Carrots

It is my understanding that OPK's measure the luteal hormone, which surges 24 - 48 hours before ovulation occurs.

Hence, when having treatment, my clinic asks me to contact them as soon as opk records the surge, and they book me in for treatment the next day. If it surges on a Saturday, then they would get me to come in the same day, as they are closed on Sundays.

Sperm can survive for quite a while, so they would be lingering even if the egg hasn't popped out yet!

ChoChoSan · 20/11/2009 11:44

...by the way, that does not necessarily contradicts what scorps say - the idea is that you do them until you see the surge...if you just poas out of the blue, then it can be hard to tell. In my experience the LH fades almost immediately (ie. next day I test), but then I am a hopeless barren with a wrongmo reproductive sysmtem, so it could be explained by that!

iggypiggy · 20/11/2009 11:55

chocho when I used opks i only ever got a line one day - I must be the same?

givecarrotsachance · 20/11/2009 11:57

they do seem to be somewhat confusing. I I ovd on the day that I got the first positive going on symptoms - like scorp I tend to go on what my body says rather than anything else.

I'm going to assume that I ovd on the day I got the pains, etc and ignore the OPK result!

Thanks both.

Quiet here this morning!

longwee · 20/11/2009 11:57

OPKs - feck knows. It all sounds like madness to me.

Poss thread title: BESH Friends - the one where they all get diffed

VeryAngryGusset · 20/11/2009 12:37

My body says nothing to me. It is introverted and socially inept. Grrr.

I can't believe how quickly we fill threads these days. Like the suggested title. Can we move the Palace to a beach front with sunbeds and a seafront cocktail bar? I feel the need for some winter sun on my "virtually" perfect bikini body.

TwinkleToes76 · 20/11/2009 13:18

For those of you interested in the therapy = barred from adoption issue, my mum says it is definitely not an automatic bar from adopting. However, the agency will always want to look into it and different agencies have different policies. She said it really depends on how serious a difficulty it is/was. If you've been diagnosed with a serious mental health issue in the past (schizophrenia or bi-polar for example), then sadly you're not going to be in with much of a chance or if you are still in therapy or taking anti depressants then that could be problematic too. However, if you have had some therapy/counselling in your past, as many people have, including in relation to not being able to conceive, but can openly talk about what the difficulties were and how you've worked through it, then this should not be a barrier to adoption. They will basically want to be sure that you are managing whatever difficulties you had and are not incapacitated by them or that they wont get in the way of your ability to parent a child who will almost certainly have come from a very difficult background. She said that they will expect you to be able to talk easily and openly about a lot of personal information and difficult issues especially about whether you have worked through giving up on an identity of being a biological parent and accepting that you may now be an adoptive parent instead. She works with many people who have had counselling etc and still gone on to be approved for adoption.

PandoraBraithwaite · 20/11/2009 14:35

Hello all, especially Twinkle, as that means I'm not the newbie any more!

VAG, I'm with you on relocating to a Winter Palace. Could so do with a holiday in the sun but absolutely no chance in RL so I will have to settle for a virtual one.

I'm due on tomorrow if its a 28 day cycle, but could be longer so I will no doubt have the traditional two or so days of convincing myself this is THE month, followed by babyfail. My enthusiasm of a few days ago has waned - boobs still big but not feeling sicky any more. All this whilst entertaining a six months pregnant guest for the weekend. If she wants to go baby stuff shopping I may just cry.

Longwee - your title gets my vote!

givecarrotsachance · 20/11/2009 15:00

I vote we all stop talking 'till we hear from hawaiian so she has the best chance of staying in the lucky thread...

Maybe scorps could fit into this one too? Clearly dora also has a chance, too. Fingers crossed.

But for obvious reasons, I'm still hoping things are ok, HCS. Hope to hear from you soon.xxx

But I liked both thread name suggestions although I really like the idea of some sunshine.

Muser · 20/11/2009 15:20

The next thread is going to be lucky too. I've ages to wait!

HawaiianCuntShine · 20/11/2009 15:42

Well- rots you can give that up. Here I am to say that a shineycunt is a teflon one. It's official: babyFAIL for me. I'm really sorry I can't join the great group of ladies that got all updiffed on this thread.

cho just for the record: "cruel to be kind" isn't the way to go, even in the Palace.

Aerie · 20/11/2009 15:49

Ahhhhh, Hawaiian I'm so so very sorry to hear that. Shitty doesn't even come close. Allow me to give ya a proppa bear hug

iggypiggy · 20/11/2009 15:57

cuntshine oh no - I was really hopeful for you.

Don't know what to say except what complete utter shite. Have a cuddle from me and, obviously, a gin.

CurlyCasper · 20/11/2009 16:19

so sorry cuntshine. have a massive hug, and let me make that gin a double

skihorse · 20/11/2009 16:42

I'm so sorry HCS, really, really genuinely sorry.

VeryAngryGusset · 20/11/2009 17:06

Right, there's only one thing for it. Someone hold HawaiianCrapNews down while I lick her eyeballs.

Sorry matey - what cruddy news. Hope you get pissed tonight.

HawaiianCuntShine · 20/11/2009 17:07

there... there... ski it will be ok.

Backslaps to Aerie, iggy and curly - thanks all.

So... about that going away party????

ChoChoSan · 20/11/2009 17:08

Really sorry Hawaiian, that must be such a blow.

I don't know what you think I meant upthread , but I can assure you I really didn't think I had written anything to upset you...so sorry if I did.

HawaiianCuntShine · 20/11/2009 17:08

Thanks VAG I'm planning on getting fucked tonight! I think that will help.

HawaiianCuntShine · 20/11/2009 17:12

No worries, water under the bridge now.

The neg isn't as bad as the thought that it's probably the end for us. Will have to see what the doc says in the assesment but if chances are same or worse... then what's the point, really.

Good news is we have a cool dog and we have no need for birth control, ever!

Scorpette · 20/11/2009 18:32

Nooooooooooooooooooooo! Am SO sorry for you, Cuntshine. I don't care about protocol, I'm-a-gonna hug you... hug you GOOD

PollyPoo · 20/11/2009 18:34

Oh Cuntshine i am so so sorry. . Lets get royally fucked tonight... I've just bought a bottle of tesco's finest cheapest value pikey vodka and I'm planning to get as far through it as I can. . I have a need to get absolutely ratarsed in RL and I will raise a glass to you Cuntshine. Here, have this enormous hug, swiftly followed by a dead leg (just in case you thought I was going soft in my old age).

TwinkleToes76 · 20/11/2009 18:42

HCS - sorry to hear the crappy news

Muser · 20/11/2009 19:08

Really sorry to hear that Cuntshine. Getting trollied sounds like a good idea. Let me line up some of my super-strong punch for you.

idealcamel · 20/11/2009 19:55
