Home births are great for every age as long as you have had a problem free pregnancy, have a positive mental attitude, have a willing and helpful partner and have done your research.

The best bit of advice I got for dealing with contractions was to imagine a duck trying to stay afloat as the waves (contractions) wash over.

Just as it gets intense with the 'typhoon' conditions, they ease off again and you take that time to catch your breathe. (This would all go out the window if you've been induced artificially)

I had a bit of anaemia which was remedied with liquid iron (tablets make you constipated).

I made a point of not eating any more than normal, basically fruit, veg, fish, cheese (they say no brie, camambert or blue cheese but I got round that one by melting it first), sunday roasts, lots of Japanese, traditional English breakfast fry ups, including soft boiled eggs (have my own hens).

No wheat, bics or chips as did not want to feel bloated.

My babies were v. healthy, huge (I'm 5'4'' 8st 3 to 10st when pregnant)

Lost the lot when breastfeeding as it's 100s of calories a shot!)

laurielou · 07/04/2009 20:49

Evening ladies,

Haven't been ignoring you, work has been a btch today - rather I've been working with a btch today - sorry for the coursness!!!

But she stopped me thinking of babies for at least a nano-second, so I should be grateful.

My details are TTC#1, CD24, UCL 30.

I came off the pill June 07 after spending a weekend with our newborn nephew. We stopped trying for a couple of months when we battled with baby v holidays. The holiday won, and we went to Las Vegas!!

It is a hell of a choice, especially when your in your 30's as you usually have a pretty comfortable life. But certain things have happened that have made me think I've done the comfortable for a bit, bring on the mayhem!

when I've been with friends who have kids its chaotic. I used to love coming home to my quiet, cream house. Now it seems TOO quiet and TOO cream. So......

Welcome aboard to all the newcomers. Here's to our first BFP, x

Liskey · 08/04/2009 08:14

Hi all

Cheers for the messages re mmc - we're going to keep trying and hoping for that BFP.

I have got a child substitute in a cat though - am I still allowed to join this theread? Spoiled rotten cuddle monster that she is - left her snuggling on DH in bed this morning

VeryAnnieMary · 08/04/2009 08:46

Sorry Pistachio, not sure why you didn't come up in bold then! Hope everyone's well this morning and knackered after humping all night

skihorse · 08/04/2009 09:07

Laurielou I hope you have good news coming, and yes I totally get the holidays thing.

If I don't get pregnant this month then I'm tempted to pull out of the race until October or so, so that I don't miss my 2010 ski season.

If I can get pregnant this month then I can still ski.

No humping for me last night, had a massive session at the gym in the morning then rode my horse after work. Got home and sat on the sofa watching the IT crowd. Poor fella bless him!

Cosmosis · 08/04/2009 10:24

Liskey, I have two of those child substitutes and thoroughly spoiled they are too!

VAM I think you need to put asterisks round both words;

skihorse cycle 6, UCL26, CD4
VeryAnnieMary cycle 2, UCL(appears to be)49 (this month), CD8
donttrythisathome cycle 2, UCL 28-33ish, CD15

Cosmosis cycle 1, CD107, UCL ??

Cosmosis · 08/04/2009 11:45

well, 1st acupuncture session booked for next week. It had better word because it is not cheap!

PistachioLemon · 08/04/2009 15:20

Does that mean we all have animals? I have two cats who are definitely baby substitutes. Oh God, we are the cat ladies.

Cos, hope the acupuncture goes well. Let us know how you get on - I was thinking about reflexology but would give anything a go to be honest. And CD107 how have you managed? I have the jitters already and I'm on CD27.

Cosmosis · 08/04/2009 15:49

Mad cat ladies from the Simpsons?? that's me!

Luckily worry about the certainty of my job future, building work on the house, a time consuming and expensive hobby and booking a holiday for September are taking my mind off things nicely

Liskey · 08/04/2009 18:28

Liskey CD 20 UCL 27-32 following a mmc and flu my cycle is being erratic - used to be a reliable 28 days

skihorse · 08/04/2009 18:44

Two dogs and one horse... no cat at present.

donttrythisathome · 08/04/2009 19:11

I have no animals at all, but I do have EWCM and a positive OPK so its BD time for me tonight. DP has been forewarned.

Laurie, jealous of your nice cream house - mine is mid-renovation (and has been for coming up to 3 years).

SIL is getting acupuncture as she is having trouble TCC- apparently she had endometriosis.

Might try the role play suggested by skihorse, LOL

We repainted last year and its shades of cream - so another one for a cream house!

skihorse · 09/04/2009 08:31

VeryAnnieMary That's hilarious!

kidowner · 09/04/2009 09:30

Yes, cream house,(wipeable walls!) oak floors so easy to clean.

Household rules: shoes off, muddy boots taken off outside, sit down (in kitchen) to eat, tidy up after yourselves (baby ds copies others so learning by action not words hehe),first person down to empty dishwasher gets to choose shelf with minimum in it hehe)

Goats, chucks, ducks, dog, donkey, frogs (found earthworm motel but luckily outside in shoe box)

Star chart for being kind to others and being helpful (100 stars= family outing)

Haven't got a teenager yet so may not work then!

Cosmosis · 09/04/2009 09:43

lol our house is also cream and oak floors.

Kidowner do you really have goats, ducks, chickens & donkey??? Sooo jealous!!!!

kidowner · 09/04/2009 14:38

Yes, but I had a wish how I wanted my children's childhood to be and then set about obtaining it by hook or by crook.

Not wealthy by many standards, bought land with crap house then took 10 yrs doing it up. Animals are rescued.

Everything we have is secondhand. It's amazing how much is spent on baby things, easy to forget a baby is only a baby for about 12 months then toddlers!

Dh took a huge pay cut to live rurally, my career has taken a backseat too. But hey, they are only small once.

Dc are into High School Musical but also donkey grooming + veg growing!

Main thing is: good state schools, so probably saved ourselves a fortune.

donttrythisathome · 09/04/2009 15:19

Respect kidowner.

DP and I want the land and chucks idyll too, but again not rich at all. But I agree there's no need to spend too much. When my brother and baby DN visited I got cot, bath etc for her from freecycle. And really there's no need to buy them clothes as you could just ask family/friends for hand-downs (when little nippers anyway).

I actually fancy getting together with like-minded people and sharing land with allotments, chickens etc, but private houses. Like an anti-social commune!

mylovelymonster · 09/04/2009 15:34

Hello spring chickens )

I had my baby at 37. Completely trouble-free pregnancy, ok labour, gorgeous now two-and-a-bit year-old. Am now ripe old age of 40 and am pregnant again (two months so early days and morning sickness).

Go for it and enjoy and don't think about your age!
Lots of luck to you x

mylovelymonster · 09/04/2009 15:40

.....also, if you're not getting anywhere after 6 months - don't panic! If you're over 35 go to the GP, they will take a blood sample at a partiklar time in your cycle to check your FSH/LH levels for reassurance, and you can chart your cyclical early-morning temperature for a few months, and if it's within usual profile that will give you confidence you're ovulating and which week in your cycle is best to aim majority of the action, but really don't pressure yourself. Can take one month or 12 - if everything looks ok, it's not considered to be a problem to take a year to concieve. Took us 13 months. Second pregnancy took 3 (at 40!) Still can't get over it.....

VeryAnnieMary · 10/04/2009 10:18

Happy Good Friday all, and fertilised eggs all round.
