obviously it will be even better if you all get BFP's and never have to go to the fertility clinic!

SarahAbroad · 24/05/2009 18:16

Hey Ladies,

Gosh...stay offline for three days and look at all the build-up! I will need to pay more attention!

Mrs P welcome--glad you've joined in (I'm a newbie to Mumsnet myself). Sorry you have been meeting with frustration, but you seem to be keeping your attitude positive.

skatergrrrl--I feel your pain. AF came to visit me today (a day early, no less), so we are now on TTC#2, CD1. But lets hope for better luck this month. (I am trying to find a happy medium between using every gadget and piece of information and trying to relax and just see how things work for a while before I start to get all "scientific" about this.) Any advice ladies? (I'm curious when you started with temperature readings/ovulation kits, etc....)

skihorse--I feel your frustration too...hang in there.

aussieng--After I moved to London (from NY), I only started to make friends after a big break up. You are not the only one! (Although I am still grateful I didn't marry that one....) I'm always surprised at how hard it can be to make friends in a new city, especially one like London.

I hope ALL of the lovely over 30 ladies here are having a wonderful bank holiday and enjoying the gorgeous weather. I'm here in London, but still enjoying the great sunshine and warm weather. Trying to talk DH into a barbeque, but apparently the grill would need to be emptied and cleaned out and we forgot to buy any burgers/sausages, so I am guessing it's a pizza tonight or if I am really lucky, a trip round to the local pub (which, to be fair, is a gastropub). BUT whatever the case I will be enjoying some vino tonight (the upside of AF's arrival this am).

Sending you all x's and o's.

laurielou · 24/05/2009 21:50

Evening ladies,

Sorry I've been away for a while, PC caught some virus or other & DP had dared me to go anywhere near anything (I'm prone to making things worse). But he has worked his magic & here I am again.

AF got me Sat am - b*tch. Feeling pretty damned fed up now as its 2 years since coming off the pill (we haven't quite been trying for the full 2 years, but its still not a good record).

This month I'm determined to temp & all those other wonderfully romantic things.

On the plus side thanks to AF I took some strong painkillers for stomach ache, then polished off a nice bottle of rose with MIL in garden last night whilst DP slaved in the kitchen making a fab beef wellington - lovely!

Welcome to all the newbies, good to have you on board.

skihorse · 25/05/2009 12:36

Happy Monday ladies, I'm sorry to hear you're out this month laurilou.

I'm off to the fertility clinic tomorrow and quite frankly bricking it - it's very grown-up isn't it? Reproductive organs up for the prodding and close scrutiny. Although I suppose it'll hopefully bring us closer to the goal that is shitty nappies, sleepless nights and a total lack of sponteneity, feet-on-the-ground boring hobbies future.

I had a dream last night that I got a "BFP" - I was trying to tell OH at lunchtime on the phone what had happened, he kept saying "ESP?" "ESP?" and seemed to think I meant I was getting him a sport's channel or something. I just about had to spell it out worried that the walls have ears when he burst in with "BIG FAT PREGGO" which made me howl. Close enough... not sure we'd all scream BIG FAT PREGGO with gusto though?

donttrythisathome · 25/05/2009 14:13

Hello all.

Sorry about your news laurie and sarah, and good luck tomorrow ski - maybe try to fool yourself you're looking forward to it? It might work, especially if you have a mindbendingly large gin later?

DP kindly reminded me of the whole stretchmark scenario this morning.

Getting wobbly....

Did some research - apparently you either get them or don't but improving the elasticity/collagen in the skin will help prevent them. So certain vitamins, exercise, drinking water etc.

Re friends, its true a crisis can show who the real ones are.Maybe me and DP should split up
I have talked myself into joining some "groups" down here to meet people.

OP posts:
skihorse · 25/05/2009 14:30

hahaha oh god you've just reminded me of the "people" I met up after a bad break-up 7 years ago. I was determined not to wallow and so via the internet found some expats. I should've known really... people from the internet et al

Anyway, one of them invited me to a BBQ at her place, she was a yank married to a Dutch guy. They decided they wanted to set me up with his brother - this guy had a boil on his neck bigger than my ARSE! OK, so she was a little on the "large" side, no, that's not true. The woman was a spacehopper - now I've battled the bulge myself (still do) - but I don't say "I don't know why I put on weight" as a shovel a cream cake down my gullet. She also completely covered the BBQ with tinfoil so we didn't get cancer. They made me smoke at the bottom of the garden on my own and some of the guest stopped talking to me as a result. The kid... - I'd be burnt at the stake if I told the truth.

Needless to say she was amongst the nicest and most sane present that day.

There was also "I married a heart surgeon" - "oh really, what do you do?", "durrr... I married a heart surgeon". The cougar, British, (yeh, I can talk! ) who met her chap online and left her French hubby and turned up on this Dutch lad's doorstep with a bunch of kids in tow...

I drove away as fast as I could to get to a cocktail, microwave meal for one, sensible conversation with my dog and NEVER, ever, EVER went back.

skihorse · 25/05/2009 14:32

PS Stretchmarks I already have - and can live with... BUT a pregnant friend once showed me this giant STRIPE from mimsy to sternum which meade me feel queazy.

I think the reason I feel bad about the clinic is that I never contemplated I'd be in a position where I couldn't get pregnant... being as I've carefully used contraception to avoid such a scenario.

Hi all - just a quickie - work is evil and keeping me away from you all, welcome to newbies, no news at this end but hopefully proper posting later. Hugs and gin x

Cosmosis · 26/05/2009 10:46

Morning all, hope you had lovely weekends

We had great weather here up north. DH and I did a long and hilly ride on the road on Sunday and a long and hilly ride off road yesterday which nearly killed me!

I'm feeling pretty shitty tbh - back in january at the end of the first month after I came off the pill I had loads of pg symptoms, nausea, lack of energy (particularly noticeable when out on the bike), gassiness, not wanting to drink etc. Well I've got them all again, and of course, again it's when AF should theoretically be here if my cycles have gone back to normal. So I don't know if it's all just my hormones all over the place or what. Think I will test later in the week, just to rule it out really. Then at least I can go back to just waiting for AF! I am still temping but they are being a bit unreliable as had a couple of lie ins etc.

skihorse good luck at the clinic today
laurielou and donttry sorry for your AFs but good luck for a brand new cycle!

Aussieng · 26/05/2009 10:54

Oh bad luck everyone on all the AF's. Here's to next month.

Did you ever hear that thing about how when women live together their cycles harmonise? Do you think that can happen on an internet forum?!?!?!?!

Ski - just think how much fun it will be at some point teaching the nippers how to ski - the tots always look so cute when they are learning - except for when they are taking some kamikaze route that seems to involve skiing between my legs!!!!! And DH and I have been contemplating one of those pull along trailer thingies for the back of our bikes (but HE is definitely pulling that - I can barely stay upright as it is). Other than that - my mum is going to get a lot more hols so she can babysit while we do the high ropes, white water rapids etc etc

I had the horrible ex-pat experience many years ago when my ex was working overseas. I went to visit and got dragged off to this stepford BBQ where I was subjected to various levels of passive (and not so passive) aggressive criticism for daring to have my own (actually better paying) career and not having given it all up to go with him. I had actual shivers down my spine...

Good luck for the up-coming appts etc.

Sarah - I started the temps/ov kits as a birth control method. I've been using that for the last 7 months and quite smug about how successful I was [hmmm]. Now wondering if perhaps it was less my charting ability and more my dried up innards!!

I'm ignoring the charting at present but again had smugly concluded that I always am CL28 and CD14 ov until last month's nonsense so may have to rethink if this month is also wibbly.

skihorse · 26/05/2009 16:58

Back from the hospital - usual questions, have you ever been pg? do you have sex? any STDs etc., etc. Then she said she wanted to examine the both of us and sent me off to get "undressed" - please note, that's the word she used.

i) OH gets his willy and balls inspected and is asked to pull back his foreskin. To his horror there is a rogue dog-hair under his foreskin. I trust that wee titbit will make its way back to the staff canteen.

ii) OH just about falls off his chair laughing as I come out of the loo stark bollock naked but for a bra. She said "er... I only meant your bottom half" and I just shrugged and said "well I'm here now"

iii) Speculum to have a good look at my cervix, all good.

iv) Then fingers for a feel

v) Dildocam - wow! Was not expecting that. Uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries all present and correct. One ovary showing a small pocket of fluid which apparently is evidence of ovulation this month.

Told to go back in November if still not PG as we appear normal. I did ask her if OHs bits were normal and he went shockingly red haha.

Upon leaving I told him that was the closest he was ever getting to a threesome!

VeryAnnieMary · 26/05/2009 17:54

Oh Ski - hope you're having a big gin to get over all that! - great news on "normality" diagnosis (always reassuring!). Uto-cam sounds terrifying-but-fascinating!

VeryAnnieMary · 26/05/2009 17:55

Cosmo - hormones are a right b*gger, chin up girly x

makingafamily · 26/05/2009 18:39

Hey ladies

I joined this thread a while ago and although have been lurking and giggling at your antics havent posted ina while but after spitting coffee over the laptop thanks to Ski's DH and the stray dog hair thought i would say hi again

Well, we've still got two cats and white walls and i'm still a rose loving occasional cosmo slipping lush. Although am on best 2ww behaviour at the moment after finally managing an IUI at the weekend after jabbing myself and being dildo cam'd everyother day for the last fortnight

Sorry about the AF's but good luck for the next cycle

Rhubarbcrumblecake · 26/05/2009 20:49

Hello - can I boldly request membership?

I have the following creds to offer: I'm early 30s, I respect la gin but can mostly be found clutching a glass of wine, I have a dog, a cat and a husband, my walls are B&Q value PBW (but my bathroom floor is F&B darling) and I have a strong aversion to phrases such as babydust.

As I type I am CD2 and correspondingly downing unit no 4 of the evening after 2 weeks of thorough abstinence. Will I do?!

skihorse · 27/05/2009 08:22

Aussieng Yes, the littlun will learn to ski - however for the first couple of years it will be stuffed in to daycare so I can have some fun!

I feel your paint about the Stepford Wives, not only am I a "career woman", but my OH is a house-husband. Sacre bleu!

Welcome to the two newbies - glad you enjoyed the dog hair story. You might all want to ask your partners to have a quick check should you find yourselves in a similar position.

Rhubarb - babydust is twee - but I find equally offensive TMI; ohmygod I wantababy but I don't wanttotalk about my fagina/fandango/fooey/snatch and I'm sooooo embarassed I HAVE MUCUS!

I'm due any day now and don't think I've pulled it on this month because I've got a few spots coming on my chin and cramps... plus I'm sure she'd have seen something on dildocam yesterday and said something had there been anything alive in there.

VeryAnnieMary · 27/05/2009 08:47

Rhubarb - excellent credentials, welcome!

makingafamily - of course we remember you, welcome back, how the devil are you?

As far as abstinence is concerned, I'm sure I made-up saw on a thread here that the bunch of cells doens't take from the bloodstream until 6 weeks anyway so an occasional gin in the 2ww window is fine.

VeryAnnieMary · 27/05/2009 08:48

Er - for 'bunch of cells' read 'burgeoning offspring'...am clearly in a romantic mood this morning....

Cosmosis · 27/05/2009 09:40

"do you have sex?"

fuck it, so that's where we've been going wrong

skihorse · 27/05/2009 10:43

Cosmosis OH told me that he almost burst with male pride when I answered "4/5 times a week" - he felt this was a studly enough assertion!

skihorse · 27/05/2009 10:45

PS we were asked some really dumb and patronising questions. I was also criticised for my weight and whilst I know I need to lose some pounds, I work out HARD ~8/10 times a week and I have F-cup tits. I am never, never, ever going to weigh 7 stone.

But despite my protestations I know she had me down as a hob-nob eating Jeremy Kyle watching fat slag.

Aussieng · 27/05/2009 14:00

You guys are too funny - it's very difficult to keep coming up with excuses at work for snorting salad out my nose!

You have to wonder about the kind of muppets they get in those clininc if "do you have sex" is still required to be on the info request list

I take it she didn't feel the need to clarify "other than with the dog"

Anyway *Ski" if you were 7 stone they'd start to nag you about being too skinny - you can't win with these people!

I'm happy to ban baby dust and TMI from this thread but think we should definitely add BoC (Bunch of Cells) to the list!

CD7 - starting to crank my way up to the A game...

skihorse · 27/05/2009 14:19

Aussieng - not just "Do you have sex?", but, "Do you ejaculate in her vagina?" WTF? You mean it's NOT supposed to be dripping from the light bulb and running down the dog's face?
