How can we trust anything the IDF say when they are still incredulously stating there isn't even a humanitarian crisis in Gaza?

Itllbefine6 · 13/11/2023 09:23

Parkingt111 · 13/11/2023 09:15

@Itllbefine6 I don't know what your views are, but at this point it's very clear that the IDF are taking either none or at best very little care in avoiding civilian casualties. There's only so far Israel can carry on shouting 'human shields'
There are some very real concerns in the way Israel has conducted this war and is continuing to do so. I hope Netanyahu is prosecuted

My view is something like, both things are true at the same time - Hamas don't care about Gazans at best, and use them as human shields, at worst. Israel also doesn't care, at best, sees them all as terrorists deserving of death, at worse. This is what happens when terrorists get into power - the people of the area they run end up essentially stateless, and suffer more than the group the terrorists promised to protect them from.

I think many agree to an extent, that Hamas is more focused on winning the war than caring how many civilians die.
But some people will then use that to excuse that Israel doesn't or shouldn't care either (not aiming it at you) That's what I have an issue with. Because that leads to less accountability. And less accountability means an increase in unjustified aggression

silentpool · 13/11/2023 10:10

All these people nailing their colours to a mast publically are getting tiresome. My views are private.

Calls for ceasefire increasing around the world
The below is quite significant. Biden has no handle on the situation

One hundred US government officials from the state department and international development agency have signed an internal memo criticizing the White House for “disregarding the lives of Palestinians” and for showing an “unwillingness to de-escalate” in the Israel-Hamas war.

I know it’s late tonight. But if you’ve not done it please do it if you want a ceasefire

No love lost here but I’m surprised at this. I guess we’ll see if it holds out

Parkingt111 · 14/11/2023 21:44

I'm not too knowledgeable with politics but why would he sack them because they have a different opinion on the matter? Is it because it would undermine his leadership of the party? Is this something that is usually done in other scenarios too?

SomeCatFromJapan · 14/11/2023 21:46

@Parkingt111 yes it's called a three-line whip, it's used for important votes and going against it has severe consequences like being expelled from the party.

Parkingt111 · 14/11/2023 21:49

@SomeCatFromJapan thank you I didn't know that. I think I should do some reading up on it
It will be interesting to see if he follows through and does sack anyone who does (if they do)

SomeCatFromJapan · 14/11/2023 21:51

@Parkingt111 the workings of UK parliament are fascinating! Often really obscure and archiac. I'm certainly no expert though.

Stomacharmeleon · 14/11/2023 22:35

Sometimes they get a free vote (no whip) for things like moral issues eg abortion but this will not be one of them

EasterIssland · 14/11/2023 23:59

Not sure whether it’s any labour mp or only those on the shadow cabinet. My mp is In the shadow so let’s see what she votes. I’ve seen many labour mps in twitter saying they’ll vote in favour of a ceasefire. Hopefully some Tory mps vote as well tho I’ve not as much faith

Ridiculous.

It’s quite clear Hamas are using the hospital patients as a human shield IDF is inside the hospital fighting room to room against the terrorists. If Hamas had wanted to protect civilians they would not have used the hospital as a military base.
Hamas doesn’t care about civilian deaths they are fanatics willing to fight to the last Palestinian, there is no future with Hamas in Gaza, if the war stops they will simply rearm and attack Israel again.

Just watching the news. Hamas are actually in the hospital and in the tunnels underneath. The US has confirmed and Israel forces are currently going through the hospital to try to defeat Hamas.

What do you think 'supporting a ceasefire' will actually achieve?

Do you think that if every person in the uk' called for a ceasefire' it would make a scrap of difference to anything?

I don't know how we have all got sucked in to this narrative!

I hate that people, children are dying in Gaza, I hate that people, children have died/are dying in Israel!

Whether, me, Kier Starmer, Rishi Sunak, the King, all of jump up & down & demand a ceasefire won't change a single thing!

So no I don't think it's racist!

The more people including politicians who jump up and down demanding a ceasefire the more chance we have of changing the narrative. Bad things are done because good people do nothing ! Your governments represent you ! Governments can put pressure on Israel (and sanctions) to stop this genocide. Don’t think that nothing can be done, the world needs to fight back. And that includes all of us.

If you support the genocide you are not only racist, you are a war crimes apologist. Anyone not calling for a ceasefire…..SHAME ON YOU !

I believe this just like I believed the WMD !
Doctors have stated there is no Hamas headquarters in Al Shifa, they have invited people in to actually see for themselves. It’s very funny how the first thing IDF did upon entering the hospital was to round up all the reporters and hold them separately, they don’t want anyone to see what they haven’t found do they ! Think about this critically and don’t just take for granted what the Israeli/US government tells you.

Crazykatie · 15/11/2023 13:38

So Hamas don’t exist just like WMD, the attack on Israel didn’t happen, nobody launched rockets into Israel it was all imagined.
Anyone who believes that has a real problem, there will be no peace while Hamas uses Gaza as a base to attack Israel, once Gaza is demilitarized and a peaceful administration takes power in Gaza conditions will improve.

Did you read my post ? Are you putting words into my mouth ?

Stomacharmeleon · 15/11/2023 16:31

@Livinginanotherworld the doctors that have taken a Hippocratic oath to protect people who live in the same vicinity as terrorists who murder people? Can't think why they might lie on news.

Parkingt111 · 15/11/2023 19:27

So did they quit because they knew they were going to get fired? But they still get a vote?

Seems like it. My mp belongs to the shadow cabinet and hasn’t posted anything so I’ve got the feeling she’s going to vote against it. I’ve never liked her and this will make me like her even less

and annoyingly I can’t even vote her out in the general elections as I’m not british so I can’t vote 🤦🏻‍♀️
