Hello thread!

CaveMum · 15/06/2010 20:23

Yay Aries!

Oooo, a shiny, spacious thread. Like what you've done with the place Aries, any particular inspiration you've taken?!

[hands out the chocolate cake and wine, lemonade on offer for those on 2ww]

saltyair · 15/06/2010 20:27

So what's the story morning glory-aries is there any gin?

Can I do random symptom spotting? I've got a good one!!

zippys · 15/06/2010 20:37

Ooh lovely new thread. (settles into new home)

Love the title and well done on doing new thread. Let it bring lots of bfp's

haloflo · 15/06/2010 20:37

Hello, just popping in to say hello on the new thread. Excellent name aires and it was definatly your turn after the last thread incident (sorry if you didn't want to be reminded on the first page!)

More weirdness from my body today as ERTD hasn't arrived but cramps and spotting continue. I wish it would either arrive so I could get on with the next cycle or would stop so I can live in hope that i'm pg. This inbetween status is driving me mad.

cavemum I'm thinking of you, I hope you are ok.

kaloki Sorry ERTD arrived, I hope the next cycle brings more luck.

saltyair There's always sympton spotting in this thread. Tell us more!

Ariesgirl · 15/06/2010 20:39

Well Agnus Cactus as it was being called was my inspiration, chiefly. I started this lark with the firm belief that it would get me pregnant instantly. It started to dawn on me a couple of months in that planned shagging, charts, and more shagging might play a role as well. However I haven't yet gone down the chart route, mainly because I'm too disorganised and I also blame my cat. She wakes me at 5.45 every morning - I stumble down and shove some food on a plate and go straight back to sleep again. (Which I figure is good practice. Isn't it?) But by that time it's too late for temp taking. Sigh. And the misspellings of Agnyss started amusing me and when someone said they'd eaten some cactus...well!

saltyair · 15/06/2010 20:45

My latest great symptom?

Having my period. Oh yes. And you know what flashed through my mind?

takes deep breath Sonia, from Eastenders. The Moon faced one who had the baybee on the bathroom having not realised she was preggers.

And why didn't she realise? Because, my friends, SHE HAD PERIODS.

I am going actually insane.

Ariesgirl · 15/06/2010 20:53

Yes but Salty she was fifteen. And ergo thick. And I suspect they weren't proper periods, just red dribbles. WHY AM I JOINING IN THIS CONVERSATION? SHE'S A CHARACTER IN A SOAP OPERA!

Our friend Headbanger jumped to the conclusion that she must be up the duff whilst cleaning her teeth because her gums were bleeding. And that, my friends, is a Symptom. All this was while she was having a periods also.

CaveMum · 15/06/2010 21:06

Aries bless your cat, mine is the same! She usually wakes me at about 3.30am and promptly gets chucked out if the bedroom. As soon as my alarm goes off at 6.35am she's at my door demanding to be let in!
As you say, I'm pretty sure it is good practise for when babies come along!

saltyair that's not as insane as you may think, I've heard worse!

haloflo and Aries, and others, thanks for the messages of support it means a lot. I'm still getting my head round things. DH says it is not 100% definite at the moment so I shouldn't get too upset. At least it is better than the last time he went away - they gave us 3 weeks notice before sending him to the Falklands for 4 months and he actually ended staying for 7 months!

DH thinks there is no need to put our baby plans on hold and that we should continue as planned. I know the likelyhood of falling pregnant right away is small but knowing my luck it would happen and I'd end up dealing with the whole pregnancy and birth on my own!

I know this is not the end of the world, plenty of other people gave dealt with the same. But I had this whole ideal of us doing everything together like normal people! I'd also worry that he'd have problems bonding with a child that is suddenly thrust upon him rather than one that he has 'got to know' through scans, antenatal classes etc.

God, I really don't know what to do!!!

[reaches for the wine]

Ariesgirl · 15/06/2010 21:23

I wouldn't worry about him bonding. He'll know it's his child and love it and look forward SO MUCH to meeting it. Think about how many soldiers in WW2 who were away for years who came home to children they'd not met before. And it's only recently that men have become remotely involved in scans and childbirth etc. It's still very hard for you, I'm not saying it isn't. But I don't think you need worry about that particular worry. This is coming out all wrong!

alien82 · 15/06/2010 21:27

hey everyone,
I would like to join the list, but no idea what all the lingo is lol. Basically I am having my Mirena removed tomoz and am really scared, nervous etc and want somewhere that I can "chat" to people in similar circumstances!
My other half and I are going to try and wait for my cycle to return then TTC but doubt that idea will last long

Any advice would be fab, one sleepless night ahead of me tonight

pixiestix · 15/06/2010 21:27

Ha, Aries could that thread title be any longer?

Hope that it gets you the lucky thread-starter BFP. It worked for me in January!

almostknockedupgirl · 15/06/2010 21:36

Woot! New thread! 'Ello!

Re the unknown soap pregnancy, what I want to know is, can I get pregnant from sitting on a dirty toilet seat? [clueless emoticon]

CaveMum, I know this is nothing like the same, but my husband and I will be living hours and hours apart from August, and he does a stupid job which means it will be impossible highly unlikely that he will ever be able to come near an antenatal class, so if I do get pregnant, I'll be a single mother throughout the pregnancy for all intents and purposes! Although, I know, nothing like the same. But I can at least join you in the 'abnormal' camp.

Did anyone win at the races today?

No news round these parts. Eating all pregnancy forbidden foods I can get my hands on and drinking wine with every meal in preparation for abstinence from next week. And I must read back and catch up!

papertiger · 15/06/2010 21:42

Just dropping in to say hello, so many new people, its so hard keeping up with everything!
Congratulations to wannamummy and pipsicles, hopefully we can compare notes on the grads thread sometime soon.
Still just lurking occasionally over there as I'm still only 7 weeks and paranoid. I've had hardly any nausea and don't feel much different. I'm sure that could be normal but POAS again yesterday and still positive so hopefully thats a good sign.
Really liking the new ERTD acronym! Hope it won't visit me for some time!
Best wishes to all.

CaveMum · 15/06/2010 21:43

Thanks Aries, I know exactly what you are saying. It is exactly the same thing the sane half of my brain is saying, problem is it is the crazy half of my brain that seems to be in charge at the mo!

alien good luck for tomorrow. The best thing to do is wait until you get your next period and then ask someone to add you to the list. The abbreviations are fairly simple, once you know what to look for!

TTC#1 is trying to conceive baby number one

Cycle is the number of cycles you have been trying for

UCL is your usual cycle length. You won't know this until you've had a few cycles.

CD is cycle day. This is the number of days you are into your current cycle.

So if you are trying for baby number 1, have been trying for 3 months, your usual cycle length is 30 days and you are currently on day 15 your stats would read:

TTC#1 Cycle 3 UCL 30 CD 15

You just need to remember that the 1st day of your cycle is the first day of your period.

almostknockedupgirl · 15/06/2010 21:47

SoarAlba, I'm in awe of your budgeting abilities. Do you take commission?

alien82 · 15/06/2010 21:48

Hey CaveMum,
thanks for the info and the good luck wishes, it is all just really daunting for me... hope I will be ok with this whole TTC thing

almostknockedupgirl · 15/06/2010 21:50

Oh, and good luck alien! I know how you feel. (Heck, you were me last week.) I hope tomorrow is a breeze!

kurlyvoice · 15/06/2010 21:56

Hello all - I do love a shiny new thread . Hope it brings you lots of luck, aries - and the rest of us as well!

I am also loving the new acronyms, although in my case it's more EVSD (S=spots) since, even though I've had a fortnight or so of no spotting, I'm back to it without any sign of ovulation. Ladidadida. And school is really angsty at the moment which makes me hope that I can get pregnant and have something more important to focus on - and a countdown out of there for a while!

Kaloki, sorry about your move back to the bottom of the list - this is going to be the lucky thread though, so don't get too comfortable!

Can someone put me on the "Not Counting Days" section, as I really AM here and want to be official, but have no idea about my numbers given the history so need to be vague still. I do really love the idea of a spring baby, though, and that is rapidly slipping through my fingers...

Welcome to our thread, alien82. A few terms for you to know:
ERTD - period (elsewhere known as AF, a term which has been banished here!)
BFP - Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test)
BFN - Big Fat Negative (as above)
UCL - Usual Cycle Length
CD - Cycle Day (counted from first day of your last period starting)
Do have a look at the Acronyms section for other general mumsnetty things! Good luck with your mirena coming out tomorrow - I'm sure that it will all be fine and hope that you have something to look forward to afterwards. We're quite free with handing around the chocolate here.

Hello to everyone else!

kurlyvoice · 15/06/2010 22:00

Ooops, classic cross-posting there cavemum! Well, I think that we explained them in a similar way, alien, so maybe that just shows how keen we are to welcome you into the fold. It's great here - and nothing is TMI (too much information!)

Kaloki · 15/06/2010 22:24

I'm running out of chocolate! Waaahhhh!!

aly323 · 16/06/2010 01:58

Hello ladies! Just popping my head in to have a look around at the new thread. So new and shiny, I like it! Very nice!

So far so good with my tiny bean (dr looked around and made sure it was just one). Still constantly on edge, but I'm sure I'll chill out eventually. I'm feeling good enough to pass on my cheapie opks and some hpt's to my friend who is also ttc. That's a big step for me! However, I still have loads of cheapie HPT's though. Anyone in the US who could use them? I don't know how I ever thought I would use so many...

felicityFlick · 16/06/2010 02:40

Great new home! love it here- back to check in properly later on xx

CaveMum · 16/06/2010 07:10

Morning all, nice to see people are finding their way across!

aly glad to hear things are going well and your (solo) bean is doing everything he/she should. I have the spectre of twins lurking over me as they are on both sides of the family!

almostknockedupgirl thanks for your words of support. I need people to remind me that I'm not the only one who may have hurdles to get over!

kaloki, I'll let you in on my secret chocolate stash if you promise not to tell anyone else where it is! Shhhh

Right, off to make my Royal Ascot selections for the day. Will pop back and post them shortly.

haloflo · 16/06/2010 07:19

Well ERTD arrived at 6am, and ow it hurts. Breakfast of cereal and ibuprofen and vodka it is. What an horrible rollercoaster that cycle was, all 33 crappy days of it.

When someone does the list (I would but was there talk of cutting it down? - I don't want to do it wrong) pop me back on the counting days as

haloflo TTC #1 cycle 7, UCL 26-33 CD1

Welcome alien I'm not normally so self involved not to say hello and good luck. I'm afraid the stupid 2ww (2 weeks after ov, waiting for ERTD) sent me loopy.

I'm off to watch Green Day at Lancashire Cricket Ground today which should be good, I just hope the cramps don't ruin my day.
