6 · 24/11/2023 15:51

I'm horrified by the use and effects of rockets - not at all by any writing on rockets.

Obviously I'm really heartless and unfeeling 🙄

Parkingt111 · 24/11/2023 15:52

@Chaitales thank you for explaining but that wasn't the point I was making
And I'm glad we both agree it's wrong

Chaitales · 24/11/2023 15:53

Cleverestclog · 24/11/2023 15:49

Who is shrugging their shoulders?

I dont know if you are genuine or being deliberately obtuse, but all over this thread the factual attitude to the callous and glorified naming of bombs, including by children, and on MN in general when talking about civilian deaths and nuclear bombs "this is part of war" "casualties happen" "deaths occur to root out evil" "well there was a nuclear bomb in ww2, nothing new" is what I am referring to.

AllWeWantToDo · 24/11/2023 15:54

Why would anyone want to write their name on something that could kill hundreds of people? You'd have to be a really sick person imo

Queucumber · 24/11/2023 15:54

You’re arguing over words written on a bomb. A bomb. Designed to blow up things and people. Engineered to do the most damage possible. And you’re worried about the words on it?

Chaitales · 24/11/2023 15:55

I can see I quoted the wrong post - should have tagged the original post, not your response

I need to get off MN, making too many bloopers today and generally feeling my mental health is going down, seeing the casual dismissal of genocide in people not just politicians.

Freedom for everyone, one day.

I think more about the glee on the bombs - writing callous msgs, teaching children to write messages on machines designed to murder others. This is not military throwing bombs, this is civilians glorifying killing another.
