Can someone please substantiate if this picture is real or is it propaganda?

I have seen some disturbing images recently, but this one is beyond shocking to me. Surely this sort of thing is not happening in 2023?

Apparently the writing is a happy birthday wish to a child.

I cannot obviously read it to know if that's what is truly written.

Why would this be triggering?

It's writing on a rocket. Nothing compared to the things that other armies and military forces have done in the name of ridding the world of Islamist terrism.

This is war.

If you understood the psychological toll October 7 took on people in Israel and the diaspora, you would understand.

We are fighting terrorists. This is an armed conflict.

We're so shielded from this sort of thing in the UK that these things seem shocking to some.

Your side are the oppressors.

basculin · 24/11/2023 18:45

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 24/11/2023 18:44

And before October 7th?
Nelson Mandela was also called a terrorist. Interesting, isn't it, who gets to be called a terrorist.
What or who do you mean qhen you say "we"?

Are you comparing Hamas to Nelson Mandela?

basculin · 24/11/2023 18:46

NotTerfNorCis · 24/11/2023 18:45

Your side are the oppressors.

What side is that?

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 18:47

@Toohardtofindaproperusername so Hamas aren't terrorists?

BorgQueen · 24/11/2023 18:48

It’s standard the world over 🙄
All the bombs my Husband and every other armourer has ever built and loaded onto aircraft during confilcts had messages on them ( from WW1 forward).

It’s not ‘sick’, it’s gallows humour.

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 18:47

@Toohardtofindaproperusername so Hamas aren't terrorists?

I thought they meant the fact that every Palestinian seems to be viewed as a potential terrorist and a viable target.

That doesn't make it right. Is the bomb dropped on Ukraine with a 'humorous' message regarding Eurovision okay as it's gallows humour?
It is sick.

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 18:51

@ChickHenLittle nice try but I don't think that's what they meant. It was obvious what @PurpleChrayne meant and who they were talking about.

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 18:53

@ChickHenLittle it's been happening since ancient civilisation... they used to write ' catch' on slingshots....(the Greeks and the Romans)
Sick bastards.

Chaitales · 24/11/2023 18:55

basculin · 24/11/2023 18:43

Why? You think if someone make a thread saying "is it true that anti-Semitism is happening?" and someone said "anti-Semitism has been happening for thousands of years" that would that be wrong?

Can you seriously not comprehend that stating that something is old and widespread is not the same thing as condoning it?

Oh God. Is everyone just arguing for the sake of arguing now. I'm sorry but you aren't making much sense. I am saying that anything reprehensible or wrong should not be accepted as fact of life just because it has been happening, but rather we all have a responsibility to try to make things better or at the very least, have sympathy.

And I'm being shouted at out of the blue for that. Come on. Can we just be a little respectful

ChickHenLittle · 24/11/2023 18:56

@Stomacharmeleon Just because it's been happening since time immemorial doesn't make it right. I assume if Hamas wrote jovial messages on missiles launched at Israel, it would be equally acceptable?

I wasn't trying anything. Just reading the post instead of jumping on the poster. It is up to them to reply anyway.

You seem to think that anyone who points out that a bad thing has been around for a long time is condoning it. These things should not be facts of life but they are.

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 19:03

@ChickHenLittle they can write what they like on it. It wouldn't really interest me. And I would be shocked if they hadn't.

@Chaitales is it out of the blue? You didn't see that coming after what you wrote?

ChickHenLittle · 24/11/2023 19:08

@Chaitales I think so. If posters can really shrug something off because it's been around for centuries, I'm a little surprised.
There's a mix of wilful ignorance and simply wanting a bunfight on many threads, sadly.

Parkingt111 · 24/11/2023 19:09

I think it's horrible whoever does it.
I really can't see the humorous aspect to it
At all

Indeed. Calling posters sheltered because they don’t like to see people mocking the children they are murdering.

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 19:13

@ChickHenLittle it's hardly 'wilful ignorance' if it's been explained half a dozen times that it's a tradition as old as time.
You mean...they Don't share my opinion and it's making me cross.

Not at all, it doesn't make me cross in the slightest. Surprised sometimes, at the lack of regard for our fellow humans perhaps (although not so much as time goes on).
I wasn't referring to that post in particular, more the sort of "are you saying..." posts when it's either clearly not what a poster meant, or they have to had a chance to clarify before people pile on.

ChickHenLittle · 24/11/2023 19:19

A tradition old as time doesn't make it right, either. I'm glad people didn't just see it as the status quo at times such as when women wanted the vote but didn't yet have it.

basculin · 24/11/2023 19:20

ChickHenLittle · 24/11/2023 18:48

I thought they meant the fact that every Palestinian seems to be viewed as a potential terrorist and a viable target.

That's a generous interpretation. Perhaps @Toohardtofindaproperusername can clarify?

BorgQueen · 24/11/2023 19:23

I forgot that hurty words written on a bomb that obliterates people make it so much more deadly 🙄
I’m sure the Londoners trying to survive the Blitz worried about what was written on the bombs.
God it’s pathetic.

I think you’re missing the point, which is the fact that there is a gleefulness about the fact that the rockets will kill and injure innocent children. If the perpetrator was genuinely trying to defend themselves they would regret the deaths of children or remain neutral and focused. But they’re enjoying it.

QuestionableMouse · 24/11/2023 19:28

I'm fairly sure that the Americans have been doing the same for decades now!

Yep. Something is pathetic, but it's not what the previous poster thinks.
