Hi everyone. I am starting up a new thread since our old one was reaching the 1000 post limit.

Here is a link to the old thread.

Stac are they going to scan you this month or just do bloods?

Amazelucy hello and welcome to our thread you are in good company here. I think you really need some sort of monitoring when you are on Clomid. I have a scan on day 12 and have CD21 bloods done. Some people just have a series of blood tests. My FC also gives out OPKs on your first cycle of Clomid. I know that they are not great for PCOS sufferers, but I think that this is different when you are on Clomid. Basically ignore faint lines on OPKs - if it is positive it will be obvious. Hope this is useful.

The cystitis sounds like part of being run down - could be stress? Good luck

Alfie update please - thinking of you x

Clure how's things? I'm sure you'll update us as soon as you have any info.

Islegrin Let's hope it's lucky lefty for you x

dani tell me about the stress!! So hard to keep a clear head.

As for me - I am pretty sure that I have PMT - been a bit short tempered and biting my finger nails. Never mind. Hopefully I'll be too busy to notice my AF arriving or fret about it on Monday.

mummycat1 · 22/04/2009 20:29

Hi Sissy - baby glue and loads of luck to you - thanks for the update. Have you told anyone yet?

stac14 · 22/04/2009 22:13

Hi mumycat
I am only getting bloods done, the consultant says there is no need for scans, think its a postcode lottery as to what you get when ttc, nightmare lol

Hope everyone is well
sissy so happy for you

Lisylou1980 · 23/04/2009 08:27

Hi all
Got a strange feeling my AF is on its way, not 100% sure it may be because i'm feeling really low at mo that i am getting the feeling. Just found out partner going to Afghanistan in July!!
Hopew it works for the rest of you xx

stac14 · 23/04/2009 11:52

Hey lisylou
Hope your ok and AF doesnt come. I take it your partner is in the Army, my nephew just came from Afghanistan for his baby to be born so he has been stationed in Edinburgh for the time being to be closer to home think its thier type of paternity leave.

I started AF last Friday it was very light until last night when I have become very heavy and I am still getting a lot of cramps, usually by now I would have stopped. Has anyone else had this? or should I be concerned? XXX

amazelucy · 23/04/2009 13:13

stac14
That?s the thing really ? she literally prescribed me the Clomid and didn?t give me much more information than that! Other to say that I can try these for 6 months and then come back to see her for a referral if it doesn?t work in 6 months! Feel completely lost with it! The cystitis has got better today and drinking lots of water ? thank you for that.

Does everyone have blood tests or scans??

I have 50 mg to take for 5 days from first day of period.

islegrin
Thank you for the welcome ? its really nice to know I?m not alone! Most of my friends have babies and never seemed to have any trouble (at least they didn?t talk about it!)

boo1981

Thank you! I hope it works too ? just hope I don?t get obsessed by it ? but its hard not to!

mummycat1

Thank you so much for the welcome! The doctor hasn?t offered any monitoring at all ? just to see her in 6 months if nothing happens!! Is OPK ovulation prediction kits?? If so I wasn?t given any!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/04/2009 13:38

Hi amazelucy

Welcome!

Are you not under the care of a gynae at a subfertility unit at a hospital - with taking Metformin and now clomid you ought now to be seeing a specialist. PCOS is not a condition that should be messed around with by GPs!.

Do not use OPK's at all - with PCOS its a complete waste of time even when on clomid. Clomid can encourage more LH to be produced and the kit will read that production.

I would hope you'd be having both blood tests and ultrasounds whilst on clomid - no monitoring is a no-no as you do not know whether its doing what its supposed to or otherwise. Do not assume that ovulation is happening unless blood tests confirm that it is.

Clomid should also be given with caution to PCOS patients as it can impede fertilisation and increase LH levels markedly, you should always have monitoring whilst on it (the usual max time for clomid is 6 months after which time other treatments should be tried).

Cysitis is not a side effect associated with clomid usage - I would get this treated by the GP asap.

Verity is a good website for PCOSers and is very informative:-

www.verity-pcos.org.uk

HTH, any other questions just ask. I have PCOS as well

Attila

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/04/2009 13:39

Havign read your message you ought to be referred to the specialist asap (because you are on Metformin as well) rather than in say six months time.

tetleytea · 23/04/2009 13:39

Hi everyone

Can i just ask about the day 21 progesterone test. What unit of measurement is used for your results? Everyone keeps talking about the "over 30" result as showing that you ov'd. I'm in italy and i think maybe the unit used is different so they're not comparable? the units on my results printout are ng/ml

last month my gynae looked at my result of 22 and said "oh yes, you've definitely ov'd"

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/04/2009 13:44

I have seen units measured in pg/ml.

Were your LH and FSH levels tested that month also?. If so what were these like?.

Lisylou1980 · 23/04/2009 14:11

Hi Ladies
Stac yes my man in army, so it makes things harder trying to concieve and this month he actually worked it so he would be home through all of ovulation period so thought it would work. I have had aching down there since ovulation which is very strange. I will just wait and see what happens now.
Just reading Lucys story and isnt it strrange to be taking clomid from day 1 of AF and to be having no checks does the doctor really no what he/she is on about!!!!
Babydust all xxxxxx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/04/2009 14:23

Hi Stac,

Yes, we had a great time on holiday in Italy thank you for asking!.

With best wishes

Attila

tetleytea · 23/04/2009 15:18

Hi attila,

i had my LH and FSH levels done on day 3 of a different month.

They were LH 8.30 mIU/ml
FSH 7.50 mU/ml. That was without clomid.

The reason i asked about the progesterone was to compare pre-clomid (22.2 ng/ml) and with clomid this month it was 54.

which part of italy were you in?

mummycat1 · 23/04/2009 15:36

I have also been diagnosed with PCOS. I do ov on my own just irregular periods and an episode of absent periods a few years ago. I knew that Attilla would immediately jump on here and start saying don't use OPKs, but my FC is very good and very highly regarded. They definitely know what they are doing and they do advise OPks for the first month. They definitely DO work for me when not on Clomid too - you just have to know how your body works. It is up to you to make the right deceision for you based on all the information around you - good luck.

stac14 · 23/04/2009 16:43

Hey ladies

How are you all today?
Hi boo welcome to the thread how are you?

tetleytea Welcome to the thread, sorry I'm not very good with blood levels mine have been at 0.1 for ages lol I haven't used OPK's basically as they are quite expensive and I wouldnt be able to keep it up every month, and I would probably go mad if I had them in the house Tetley let is know your cycle day so we can add you to the list

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/04/2009 16:44

Hi mummycat

If you have been advised by your FC to use these kits then fair enough and I will not attempt to dissuade you from doing otherwise.

It is only right and proper though to point out the potential downsides of using these kits and these kits are certainly not without their problems. On a wider level too the body can play tricks and mislead; its not solely about knowing how the body works. If only it was.

PCOSers as a group are far more likely to ovulate only very occasionally or not at all.

Anyhoo, when are you next due to see the gynae?.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/04/2009 16:48

Hi tetleytea,

re your comments:-

"I had my LH and FSH levels done on day 3 of a different month.

They were LH 8.30 mIU/ml
FSH 7.50 mU/ml. That was without clomid".

That also seem typical of PCOS being present; there is clearly a LH/FSH imbalance.

"The reason i asked about the progesterone was to compare pre-clomid (22.2 ng/ml) and with clomid this month it was 54".

Looks like the clomid certainly helped. BTW did they also measure the LH and FSH on day 3 that particular month. I was wondering whether the clomid affected the LH level.

which part of italy were you in?
Rome (what a city!)

tetleytea · 23/04/2009 16:51

Thanks attila,

i've had several internal scans done and they said there was absolutely nothing there that shouldn't be, so i presumed this ruled out PCOS. ??

No, i didn't have day 3 tests done this month as i was away...

millymolly83 · 23/04/2009 23:49

hi stac and clure how are you geting on. how are you geting on with clomid sta is that you finished takeing clomid now. am just waiting to start clomid hope its not to long. been geting alot of cramps today but still no sigh

Clure · 24/04/2009 09:34

hi to you all and welcome to our new ladies on this thread.

Have left 2 messages with consultant's secretary (flippin answer machine!) and STILL waiting for advice on what to do next. Its been 15 days since taking provera and not AF. It's so frustrating.

Stac can you remind me how many mg of provera you took?

millymolly did you take provera? If so how long did you have to wait for af? hoping you can start your clomid soon.

Anyway, I will ring consultant again today. Keep you all posted.
Babydust to you all xxxx

stac14 · 24/04/2009 10:29

Hi millymolly Clomid is finished for this month but I am still bleeding after a week so a tad concerned. Hope AF gets you soon lol xx

Hey clure
I was on 20mg per day for 5 days but if I am honest I only took 20mg for 3 days and a couple at 10mg basically because I forgot, next time if I have to take it then I will make sure I take the 20mg all days

Quick question AF has been here a week with no signs of letting up should I be concerned or is this normal mine is normally finished after 5 days and on the clomid it was only 4, any ideas greatly received

Cheers ladies xxx

tetleytea · 24/04/2009 15:51

Hi, thanks for nice welcome stac14

I've added myself onto the list and updated it. Finding this clomid experience a bit weird as i seem to have lost all the spotting, cramps and other signs (not sure of what?!) from previous cycles. Instead am eating like a HORSE! convincing myself ice cream is therapeutic!

Beware *Tetleytea" - this is my 3rd month on Clomid and I have put on 7 pounds since starting it!!! Craving sugary sweet things I wouldnt normally look at - more of a savoury kind of gal .

Hope everyone else is doing ok?

Alfiemax · 24/04/2009 19:16

Hi Ladies,

An update from me, well after much hopes building and BFN's I am finally CD1 today .

I know it was only a 28 day cycle which is way shorter than some of you have waited before now, but I haven't had a cycle that long since 2000/2001 can't remember which so as you can imagine I was really excited. I think this is also the first time since starting TTC that DH has seemed dissapointed so I know he had built his hopes up too. He even asked me yesterday about SMP at work and things so it must have been on his mind. He's usually the laid back quiete type lol.

Anyway I shall be starting clomid tomorrow so am looking forward to it, side effects and all.

Good Luck to all those waiting to test, lets hope we have another bout of bfp's soon.

Here's a list update, apologies for any incorrect.
