Why, despite irrefutable evidence of the horrors that are happening on an daily basis in Gaza, some people are still excusing/ agreeing with what the Israeli government and the IDF are doing?
I cannot comprehend it.

The impression I get is that the Israeli government are not held in high esteem actually (some pro Israel posters will happily admit they are part of the problem) however they feel that Israel must do what is necessary to get rid Hamas. Ultimately they tend to blame Hamas for civilian deaths.

In the west there is prejudice against Muslims as demonstrated by our recent PM Johnson, and also towards people of colour. I think this is why people in the west accept the killing of civilians in such large numbers.

Artwhatttt · 20/11/2023 22:49

I have been on here the last week or so discussing this quite a bit. I can only really count on one hand the amount of pro Israel posters so I don’t think it’s very common.

Everyone in real life is absolutely disgusted by this. And I don’t live in a bubble. I have friends and family across all classes, all sectors and all political affiliations. I am proud to say I have a 100% track record on predicting elections and am good at reading the zeitgeist.

  1. The Hamas attack.
  2. The fact that Hamas will not stop and will not negotiate.
What do you want Israel to do in these circumstances?
Reallifelurker · 20/11/2023 23:25

There's very little defence of the Israeli government on here - it's very much deflection - because let's face it anyone with half a brain can see that the last 75 years have shown that Israel want to actively prevent the self determination of Palestinians

Woe betide you if you try and point out that years of instability and mistreatment are what allowed Hamas to flourish or that the Israeli government allowed them to remain in Gaza because it thought they were under control.
I’ve been flamed for less.

Could you get rid of your prime minister?
There must be a way.

I think on your second point you meant to say Israel. They're the ones who won't stop and won't negotiate.

Op I think internationally a lot of it comes down to Islamophobia and brown-nosing America. I agree that most people recognise that the mass murder of children and civilians is wrong but our leaders aren't in touch with that. Or rather they're doing the wrong thing to protect certain interests. Basically the Palestinians don't have any friends in high places so nobody cares.

I can't give my opinion on some of the pro-Israeli posts or mumsnet will delete my post. Not because I'd say anything nasty by the way.

GingerRedBull · 20/11/2023 23:30

Hamas want to destroy Israel. Hamas broke a ceasefire with a horrific pogrom.

What, exactly, do you think Israel should do in the face of a group that wants to eradicate all Jews from Israel?

If only there was any other option other than murdering 13000 civilians. Such a shame!

Get real. Trapping millions of people into a tiny area, denying them food, water and basic necessities whilst bombing the living shit out of them isn't normal. It's deranged.

And of course you ignore the oppression of Palestinians for the past 60 or so years.

WomanHereHear · 20/11/2023 23:36

Because there’s always a justification for murdering thousands of people who you say aren’t like you, you perceive to be lower than you, the people who do this always tell people they are more civilised and therefore it’s okay to wipe those uncivilised ones out. Collateral damage is fine when you see these people as beneath you. And it helps having powerful governments on your “side” and want you to “win”.

GingerRedBull · 20/11/2023 23:37

Ah yes the poor Palestinians. It's so great the the Ummah is stepping up for them, isn't it? Opening their doors. Providing succour.

Oh no wait...

Where's the lie? Who is offering asylum to Palestinians? Egypt, which has an actual border with them? Jordan, whose country they were once part of?

Thanks to Hamas, nobody wants them.

  1. No excuse to kill an entire population
  2. Stop the war crimes.
  3. what’s the Israeli excuse for the West Bank ethnic cleansing ? No Hamas there.
This didn’t start on Oct 07, this started 75 years ago.
Intelligenthair · 20/11/2023 23:43

@GingerRedBull genuine question then - when do you think Israel should stop?

And Israel wants to take the whole of Palestine including the West Bank and Gaza killing everyone in its path.

How can they stop? When Hamas have explicitly said that they will regroup and reattack?

GingerRedBull · 20/11/2023 23:46

Livinginanotherworld · 20/11/2023 23:45

But they weren't doing that, were they?

Livinginanotherworld · 20/11/2023 23:50

GingerRedBull · 20/11/2023 23:46

It’s exactly what they are doing and what they planned for all along. The world is now seeing Israel for what they are, evil war criminals.

Toothyfruity · 20/11/2023 23:52

Well. This thread has turned hateful. There are some disgusting individuals on here. Presumably mothers too 🤢

Reallifelurker · 20/11/2023 23:53

Jordan, whose country they were once part of?
Palestine (as was) was never a part of Jordan.
