Conflict in the Middle East

50 hostages will be released

Ohlalalalala · 22/11/2023 05:29

At least a bit of good news in the darkness:

Israel's cabinet has approved a deal with Hamas to secure the release of 50 hostages being held in Gaza.

The hostages will be released over a four-day pause in fighting, a statement from the Israeli prime minister's office says.

Under the deal, the release of every additional 10 hostages will extend the pause in fighting by one day.

The deal was approved by Israel's cabinet after a lengthy meeting that ran into the early hours of Wednesday.

If Ahed Tamimi would live in the UK, she'd also be arrested. Celebrating and calling for the killing of Jews. Attaching soldiers. Leading hate marches. She's no innocent 16 year old girl.
And neither are most of those prisoners that Israel will be releasing.
3 terrorists are being released for every innocent Israeli hostage. How's that for a fair deal?

But they're Palestinian and therefore oppressed and should be supported.

I think that's the argument

Her family says the Instagram post was fake.

Israel rounds up random Palestinian people and incarcerates them for months or years. Including minors. Being Palestinian doesn't make you a terrorist.

@backtowinter Your post made me laugh. What on earth would people who buy Israeli propaganda hook, line and sinker know about truth!

Rehab4rightmove · 22/11/2023 16:16

This thread might have been a positive, hopeful one but it's descended like all the others.

What hope is there for a plan for peace there, if there's this much division here.

I 100% agree with you backtowinter , it’s astonishing to see how posters here refuse to acknowledge that Hamas are the problem!

And any discussion of how problematic some branches of Islam can be (particularly those who require adherence to Sharia law) is instantly shut down or removed.

If you can not discuss the dangers of an ideology then that ideology is dangerous!!

This teenager is also being released. So that's fun.

@queenofarles there are plenty of Hamas and their supporters in the West Bank as well. Not sure why you're suggesting otherwise.

I can't believe the pps decrying the release of Palestinian women and children detained illegally by Israel.

We should all cheer for the release of all hostages from both sides.

For those denying the genocide, here's my thread where you can have the experts opinion on the matter; not mine nor any other randomer on the internet:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/conflict-in-the-middle-east/4948136-a-textbook-case-of-genocide

The Palestinians being released are not hostages. They are prisoners. The Palestinian prisoners weren't abducted during a horrendous massacre where their families were brutally murdered and raped in front of their eyes.

Please provide evidence that they are all terrorists. International jurists are speaking up about Israel's gross human rights violations, particularly with regards to administrative detention. Israel, the only democracy in the ME, are the only country in the world that imprison children. These are hostages.

Got any evidence for this:

I can well believe it was fake. There was something on the news recently about how Israel attempts to influence public opinion by not only creating fake profiles to disseminate false information, but hacks existing accounts.

They are administrative detainees - held indefinitely without any charge. Legally they are more akin to hostages than prisoners. And it's probable that they were abducted in the dark of the night, terrified, and have witnessed multiples massacres. Israel has a horrific human rights record for its detainees.

I was just going to say does that poster realise that Palestinian children are taken from their beds and night, often viciously. They are then tortured and threatened with sexual violence against them or their family of they don't confess, even if they did nothing. If they are eventually taken to military court where there is something like a 99.7% conviction rate, hearings last seconds then they are taken to prison for an average of 3 months.

This isn't arrested in a European sense. This isn't you have a right to an attorney type situation. This is a bundled away in the middle of the night and tortured type of situation where the children are left needing trauma therapy.

queenofarles · 22/11/2023 18:08

Oh believe me it’s not that , this current Israeli government has shown nothing but racism and supremacism , children of light vs children of the dark , calling them animals , threatening with nuclear bombs, planing of mass displacement, carpet bombing of hospitals and schools and civilian buildings.
thousands of children crushed to death under the rubbles , thousands are orphaned .

Did they achieve their goal in destroying Hamas? Did they find the hostages?

No, and No

So why did they keep killing and killing innocent civilians for over a month ? I really want some of you on here to answer this question , why?

"Israel, the only democracy in the ME, are the only country in the world that imprison children"

https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/news/media-centre/press-releases/new-research-reveals-ongoing-violence-on-palestinian-children--

Jason Lee, Save the Children’s Country Director in the occupied Palestinian territory, added: “Each year approximately 500-700 Palestinian children come into contact with the Israeli military court system; they are the only children in the world to experience systematic prosecution in military courts. Our research shows – once again - that they are subject to serious and widespread abuse at the hands of those who are meant to be looking after them.

“There’s simply no justification for beating and stripping children, treating them like animals or robbing them of their futures. This is a child protection crisis that can no longer be ignored. There must finally be an end to this abusive military detention system.”

Many articles like this online. The crimes these children have committed is throwing stones.

Funny how the mass media talk about these kinds of detention only when it happens in N Korea, Iran and the like but not Israel.

Ahmad Manasra was arrested on 12 October 2015 in relation to the stabbing and injury of two Israeli citizens in Pisgat Zeev, an illegal Israeli settlement in occupied East Jerusalem. Despite being found by the courts not to have participated in the stabbings, he was convicted of attempted murder in 2016 in proceedings marred by allegations of torture, and despite the fact that he was below the minimum age of criminal responsibility at the time

For decades, the Israel Security Agency, Israel Prison Service and Israeli security forces have tortured or otherwise ill-treated Palestinian detainees, including children, during arrest, transfer and interrogation. The Israel Security Agency uses particularly harsh methods to obtain information and “confessions”.

In contrast, few Jewish citizens of Israel, including children, are convicted of violence against Palestinians, and those who are arrested are afforded basic rights which are denied to Palestinians.

The information is there but you have to be open to seeing it. The abuse Palestinians have suffered for years at the hands of the Israeli government is appalling. What do you think this does to the children who grow up seeing only injustice and apartheid.

Israel/ OPT: Palestinian prisoner arrested as a child, Ahmad Manasra, still in prison despite worsening mental health

Israeli authorities must immediately release Ahmad Manasra, a 20-year-old Palestinian man who has developed serious mental health problems since his arrest as a child seven years ago, Amnesty International said today. On Sunday 19 June a parole board w...

No obviously that's not fake. I think she's slapped a few soldiers actually. Once for shooting her cousin.

What are people who are constantly harassed by soldiers supposed to do? Her family are activists who protest the stealing of Palestinian land in their locality so they're targeted by Israelis forces.

Is violence only OK when Israelis are committing it? Shooting the cousin is OK but smacking the soldiers isn't? You just expect people to take violence from soldiers day in day out, year in year out and never lash out?

@Rachna83 "In contrast, few Jewish citizens of Israel, including children, are convicted of violence against Palestinians"

You are 100% correct here. The reason why there are way fewer Jewish citizens convicted of violence against Palestinians is because there are a lot less Israeli kids spending their time throwing stones at Palestinians, hence there are way less convictions.

(Not) sorry for ruining your antisemitic and anti-Israel narrative.
