I'm glad I'm in such wonderful, face-stuffing 40+ company - it's always so good to know you're not alone in all of this.

I tried ironing with extra gusto this afternoon to burn off the ice cream from lunchtime

cece · 08/09/2008 19:00

sussex, I can beat you DS was 11 lbs 4 oz!

xserialshopper · 08/09/2008 19:00

Welcome sussex and kiwi You're in good company here.

OP posts:
sussexoldspot · 08/09/2008 19:05

cece with that, you've made my knees go a bit funny . Did you manage a vb? Unfortunately (cough, cough) I didn't.

cece · 08/09/2008 19:10

Oh yes just about! There were lots of mw and docs in the room by the time he was born. Poor DH was pushed to the corner... He was in distress because the cord was around his neck so not to do with his size though...

I have childbearing hips clearly

sussexoldspot · 08/09/2008 19:22

[speechless with utter admiration for cece emoticon]

KiwiKat · 08/09/2008 21:45

Ooh, Cece, OUCH!

rowingboat · 08/09/2008 21:57

Hi Sussex old spot, curious name, it sounds like a breed of pig. I'm sorry to hear about your MC's, but on the plus side you do sound very fertile.
Hi again Kiwi, where have you been? Has much been happening on the TTC front?
My eyes are watering at the thought of those huuge babies. Are you both quite tall?
How are you feeling now Cece? Did you get your LO from school?
Jassara, well done on the sit-ups!!

sussexoldspot · 08/09/2008 22:36

Yes, as I mentioned to roque, having had a huge baby at the age of 39, i do look curously sow-like when lying sideways, hence the name I will lose weight! I will! I will! (opens pack of biscuits whilst googling crash diets). I'm 5'9", dp is 6'4". Are you tall too, cece?

Hmm, haven't looked at it like that before, rowingboat, I'd just assumed the mcs have come as a result of shrivelling ovaries. Had started having tests for perimenopause when I fell pg last month, but progesterone levels were less than 30, so think this'll have to be monitored now. Has anyone else been through these tests and come out the other side with good advice?

roquefortlover · 08/09/2008 22:44

I join rowing with watering eyes at cece's prowess... right, off to ravish dh now as I have a "high" on the Clearblue monitor and he is away tomorrow!

rowingboat · 09/09/2008 10:09

Hi Sussex, I have known a few tall couples who had larger babies. One was the longest baby born in the region, although I don't think she was very heavy, just very long.
Did you gain weight after your baby? I put on quite a bit whilst breastfeeding and didn't lose much until a year ago. I think I am within the normal range for my height and build, but would love to be fitter and feel happier wearing a t-shirt. I hate having clothes I can't wear.
We have had the standard day three and day 21 tests run (day 21 twice for some reason).
I wish I could tell you what my progesterone results were, but the consultant that we saw didn't seem to want to trouble us with any information. Rather like being a school child - don't think he thought we would understand.
I do know my last FSH, but I think that's because I kept asking him.
Can anyone tell me how I can see my NHS files, I would love to see the results in detail.
Hope your DH was behaving last night Roque!

sussexoldspot · 09/09/2008 13:10

Ooh, roque that had better not have been your bedsprings keeping us awake last night . Good luck, really hope for you that cb high brings forth fruit!

God, yes, I really gained weight after having DS, but lost it and more over 6 months at the gym and lots of healthy eating. Almost got to the point of quite liking the look of myself. Then mmc at Christmas sent me back to the cake tin and have just been ballooning ever since. Know what you mean about the clothes

You have a right to see your NHS files - I've seen a poster up in my GP's surgery about it. Am back at work tomorrow (I work in the NHS, albeit with rather forgetful older people), will ask how you go about it and report back.

roquefortlover · 09/09/2008 13:37

Hello all - dh has been working from home this morning so no chance for any Mnetting! Last night was most satisfactory thankyou Sussex and Rowing - for some reason I feel all optimistic this month too but even if no luck getting pg we are having fun trying!

Rowing, it's very annoying when doctors do that isn't it - i have noticed they now often ask "have you been looking on the internet?' in a rather patronising way if you offer a comment about something they regard as the preserve of the medical profession. I always feel they should be pleased we are well informed!

Welcome kiwikat! And cece hope you are feeling better today.

Right, here is list with my new age. But, I wonder if we should start list again from scratch as I think loads of those on it aren't "around" any more. What do people think?

cece · 09/09/2008 13:39

Not that tall, only 5 foot 7 and DH 6 foot. But we are both the shortest in our family so lots of tall people that could have passes on their genes.

He was very long and never even had a roll of fat. He seems to have heavy bones though as I have friends with older children who are the same size as him and they are really light to pick up! DS is about half a kilo lighter than his sister who is 2 and half years older!? Also head and shoulders taller than most of his new classmates in Reception.

I don't understand it really as DD was a normal size and still is?!

As for me, seeing as the doc told me to lose weight then yes I am too heavy by far. I lost a fair bit last year, got pg then mc then ate for England... On the bright side I think I have lost about half a stone or maybe a bit more in the two weeks of my current diet.

roquefortlover · 09/09/2008 13:59

well done with the diet, that's great! Are you doing any particular one or just cutting down .

cece · 09/09/2008 14:12

Three meals a day (but trying to have low cal option if possible and smaller portions) and no snacking. If hangry between meals I am only allowing myself fruit.

roquefortlover · 09/09/2008 14:41

hmm, that sounds good - I lost about a stone last year doing something similar altho' have put it all on and more since the cp/mc.

I REALLY MUST try and lose some weight again - wine and choc are my downfall atm, plus our portion sizes have crept up...

rowingboat · 09/09/2008 17:11

Sussex, that would be very helpful if you would investigate the files thing. Thanks! I hesitate to think what's in there though.
Roque I faintly remember being asked something about the internet, but I think it was a GP.
I think we should suggest 'they' try looking on the internet as well, rather than relying on medical training that's twenty years out of date.
Cece, well done on the weight loss!
It must the be the tall genes in the family with your DS. Mind you, 5'7 is still two or three inches above the average for a woman.
My DS is on the 25th centile for height, he's one of the diddiest in his pre-school and he doesn't have much hair either, like a big toddler.
Oo, I've heard back from another IVF clinic, this time in Bulgaria. Not my first choice for a holiday.

rowingboat · 09/09/2008 17:13

It might be an idea to update the list.
How about this for a start

Rowingboat 42

sussexoldspot · 09/09/2008 19:41

No probs at all, rowingboat. Am very new to this thread and am not sure whether you have any children already, but I really hope the IVF works for you. I'm sure we'll end up along that route, too, in the coming months.

Good point about the GPs, too. We have three GPs at our village practice (all of whom have 4 perfect, lovely kids, grr). I once took DS in with a nasty rash. The doc said he didn't know what it was, asked if I'd consulted the internet and what we thought the rash was .

cece am going to take a leaf from your book with healthy eating and smaller portions. Not tonight though, as DP has just gone out in the rain for haddock, chips and mushy peas .

I'll add me to the new list:

don't get me started on doctors and their ludicrous assumption that all their patients are stupid and unable to read...
