Stop this insanity

This has to stop. No debates about which side is right or wrong. Come on people no one with any shred of humanity can surely say what is happening in Gaza right now is ok under ANY justification. I’m absolutely heartbroken to see the world just watching and doing nothing. And getting angrier by the day. I’m in Ireland and thank god our government is calling for what’s right. But they are not doing enough. No one is. There is no politics or background or religion or any moral reason on this planet that makes what’s happening ok. If you think so I think that’s appalling. Each individual needs to do something to say NO to this slaughter, aside from what beliefs you hold about who the ‘good and bad guys’ are.

I can't do anything to stop a terrorist who wants to annihilate Jews change his mind. I also can't influence the Israeli government in how they respond. What exactly do you think we should be doing as individuals?

EasterIssland · 25/10/2023 17:13

Luckily more and more governments are speaking against Israel’s actions
and so organisations look at what has happened with UN
unfortunately, the west will just look to the other side and let Israel do whatever they want because they’re ashamed about what they did during holocaust so they won’t raise enough their voice to tell Israel’s PM enough , stop killing innocent people

Zzbutton · 25/10/2023 17:32

@Notcookie
You surely can’t be implying that you’re ok to just sit back and watch this atrocity unfold so I will assume you were genuine in asking what you can do? For one write/email to local government representatives urging them to use their influence, especially at EU level, to call for an immediate end to the bombing and allow humanitarian aid in. The UN needs to act and we all play a part of turning a blind eye if we stay quiet.

Completely agree. All those poor, innocent people (on both sides). It's utterly heartbreaking 💔

ssd · 25/10/2023 17:36

It absolutely needs to stop. 1.4 million people displaced in Gaza according to the UN. Hostages still being kept hidden and the families in utter turmoil.

It needs to stop.

FOJN · 25/10/2023 17:40

It is insanity. I feel like I'm watching the world lose its mind. There are so many political players who seem to be agitating for war. There are threats being thrown around by people who don't seem to care where they lead and the people calling for de-escalation are not important enough to be listened to.

We already knows this ends with thousands of people in Gaza pointlessly being killed but if the people in power don't get their shit together soon it could be many more countries involved and all the loss of life that will entail.

ssd · 25/10/2023 17:43

I just genuinely feel utterly helpless to do anything at all about this, other to donate what i can. It reminds me of the saying for evil to persist it takes good men to do nothing. Or words to that effect. I guess writing to my MP is all i can do.

CheshireCat1 · 25/10/2023 17:47

This madness has got to stop.

Zzbutton · 25/10/2023 17:47

@ssd its exactly how I feel. Utterly helpless to the point of almost saying shur what’s the point of even doing those small things I can. But that saying keeps playing in my head too and I follow my conscience to follow through with the little steps 😢

OP posts:
SeulementUneFois · 25/10/2023 17:51

Have you seen the Hamas posts on telegram boasting and showing videos of their atrocities?
Or do you like the queen of Jordan OP don't believe that to be true?

Or do you just not give a fuck about the hostages being tortured right now , about the women and girls amongst them who've been gang raped for weeks now, just because they're Jews?

I didn't see you making a post when that happened. Nor disagreeing with the Hamas "hero" boasting to his parents that he killed 10 Jews with his bare hands.

Like him, the majority of Palestine voted for Hamas and support them in their goal of complete eradication of all Jews.
But that's no skin off your nose.

TakeMe2Insanity · 25/10/2023 17:53

It needs to stop. It’s not the 2ww with a correspondent writing a description of what has happened and then we’d get
the news days or weeks later. We are seeing everything almost live, in real time. The trauma of the survivors is just awful. How do you get past your entire family dying?

Edited

The UN needs to act? To do what? Historically they don't do much.

The United Nations has failed to prevent war and fulfill peacekeeping duties many times since its creation.

To name a few:

Rwanda in 1990 to 1994 - the worst ethnic genocides since World War II I believe. The UN did very little.

Cambodia 1975 to 1979
After the end of the Vietnam War and the Cambodian civil war in 1975, the Khmer Rouge regime took control of Cambodia and then carried out genocide killing two million people. The United Nations recognised the Khmer Rouge regime, and ignored human rights violations!

Iraq 2003-2011
More than one million Iraqis have died as a result of the conflict in their country since the west invaded. The UN attempted to legitimise it under the false assertion by the US and the UK that Saddam had Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Srebrenca
the UN failed both to demilitarise the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to force withdrawal. Town captured and a subsequent massacre.

It goes on

Syria
Kashmir
South Sudan
Yemen
Darfur

And many many more examples of UN failures into atrocities.

Honestly OP what do you want? Go on a plane and fix it yourself?

aswarmofmidges · 25/10/2023 17:59

I understand that the majority of Palestinians were not born when Hamas was voted in so I doubt the majority voted for them

And it doesn't matter that Hamas do bad things if Israel are also doing bad things

both sides have been doing bad things for decades now , yet still seem to think that if they could just do enough violence it would solve everything

If 2 kids are beating each other up in the playground no one cares who started it

Itrymybestyesido · 25/10/2023 18:01

I'm very sad to say that this is how the world operates. It's all about wealth and resource and this sort of thing has gone on for hundreds of years. Governments sit back and watch because resources/money/wealth all come before people. It's sickening.

Zzbutton · 25/10/2023 18:10

@SeulementUneFois I care about all of that. I have compassion for all humans, but as I said on my original post above, whoever we feel is right or wrong this ongoing campaign is happening right now right in front of us and there can be no justification in our world for us to be ok with it. None.

When are you going out there to stop it yourself. You make bold, heated statements but haven't suggested one effective strategy to stop it. Even the UN historically fails at their job on a global scale.

I'm all ears.

Notaflippinclue · 25/10/2023 18:16

Give up the hostages, Palestinians give up Hamas, Israel will stop.

israel will stop.
wishful thinking
they’ve said they won’t give the fuel back even when all hostages are handed back. Community punishment

aswarmofmidges · 25/10/2023 18:18

Palestinians probably can't give Israel Hamas and more than Israel can get them

Israel does have a history of making impossible demands on Palestine

Just stop

Zzbutton · 25/10/2023 18:21

@ShellySarah heated statements?
I am trying to express my heartfelt sympathy for people suffering right now and I’m not here to say either side is right or wrong. Only to say the things that are happening right now in Gaza are heinous. As a pp said two wrongs don’t make a right. Tonight I just choose peace and compassion. For all.

OP posts:
PinkTonic · 25/10/2023 18:22

I assume the couple of thousand of them that joined Hamas in their depraved and murderous rampage were definitely not born then but it’s clear they’re fully on board and aligned with the objective and the method.

Yes heated statements.

For example:

Pretty heated.

Did you do the same and are you doing the same for all the other wars and genocides on a global scale, historically and also happening right now or just this one?

My mum is literally dying. She is probably weeks from death. I'm having to sort her house out alongside a demanding career and my own issues.

There is nothing I can do about conflict in the middle east and I have bigger things to worry me. So do most.

Zzbutton · 25/10/2023 18:34

@ShellySarah sorry to hear your mum is so unwell and dying x I hope you will be ok during this tough time

This unfortunately. And it hasn't been happening for hundreds of years but all of human existence. All you can do is try and spread as much kindness as possible as an individual to offset some of the absolute horror of which human beings are capable.
