Ridiculous Symptom Spotting... come on... you know you do...

1000 replies

millymoo1234 · 29/03/2010 21:22

OK, so since TTC I've thought (or wondered briefly) the following might be signs of being pregnant...

funny rash on my legs - still don't know what this was
three spots on my forehead - I was convinced this was a hormone induced 'breakout' as I don't normally get spots)
General bad mood - turns out I'm just grumpy
crazy dreams
needing a wee
not needing a wee
not liking the smell of coconut - weird
feeling very weepy and sore boobs - hmmm... this could have just been PMS!
stuffy nose

This month I have a massive craving for Mango which I'm normally indifferent to - I am of course CONVINCED that it's my month...

Am desperately trying to hold out till next weekend to test... I need distractions! anyone else had any funny symptoms and wondered if it could be a SIGN?

pleas join in the madness and let me know I'm not the only one! xxx

pmsl at swizzle and wise ones comment. are you sure you posted on the right thread!!?

Hi Zebra, yes cramps is a symptom of preg, i had severe cramping when i was preg with my ds and that was even before i found out, i thought it was just af on her way.

Row cant believe you get that long out of your newly shaved legs!!!! Im in the same boat as Bossy, an hour later and im no longer fuzz free. im soooooo envious!! We go through razors in our house like hot dinners.

Cd24 for me. still have funny feeling lower tummy and am conviced my boobs feel a bit sore

swizzlestar · 09/07/2010 12:18

You're meant to know these things girls!! God you'd never guess this is my 4th I'm ttc...

Row - am terribly jealous of your legs lol.

Zebra - fingers crossed!

Seany - when are you planning on testing??

I have weird feelings in my lower tummy too, ssore boobs and VERY sticky out nipples that ddh is being very rude about!! Sense of smell is overdrive and I'm off certain foods. Brushing my teeth makes me heave...

I'm still thinking this could just be really bad pmt symptoms!! Desperately trying not to get my hopes up.......

StormTTCbabyNo1 · 09/07/2010 17:01

Hi Girls,

CD28 for me and AF arrived 10am this morning, I'm like Clockwork!

What a BUMMER!!

Still at least I didn't waste any tests eh!

Cycle 2 will commence and this cycle we will be successful.....keeping up with the PMA

Hope your all ok

xx

bossyboop · 09/07/2010 18:01

Well done for no testing storm! Im on cd7 of typical 28 day cycle so not that far ahead of you, we can symptom spot together.

Dont know whats happened to my boobs the last few weeks been so perky, dh no longer talks to my face

This thread is getting long will it be full when we get to 1001 posts? will have to have ridiculous symptom spotting 2 unless of course we all get bfp by then which we will

Dandeliondrama · 09/07/2010 18:28

Hey swizzle, I'd seriously recommend my new favourite book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler...I'm learning SO many interesting things! My latest Point Of The Day is that it's only on implantation that your body starts releasing the pregnancy hormone HCG (i.e. what the pregnancy tests pick up), and implantation takes roughly a week to happen after ovulation, so no wasting pg tests until at least 7 dpo! Now that should save us some money

bossyboop · 09/07/2010 20:05

thank goodness theyve caught that lunatic, can sleep in my bed tonight, the stress is not doing my fertility any good and my most fertile days are coming up, cup of tea and some chocolate to get my stress levels down!

seanybosmummysfedupwaiting · 09/07/2010 21:33

Swizzle I have a confession to make-i tested a few hours ago [sheepish emoticon]. bfn .still its only cd24 so i know there is still hope. your symptoms are really promising!! when are you going to test? (again lol)

my bellys getting quite sore tonight, and my boobs are DEF getting sore.this is new for me cause i dont usually get sore boobs, just heavy or swollen looking ones and sometimes my nipples get a bit sore.

Storm sorry the witch got you,but silver lining is indeed that you didnt waste lots of money on tests.

Dandelion ive been threatening to buy that book for aaaaaaaaaages but i never actually get around to it,it sounds interesting though. How much did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking?

bev2102 · 10/07/2010 02:10

I'm so pleased they caught that nutter Bossy. Was a little worried for you as I noticed you said on the news thread that you live nearby. That mustve been so scary!

Sounds very promising Seany fingers crossed!

Good luck for next month Storm. Well done for being strong and not testing. Proud of you!

PMSL at Bossy and the extra pert nipples that DH is now talking to instead of you!! Actually laughed aloud at that one. You crack me up everytime!! This thread really is such a fab place to have a giggle at TTC and release pent up emotions. Shame we probably all live in different parts of UK as it would be great to meet up.

Row I too am disgustingly jealous of your fuzz free legs and arms! I have just a few hours silky smooth then wake up the next morning with the stubble from Hell!!

Welcome to the thread Zebra and fingers crossed the cramping's a sign of a BFP on it's way. We're well overdue a few BFPs to keep our spirits high.

Well update on me. Thankfully got PT test results from drs today and didn't have to wait the whole weekend as the not knowing is often worse than AF rearing it's ugly head or a BFN. Sadly it was another BFN . So I've no idea what my body's playing at! I'm now CD39 of UCL28 with absolutely no sign of AF.

My DH and I have decided that it's definitely a BFN (even though that's what tests kept saying I really didn't believe them with all the symptoms I had and still have now!). I was going to buy a CB OPK. I still have the digital 'wand' from Feb 2008 and it still works so only need to buy the testing 'sticks'. Trouble is I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find them without buying another 'wand' too. I think that's ridiculous as last time i used it I tended to go through 10-14 tests before the smiley face appeared. That means buying 2 kits at £20-£24 a pop every month until I get a BFP! Whereas if you could buy the 'sticks' separately like you can with the CB fertility monitor it'd be alot cheaper. Anyone know if you can/where you can get them from? Thank you.
Until we can find them without the 'wand' DH and I have decided from now until AF or BFP we will be at it like rabbits! To ensure we don't miss ovulation our schedule will be a minimum of once a day until AF arrives, then start again the day AF leaves!!

TMI Warning The only trouble with this is poor DH got rather sore last month after TTC 9 times over 7 days in a row!! Will have to buy shares in KY Jelly!!
Hopefully this should work and if not we'll have fun trying!! And as a bonus maybe I'll loose some weight TTC, after all it's reputedly the best form of (s)exercise! Mind you mustn't loose too much weight incase same happens this time as with DS. I lost 3 stone in the first trimester (no actual morning sickness) and 4 stone in total throughout the pregnancy! Best (non) diet I've ever had! Lol

bev2102 · 10/07/2010 02:15

PS
Sorry that was such a long, long post. I do tend to ramble on rather alot......!!

bossyboop · 10/07/2010 08:18

Bev what exactly is the digital wand thing called exactly, who makes it? All come to an end now on the gunman front, was glued to tv till 2am this morning and dd up at 7.20 yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

Tis true on the boob front even had to use another test just to double check it was just af, though im not complaining, he's like putty in my hands at the mo! And how exciting to poas and still have 48 tests left

Seany, dont blame you for testing but it is still early so its not over yet, dont know why us early testers put ourselves through this misery, probably the need to know right now! I just hope that once i have a baby i put an end to the symptom spotting, god the thought of suspecting im pregnant every month from now till the menopause

Dandeliondrama · 10/07/2010 09:41

bev the thought that I could actually lose weight while pg has really cheered me up today . A lot of things that I've read have said that an average weight to put on is 12kg's (sorry, I can't work in stone!), and that's terrified me! Am sharing your frustration with the cb opk as I need to buy some new testing wands too....and I have only been able to find them with the device too. Booo. I'm actually thinking of heading back to faithful Amazon and buying the opk's in bulk - they do a deal where one can buy a 50 pack of test strips for £7.90 I think. Haven't used these ones before so don't know their accuracy compared to cb, but it's worth a shot!

seany I got the book from Amazon (lol, I'm like an online advert) for £13. Was quite surprised when it arrived as it's thick and I really had no idea one could write so much on the subject, but it's fab, really funny in places. And as gross as this sounds, their real life pictures of stuff like cm really help with figuring out what stage one's own body is at.

Back to bev, good heavens where are you going to find the time to do that much bd-ing???? I heard somewhere that more than once a day may not give sperm enough time to rejuvenate...but maybe don't listen to me, I'm just jealous that you can fit so much in . lol.

seanybosmummysfedupwaiting · 10/07/2010 10:16

Yes dandelion i heard that too about bding every day. actually my gynae consultant advised bding every other day before and around ovulation, but we have been bding almost every day cause im not sure when i ov (if i even did),and am afraid in case we miss the right day.
I dont tend to bother with ov tests as i have had bad experiences in the past with them (i wasnt ov+went through millions of them),and then when i was on clomid i was told that it could affect the results of ov tests so didnt bother with them (dont know if thats true, someone on mn told me).

Bossy i didnt realise you live so close to where that maniac was! Not a bit of wonder you were stressed out! I would have been terrified.

Bev dont know if this is true but i read somewhere that ky jelly can affect sperm. you dont want to be doing all that bding if using thats gonna hinder your chances.i'll do a bit of googling and see if i can find the website i read it on.

seanybosmummysfedupwaiting · 10/07/2010 11:10

Bev i found this on encyclopedia brittanica:

The article discusses the negative health effects of using personal lubricants like K-Y Jelly. The marketing mythology is that lubricants are largely bought by female baby boomers who are reaching menopause, younger women taking oral contraceptives and breastfeeding mothers. Because of the way in which personal lubricants are used, most of the ingredients are preservatives such as sodium hydroxide that can be irritating to the mucous membranes. Several studies that have looked at the effects of lubricants like K-Y Jelly and its brand rivals have found that they can be as lethal to sperm as a contraceptive jelly

bev2102 · 10/07/2010 17:12

Bossy it's the Clearblue Ovulation kit that you can buy in Boots. It's on offer at the moment. Normally £19.99 but all Clearblue tests have £2.00 off at the moment.

Dandelion they measure in kgs at the hospital and it was 26kg that I lost so I think that's around 4 stone but maybe my maths is a little out? I think I lost so much weight as my appetite totally changed and I couldn't eat anything sweet like chocolate. Apparently if you're expecting a boy you crave savoury food and a girl sweet food. It was certainly true for me. My fave food was any pasta but I hated Italian food when pg the only thing I wanted to eat was cheese and beetroot sandwiches! My DH kept telling me we'd have a beetroot stained baby, so when DS was lifted from my stomach and my DH just saw a purple bum & balls (his words) his first words were 'see I told you he'd be beetroot stained'! I actually dropped 4 dress sizes from before pg to after - it was great! Now here's where you all truely hate me - as soon as DS was lifted from me my tummy went flatter than before pg!! The consultant who was stitching me up kept saying 'your tummy's getting flatter' then 'oh my goodness in my 27 years of delivering babies I've never seen a ladies stomach go down so quickly'! Oh was I happy . Fingers crossed for a repeat pregnancy!!

Seany and Dandelion thanks for that. I'm going to rethink the BDing and probably go for every other day. I've just read somewhere that sperm can survive a couple of days inside the cervix/womb so no real need for more BDing than every other day - just wanted to give extra chances but think you're right! Sorry DH early Christmas has just been revoked!

Bossy I'm so pleased you're safe. When I read that you lived near where this guy was hiding out I was pretty worried about you.

Another TMI Warning
AF has finally arrived now - nicely all over white trousers when I was out! How embarrassing . Never thought I'd be so happy to see it! At least I know where I stand now. It's completely different to normal ie never comes during the day, always overnight and it's very watery which isn't right for me. Maybe it's because I'm 12 days late? Anyway big relief as it means I'll have a chance this month. Only thing is the cramps have got me big style and I'm really tired so going to have an hour or so nap!

Thanks for info on lube. I was only joking as thinking that much BDing I was sure to need it otherwise may have started a bush fire with the excess friction! Good to know though and definitely won't be using any and if I need it in the future I may try the PreSeed lube that's sperm friendly.

bev2102 · 10/07/2010 17:22

Seany just read the info leaflet for the CB OPK and it says the injections would give a false reading but don't think the tablets do. Hope this helps.

bev2102 · 10/07/2010 17:35

Seany the actual wording on the Clearblue digital ovulation test is;

Can medication or medical conditions affect the result?
~ Always read manufacturers instructions for any medication you are taking before conducting a test.
~ Certain medical conditions and medications can adversely affect the performance of the test; for example if you are pregnant, have recently been pregnant, have reached the menopause or have polycystic ovarian syndrome you may get a misleading result. This may also be true if you are taking fertility drugs containing Luteinising Hormone or human Chorionic Gonadotrophin. Please check with your doctor.
~ Clomiphene Citrate does not affect the tests, but may affect the length of your cycles and, therefore, when you should be testing. You may need to start a new pack to continue testing.

Hope that clears up whether you can use it or not Seany and good luck x

row78 · 10/07/2010 19:07

if it helps all the people jealous of my fuzz free legs it may help to find out that my underarms are never fuzz free, I just can't get it happen. bossy does epliation hurt much? I may have to try that.

I had massive tummy cramps last night and started to spot, so I thought that was it and at least I could have some wine tonight, but I only spotted and it's very light pink, maybe the same is happening to me as bev. I wore a white skirt today as well to tempt it along, I just want this bit over and done with now so I can start on next month. I've decided that I can't possibly be pregnant now anyway. I haven't sex in nearly 3 weeks and even though I read somewhere that sperm can survive for 7 days in the right conditions (and mr peally has super sperm), it's not really possible now is it? I tested again this morning using the 6 days early FR kit, I'm sure some kind of line would have turned up by now, so I'm having my glasses of wine this evening.

I ordered that Toni Weschler book last week to try and take my mind off testing anymore, it's on free delivery from amazin though so probably won't be here for ages. I also ordered a BBT thermometer and trillions of pregnancy sticks so next month I can text every hour with a clear conscience. Do those ovulation sticks work well and also has anyone tried the expensive machines CB do as well?

fairybubbles · 11/07/2010 07:14

Hi all, I was on this thread back in May when we began TTC #2. I'm now back on the TTC wagon, had a couple weeks off to enjoy some world cup parties.

Next AF due 15th July. No pre-AF symptoms.
This month I have been far more relaxed, and we've just SWI'd whenever we felt like it.

I will take some time to read the old threads and catch up, sending lots of baby dust to you all.

Going to read up on possible early symptoms- I have really strange wind noises in my tummy. It's quite loud at times!

Dandeliondrama · 11/07/2010 09:56

row I believe that sperm can survive as long as you have 'fertile quality' cm, which can be anything from 1 to 5 days before ov. Apparently the older you get the less number of fertile days you have, so the 5 days is for woman in their early 20's. Grrr, those days are long gone.

No symptoms for me as DH and I still haven't started bd-ing yet. I think we're cutting it a bit fine, as it's cd 11 now, but as I ov around cd 16 we've still got a bit of time to play with!

KatyCustard · 11/07/2010 12:01

Hello, another symptom spotter here. I'm due on 14th and have been having dull achey pains and sore boobs since about last Wednesday. Today it's feeling much more like ordinary AF pains...
I did a first response test yesterday which was negative so am going to be patient now and wait till Wed(14th) if AF doesn't appear first.
I know I need to be realistic as it's only our first month of trying but I am not patient at the best of times!

RoseNoir · 11/07/2010 12:52

Ooooh, I have loved obsessing over reading this thread the past week or so. I would like to add a couple of my own 'symptoms' here (although got a BFP yesterday morning )

  1. a strangely courageous few moments - Im usually scared of spiders, but managed this week to catch two big buggers IN MY HANDS and chuck 'em. Thats new for me
  1. boobs that are NOT sore
  1. weird crampiness like af is on her evil way
  1. INCREDIBLY windy, cannot stop farting, unlucky friends
  1. the need to dance whenever any music comes on
  1. the ability to spot a pg woman from 100 miles away
bossyboop · 11/07/2010 12:54

Hi Fairy Hi katy!

Row, I used my boots points to pay for a £55 phillips epilator and it was evil, I got an Emjoi one from QVC much cheaper and doesnt hurt, but they say that when you first use it its like pin pricks but the more you use it the less it hurts. QVC offer 30 day money back guarantee so you can try it and if you dont like it send it back for a refund but you still pay the p&p. I find for me it lasts a good while longer than shaving and as your hair doesnt grow fast it could be ideal for you.

Luckily not in Rothbury but a chip shop near me was robbed at gunpoint monday night and the police confirmed they thought it was him. I was worried as there was no confirmed sighting in rothbury so we knew he was round here but didnt know for certain he had left. Also the people helping him live a short distance from here and its inbetween newcastle and rothbury so it makes sense.

Heres to lots of BDing all round, Dandelion get yourself to bed at once!

Loving all the info and tips being shared.

seanybosmummysfedupwaiting · 11/07/2010 13:43

Welcome back fairy hope you enjoyed your world cup drunkeness and lack of obsession with symptom spotting for a little while

Hi Katy [waves]

Congrats Rose, you lucky duck! [envious] Hope you have a lovely healthy pregnancy

Dandelion i second what bossy said-straight to bed for you missus!!

Thanks for the info on ov tests bev,if we're not lucky this month i think i mite order a big pack off amazon.

bossyboop · 11/07/2010 14:38

wow rose, congrats, your vist here was short and sweet! Love your symptoms.

Bev 4 stones sounds right to me. After I gave birth while i was being stitched up DH asked to see my belly, was amazing to see it just disappear tho took a few months for the last bit to drop away, the only amazing thing for me was that when i went back to work i lost even more weight but it went back on when i left work to be a full time sahm, but was nice being the lightest ive been even if just for a short while.

bev2102 · 11/07/2010 15:03

Yeah Bossy my DH chose to look at my tummy whilst it was gaping wide open! Instead of passing out (like I would've done had it been him) he found it quite fascinating and now boasts that he knows me inside and out! Literally!

Seany you're more than welcome for that info, although I'm really hoping you won't need to buy one next month..... On eBay they're selling new CB Fertility monitors for £50ish and used ones for £20-30ish (normally over £100). They're meant to be much more accurate than OPKs and you can buy refills too. Unfortunately too expensive for us at the moment but may get one in a couple of months if still BFNing.

I read the funniest ever post on here earlier - I was laughing so hard. I think it's in chat and called I SO nearly become a news story this morning. It involved a cow and a lot of mud. If you get a chance read it, it's so stupid that it's hilarious!!
