This has to stop. No debates about which side is right or wrong. Come on people no one with any shred of humanity can surely say what is happening in Gaza right now is ok under ANY justification. I’m absolutely heartbroken to see the world just watching and doing nothing. And getting angrier by the day. I’m in Ireland and thank god our government is calling for what’s right. But they are not doing enough. No one is. There is no politics or background or religion or any moral reason on this planet that makes what’s happening ok. If you think so I think that’s appalling. Each individual needs to do something to say NO to this slaughter, aside from what beliefs you hold about who the ‘good and bad guys’ are.

Well, no. So why didn't they? I was trying to be charitable.

Maybe you should go ask the thousands of Jewish protestors in NYC why they are protesting against Israels genocide?
They have an Instagram page Jewish voice for peace
You can contact them there

Ignore him
He made his feelings on palestinians quite clear last night. And it wasn't pleasant how he views them

I was referring to Hamas and their Gazan supporters who enthusiastically joined the attacks on 7 October. Please don't put words in my mouth about Palestinians in general.

I would imagine scared of Hamas since they oppress Palestinians along with the Israeli government.

Perhaps also the fact that even before now, the majority (around 80%) relied on humanitarian aid to survive, probably leaving them little time to organise large scale protests. Add to that, the terror of knowing that any response from the Israeli government would be disproportionate and indiscriminately kill most of them. In that situation, I wouldn't be picking up a placard (if I could even get the materials to make one), I'd be terrified and trying to get out of Gaza if at all possible.

Yes, I appreciate that. What about elsewhere in the world?

I don't have a TV, so don't watch the news...

ChickHenLittle · 28/10/2023 10:54

You have Internet access, I don't watch the news on TV either. I'm sure you can conduct your own research.

Well, I've looked and only found Palestinian celebrations of the 7 October attacks. But internet searches only offer potentially biased snapshots; I wondered if you were aware of any Palestinians declaring "Not in my name!" etc anywhere in response to the 7 October attacks, equivalent to this Jewish demo. As you've both pointed out, it would be perfectly safe to do so outside Gaza.

Just thought I'd repost the OP to steer us back to the original sentiment of the thread.

I'm lighting a candle for all those suffering.

It's all so unimaginably horrific. Those poor poor children.

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 13/11/2023 16:30

It's getting so much worse hour by hour in Gaza. It's barbaric. Any government that purposefully does this to trapped, innocent people should be ousted and imprisoned.

Why are the international community now ignoring this?

Zzbutton · 13/11/2023 18:23

It is beyond belief that this is still going on. There is a massive public outcry and I’ve never seen such lack of regard by so many governments as to what their people’s wishes are. Keep the faith and keep pushing for our voices to be heard that WE DO NOT SUPPORT what is happening.

OP posts:
RubyRubyRubyRubay · 13/11/2023 19:11

The UK and American governments are turning a blind eye to it.

How can we spend the weekend saying 'never again' when it IS happening again?

Al Jazeera seem to be the only station reporting properly the horror of the Israeli's disgusting attacks.

The Israeli government have no humanity.

It's a global disgrace on everybody that this is continuing.

I'm so angry and I don't know what to do with my anger.

Zzbutton · 13/11/2023 19:41

@RubyRubyRubyRubay I feel the same. The rage of feeling helpless at atrocious events happening in front of our eyes. I combat it by doing something small every day - email local representatives, boost awareness through social media, making people aware of fundraisers and marches. The tide of opinion is turning, let’s all keep doing whatever we can however small.

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 13/11/2023 19:59

You're right @Zzbutton - doing something is the only way to stop the feeling of helplessness. I think I might join the march this Saturday - I haven't marched since anti-apartheid but this is so so important.

I saw this guy speak for the first time an hour ago - I feel inspired by his vigour and determination for love and peace (pre-warning though that the news item picture is very disturbing for the first 15 seconds):

Cornel West speaks to Al Jazeera on war in Gaza

What are people supposed to do?

People and countries get told off for not getting involved and then when they do get involved they get told off for making things worse.

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 13/11/2023 20:12

The only involvement should be that of conflict resolution. Peace talks, de-escalation, problem solving and reaching a consensus for all parties.

We should not be supporting or arming anyone that seeks to harm others.

A utopia some might say, but it's what the human civilisation should be aiming for now. We have seen enough and learnt enough surely by now.

There has been too much death.

More death will only create more resentment, more hate, more anger, more extremism and further violence. We should know by now that it is never the answer.

MushMonster · 14/11/2023 07:55

I am with you ZZbutton!
Ceasefire, allow for hospitals to get supplies, power, send in humanitarian aid.
Then put pressure on both sides to sit down and get to a final peace agreement, once and for all. And implement it. Forever! And let the poor civilians finally be able to build a life and live in peace.
I, though, have seen this very same problem happening over and over and I have lost my faith on them ever putting the lives of their population above their own ideas.

MushMonster · 28/11/2023 07:20

Some good news these days. Cease fire extended, people released from both sides.
I hope it continues.

CarrotCake01 · 28/11/2023 07:58

I feel you OP. Its 2023, the technology and information we have access to now is like we're living in a Sci fi movie!
And yet there are still horrific things happening elsewhere in the world. And its baffling to me. We need to let go of whose ancestors did what and fights from decades ago. Surely that's obvious. The things that are happening over there are just absolutely disgusting and inhumane. It's devastating to me that this is still the world we live in.

It is a lovely thought that we could stop the violence somehow, but I agree with some of the other posts. I don't realistically see what we can do. It's not really our place or our business. They're not going to stop because some women from mumsnet are upset or offended.

Realistically what COULD we do that would effect anything over there without more people dying or putting more targets on backs?

MushMonster · 28/11/2023 22:14

Nothing we can do about it, in practical terms. Neither I think the West and USA should get themselves involved. We have enough consequences of the time wars mantained abroad, one after the other, to deal with. And enough internal problems.

But we can always rejoice on them finding some glimmer of hope for a permanent ceasefire.

What do you mean with the targets on backs comment?
