canga Take this with several pinches of salt - I studied English Lit, not medicine - but I suspect that stress has very little impact on your actual fertility, but a huge impact on your desire to, um, spend time in the bedroom? I'm hoping that's a comforting thought; you can't stop yourself stresssing about external horrids, but that stress shouldn't have an impact on the whole sperm-meets-egg dynamic.

porcupine11 · 11/07/2009 08:43

canga, i conceived my ds when very stressed, so it can be done - my beautiful mum had just died and i was about to start a new job that i didn't feel ready for as was still deep in grief. and we were in the middle of selling my mum's house just as the market was starting to slide, and finding a new place.

my tip is BDing in the daytime when you aren't knackered, and the stress is easier to block out (doesn't everything seem worse at night?)

i have a new problem ttc now - still no periods, despite cutting back to one main BF per day. i guess i'll have to give up altogether

Poppyjen · 11/07/2009 10:10

Hi Cangaroo

well all I can say is somehow we managed it....

I am a solicitor working in the City (and yes, the stereotypical arse-hole of a boss is true in my case), my husband is an accountant at a very large Bank and despite the busiest week for both of us for ages coinciding with the "window", and neither of us getting home until 10pm (and being fairly grumpy with it...) we managed it this time.

I was really worried about the stress too, all I can say is keep positive, it will be so worth it (and BD has to be the best mind-distraction technique ever, right?

Well I have now taken 5 tests over the past few days and had 5 positives....I know that sounds really weird but it was so comforting to see the line get darker every day Somehow it makes it all a bit more real!

Still sinking in though....

(Poppyjen sits quietly at the back of the bus hoping no-one will mind so she can check on how everyone else is getting on....)

cangaroo · 11/07/2009 10:21

Thanks porcupine, idealcamel and beanmum for your advice. That is so helpful and reassuring to hear your eperiences. Porcupine it sounds as though you were in a totally horrid place when your mum died, and I am so pleased that you managed to conceive your lovely ds in the midst of it all.

Idealcamel - um, that makes a lots of sense that stress actually has more of an impact on bd than actual fertility, as I suppose once sperm are unleashed and swimming they aren't really clever enough to know if I have a meeting the next day!

Beanmum I will take your advice and try to stop getting stressed about stress...

Porupine i am really sorry that you are feeling really hopeless about the whole TTC thing. I am no expert, but don't give up! my sister in law conceived her DS2 about six months after her first, and she hadn't got her periods back. I have also heard of another woman who was about five months preg. before she realsed, just because her periods hadn't started again and she never considered tht she could be pregnant. It is possible. Enjoy your BD!

CD7 already?!?! Why can't the 2ww go this fast!

Bettymum · 13/07/2009 09:46

Hi Skihorse sorry about your mc
ilove2shop have you looked at fertility friend?. You can chart your temperatures and it estimates your ovulation and so on. There's also a lot of helpful info on there and you can look at other people's charts. You're right about temps staying up, the thing is if you get AF they drop right down again when she arrives, but if you're pg then they stay up...it becomes a lot clearer once you've temped for a few cycles! I am a big temping fan. As for me since it's the first cycle after my mc I am not sure what to expect, so sign of ovulation yet but we've been BDing away so fingers crossed!
Hope everyone had a nice weekend .
