and back Israel's bombing of Gaza.

Are they racist?

OP posts:
MajesticWhine · 09/11/2023 23:27

Like Keir Starmer? Um probably not.

Inauthentic · 09/11/2023 23:38

Agree. Keir Starmer is an opportunist.
An empty vessel.

OP posts:

Against Muslims you mean?

Some of them, probably.

Ballsbaill · 09/11/2023 23:47

I'm not sure why it's any of our business.

Does it also bother you that human rights abuses are still being committed in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region more than 10 months after a ceasefire?

All the 'what about Sudan, China, ME, Ethiopia?' people? You can start a thread. Easily.

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 10/11/2023 00:07

Are those who support a ceasefire racist? Do they want to stop Israel defending itself? Do they want the Jewish homeland, and Jews, to be easier targets for racist terrorist maniacs?

Tricky stuff, OP, tricky stuff.

No, his wife is a Jew so he will be thinking on different lines.

As for him being an empty vessel. No, he isn't. Listen to the podcast with him. He will surprise you.

Decent, quiet man who has a lot more behind him than you think.

Prove me wrong and listen to it as rare people do who are asked to look at something.

What do you think 'supporting a ceasefire' will actually achieve?

Do you think that if every person in the uk' called for a ceasefire' it would make a scrap of difference to anything?

I don't know how we have all got sucked in to this narrative!

I hate that people, children are dying in Gaza, I hate that people, children have died/are dying in Israel!

Whether, me, Kier Starmer, Rishi Sunak, the King, all of jump up & down & demand a ceasefire won't change a single thing!

So no I don't think it's racist!

Tricky stuff, OP, tricky stuff.

Some of those who support a ceasefire probably are racist.

This emotive, one-sided, ad hominem stuff is getting wearing.

Adults need to stop soundbite, divisive 'goodies and baddies' shit and work out a difficult solution. Politics has become more and more polarised and divisive. Not just on this issue.

It's CLEAR that the attacks on 7th October were brutal and indefensible but have antecedents. It's CLEAR that the current attacks on Gaza are brutal and indefensible but have antecedents. Understanding the antecedents is adult and is NOT the same as excusing the actions.

People who hate Jews and people who hate Muslims (and many people who hate both) are fanning the flames and laughing.

A ceasefire is right because thousands of children aren't 'collateral'. But with the right wing psychos on one 'side' and Hamas and their backers on the other, the rest of the world needs to support neither of them with anything other than humanitarian aid and support for cooperation and democratic process. The only 'side' anyone should be on is peace, children, non-combatants and equity.

Smugandproud · 10/11/2023 00:36

There won't be a ceasefire whilst Hamas have Jewish hostages so what would be the point of supporting one.
Hamas need to return the hostages now, all of them and then Israel won't need to bomb civilians because they'll flood all of the tunnels and capture the terrorists as they leave.
It's in Hamas' hands.

People that chant "from the river to the sea..." are they antisemitic? See how that works OP?

I’m not sure you’ve said anything in that post that disputes the likelihood that calls for a ceasefire are intended to hobble Israel from defending itself and ridding the region of a racist death cult sponsored by Iran. But there you go.

Inauthentic · 10/11/2023 00:56

Yes, I mean against Muslim.

I dont mean politicians, I mean an Average Joe

People who support bombing of Gaza perceive Palestinian life as less valuable.
But why?

I was atounded by lack of empathy, here on Mumsnet, by significant minority of posters.

And that made me think how much of being in support of bombing is driven by being racist?
Clearly, you don't value all human lives equally.

OP posts:
shoeawsome · 10/11/2023 01:00

But just because I as a person on the street am not calling for a ceasefire isn't because I support the bombing or because I'm racist!

It's because me calling for a ceasefire won't make a blooming bit of difference to anything!

Why are you simplifying matters by saying people are supporting bombing and therefore they are racist?

I look at him and see the man who doesn't know what a woman.is but does know that
women can have penises.
How can anyone take this fool seriously?

He knows, he just plays the game because he wants to be pm one day.

noblegiraffe · 10/11/2023 01:36

Right, so I call for a ceasefire from Israel, Israel agree and unilaterally stop bombing Gaza. Wonderful.

Except Hamas have now got away with that hideous terrorist attack, they regroup, plan and execute another one. More rape and torture and murdering of Israelis, men women and children again and again and again - as they have stated they will do.

Is that what I wanted when I called for a ceasefire? Well it's what I got.

It's the trolley problem, are you going to switch tracks from killing one lot of people to the other track which will result in the deaths of others?

Some people are very certain that they would switch tracks. Perhaps they haven't considered that the other people would die as a result of their decision.

What are the other options that address both groups of people on the tracks?

What does his wife's religion have to do with anything?

RudsyFarmer · 10/11/2023 07:35

People who ask stupid questions on message boards in the hope of stoking up drama. Are they bored?

Humdingerydoo · 10/11/2023 07:35

@Inauthentic
No, not racist. Just people who can see why Israel might deem it necessary to get rid of terrorists once and for all though. And anyway, I thought it had been established on previous threads that it's not just Muslims in Gaza?

Are you racist?

Tricky stuff, OP, tricky stuff.

I saw Jews being interviewed on TV, protesting against israel saying it goes against their religion. It's zionism that's the problem.

Very young ones being imprisoned for refuung to serve in the IDF? An israel Jewish women who was Interviewed by Owen Jones was truly eye opening. Tricky stuff indeed. Maybe if peace and love was taught over hate and war then things be different. Tricky stuff indeed

Other countries also send you to prison if you refuse to join the army. Like Sweden, for example. It's really not that unusual. I'm just pointing it out so that you don't think that's unique to Israel. I also had a friend who fled Turkey to avoid joining the army. He said he hadn't been able to go back and visit his family as a result as he'd be sent to prison. This is just what he said though, I haven't verified if it's accurate
