At least a bit of good news in the darkness:

Israel's cabinet has approved a deal with Hamas to secure the release of 50 hostages being held in Gaza.

The hostages will be released over a four-day pause in fighting, a statement from the Israeli prime minister's office says.

Under the deal, the release of every additional 10 hostages will extend the pause in fighting by one day.

The deal was approved by Israel's cabinet after a lengthy meeting that ran into the early hours of Wednesday.

I’m glad about the hostages release on both sides ,

They are a democracy and the only one in the middle east
how do you explain the underage Palestinian children in Isreali prisons? One Palestinian girl is 16 , one prisoner is 14.

you can’t just repeat a lie and hope everyone else believes it without questioning it.

Edited

Those in Israeli jails are not hostages they are terrorists. Hamas use children to commit acts of terror. In the UK we lock up many children as well, all countries do it depends on the age of criminal responsibility. We are still a democracy.

Hamas control everything in Gaza, they are the government. Their infrastructure is built under schools and hospitals and camps built and financed by the WHO and UN and Unwra. The collusion between Hamas and these agencies is something that needs to be seriously looked at after the war.

Please provide evidence that they are all terrorists. International jurists are speaking up about Israel's gross human rights violations, particularly with regards to administrative detention. Israel, the only democracy in the ME, are the only country in the world that imprison children. These are hostages.

Ohlalalalala · 22/11/2023 12:43

I can't believe the pps decrying the release of Palestinian women and children detained illegally by Israel.

We should all cheer for the release of all hostages from both sides.

For those denying the genocide, here's my thread where you can have the experts opinion on the matter; not mine nor any other randomer on the internet:

A Textbook Case of Genocide | Mumsnet

It's been very clear from the start that Israel -through rhetoric, tactics, etc.- intended to commit the crime of genocide in Gaza. This is so obvio...

And the UK do not "lock children up" without due process. There are rights, protections, legal routes to follow. The UK does not snatch children off the street and take them to unknown locations, without informing their parents, no access to legal representation, abusing them.... and all of these without even giving a reason! You are a terrorist merely because you are a Palestinian. You have made it clear you also hold this view.

backtowinter · 22/11/2023 12:48

I've seen names and details of some of the Palestinian prisoners (they're not hostages) who are to be swapped with the innocent children that Hamas are holding hostage.

No moral equivalence there

They are often detained because Israel uses children to obtain information. Who are your neighbours, what do they say, work for us or else we will arrest your father/demolish your home/revoke your father's work permit.
A civil, democratic state interrogates children to intimidate, harm and info gather on adults

Yeah they've been condemned for years by many civil organizations, but unfortunately nothing is changed 😔

You think this is Generous ? you have no feelings towards the innocent Civilians and how this ceasefire might be a step forward towards an end to the ongoing killings ?

I can’t believe how heartless some people could be.

And in case anyone is interested this is what Politico magazine said ;
senior administration official said. And there was some concern in the administration about an unintended consequence of the pause: that it would allow journalists broader access to Gaza and the opportunity to further illuminate the devastation there and turn public opinion on Israel.
the Biden administration is now concerned about journalists getting into Gaza and seeing the destruction . they don’t want people to see the real unedited damage .

@queenofarles the thing is whilst I agree with you at an individual level and in every personal emotion I feel for helpless and innocent people caught up in destruction like this, the world leaders have the bigger task of understanding that the possibility of peace and our own privilege of living in relative security has and will always be dependent on power and to an extent war and the necessity of standing up to those who's values are at an odds with our own. That's the sad reality of human nature, as hard as it is to accept.

They put innocent children in prison all the time just for throwing stones or having mental health issues. They are not terrorists. You need to unlearn the racism that has been parrots to you.

Are Israeli children that have to do nation service terrorists? As they will be weaponised to commit acts of terror by the state of Israel.

Ayelet Shaked ,: After we turn Khan Younis into a soccer field…we need to take advantage of the destruction to tell the countries that each of them should take a quota, it can be 20K or 50K. We need all 2 million to leave. That's the solution for Gaza"

that is not the thinking of a normal democratic government .

Were they stopped mid being forced out of their homes or shot for playing with their scooter in the street when an apparent unbiased surveyor came round to take this innocent poll?

Toothyfruity · 22/11/2023 14:10

@SeulementUneFois I can see how they might support the only group who may appear to be defending them at the moment whilst they are being mercilessly bombed in their beds and the entire world does nothing.

All the people talking about how Hamas can't be done away with and how the current bombardment is only going to create new terrorists? This is exactly what they're talking about.

And saying Palestine is Hamas is disgusting and frankly is calling for genocide. If you want to end Hamas and Hamas is Palestine? I have no words any more for the vitriol on these boards.

100%.

In fact, the UN General Assembly passed more resolutions critical of Israel than against all other nations combined in 2022!

It does not accept or abide by international humanitarian laws, consistently ignoring countless UN resolutions, and works outside the parameters set by the UN.

And then complains that it's unfairly targeted!

Anyone remembers Ahed Tamimi? She was 16 years old when she was arrested , and she’s from the West Bank not Gaza, West Bank has zero affiliation with Hamas.

Is that a girl who attacked a soldier, was rightfully arrested, then was released and re-arrested recently after she posted some horrendous pro-Hamas stuff online - something about killing Jews and eating their sculls? Charming.
