At least a bit of good news in the darkness:

Israel's cabinet has approved a deal with Hamas to secure the release of 50 hostages being held in Gaza.

The hostages will be released over a four-day pause in fighting, a statement from the Israeli prime minister's office says.

Under the deal, the release of every additional 10 hostages will extend the pause in fighting by one day.

The deal was approved by Israel's cabinet after a lengthy meeting that ran into the early hours of Wednesday.

I didn't say only the ones who have been kidnapped are traumatised for life? I'm not sure why you are putting words in my mouth and calling me pathetic but if it makes you feel good about yourself then 🤷🏻‍♀️, I've better things to do than argue with aggressive posters on mumsnet.

Edited

Did I call you pathetic or did I call your wording pathetic? Which it was.

Feel free to answer my question of who the "few" affected children in Israel are. What's your definition of a few?

XRAYTHIS · 23/11/2023 15:54

Wow, I didn't realise. So another terrorist organisation is involved and also Palestinian people.

I didn't know either. I knew that Palestian civilians had crossed the fences and engaged in the violence. That was confirmed by Channel 4 News a while back. But I didn't know they had also taken hostages, and I'd never heard of Islamic Jihad being involved until today.

Parkingt111 · 23/11/2023 16:56

@Fladdermus did the article by any chance mention the source for this: that civilians are holding hostages
I'm asking genuinely as I haven't seen that anywhere and haven't found any credible sources after googling it either.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/11/2023 15:49

@Fladdermus which calls into question the Palestinians are not Hamas narrative.

It absolutely does not. Hamas or otherwise, some Palestinians are terrorists. Not all of them. Not the children.

Fladdermus · 23/11/2023 17:02

Humdingerydoo · 23/11/2023 16:13

I'm surprised to hear Sweden has reported on anything even remotely negative about Palestinians at all 🙈
(I'm Swedish, and my experiences as a Jew in Sweden weren't exactly great - did you read about Malmö stadsbibliotek the other day? It didn't even remotely surprise me)

No I didn't. What happened?

Someone displayed an Arabic copy of Mein Kampf in a display case. That's the level of hatred there.

@Ohlalalalala @feralunderclass

You both asked about numbers of Hamas who have been killed. I know that on October 7th Israel Times reported 1700 Hamas fighters were killed that day. Today I found this graphic, which suggests another 2k approx since that day. I think that's a conservative estimate though, there's also no explanation of who these 2k are, they just haven't been counted in the 15,482 civilians.

Early on I went on the Hamas website and they self reported approx 20,000 'members'. Not sure how accurate that is.

It was the foreign affairs reporter at SVT (Sweden's national public tv station).

@Fladdermus thank you
I don't understand it lol as its in swedish but i can't see a verified source for this so I'm not sure if it's true
Not even on any Israeli news sites reporting that civilians are holding hostages

Bloody hell. That's terrible. How quickly people forget. I knew there has been an increase in hostilities towards jewish people in Malmö over recent years but hadn't realised how bad it was.

He doesn't say where any of his information comes from. I'll see if I can message them and ask.

Parkingt111 · 23/11/2023 19:13

@Stomacharmeleon yes I did see at the start of the war it being mentioned that another group called PIJ were holding some hostages
I don't know much about them if they are an off shoot of Hamas or rivals in Gaza

I read earlier that they sometimes coordinate and work with Hamas, other times they fight each other.

Parkingt111 · 23/11/2023 19:18

@Fladdermus sounds about right

localnotail · 23/11/2023 21:19

I have a horrible feeling this promised hostage release is not going to be straight forward and I'm really worried about hostages. I don't believe Hamas at all. I really hope I'm wrong (((

MindHowYouGoes · 23/11/2023 22:11

backtowinter · 23/11/2023 15:27

@Toothyfruity That post from @localnotail was perfectly factual

I'm not sure why it merited a ride response

Kool aid?? What does that even mean?

A charming turn of phrase referring to members of a cult who drank poisoned kool aid and died.

The poster doesn't know what it means but knows that it's terribly rude.

Ok.

backtowinter · 23/11/2023 22:24

Thanks @MindHowYouGoes

It's a bit of a tik tok type response.

I'm not surprised though

It’s gross that you use it so flippantly. Over 900 people died or don’t you care about that?

It's a turn of phrase, not a comment on the People's Temple.
