I've decided to start the new thread

Anyone coming to join me?

I've added me as well. I'm the oldest, rather wrinkled and trying for baby number 1. I'm not the Tabitha shown half way down that other list, by the way.

Hi gorgeous 40 somethings! I AM here, lurking about from time to time in a "trying not to obssess too much about TTC" sort of way but most def here in spirit when I'm not typing!

Good luck all, I'm on day 15 of my chaotic cycles so fingers crossed for some babymaking (again!!!!!) this week.

Rhet you are absolutely right about the assumption that we can't read or comprehend our symptoms. Although I do need DP to read this thread to me and turn on and off the computer. [confused face]

Have been feeling so much more positive since finding this thread and have booked in to see GP on Tues to demand my second child! Yes, the worm has turned!

Ooh, need a lie-down, now.

rowingboat · 10/09/2008 10:11

Morning Sussex, better watch out, if your GP is male, he may think you are looking for a bit of action.
Quite right though, I think I went after pretty soon after deciding to TTC again (kind of exaggerated the length of time we had been trying, to get a quicker response). It did help me to know what was going on physically. I have a blocked tube and possible damage to the other, which is not helping!!! I'm afraid I am going to take a lot longer to conceive than most other women my age because of the stoopid tubes. Ah well, at least I don't appear to have any hormonal issues (other than PMS). I feel as if, if I can do IVF I stand a good chance because I sailed through the last pregnancy.
Doing passports today and car insurance.
Passports, gigantic rip-off, it's going to cost the best part of £200 for the passports. Both DP's passport and mine expired and we have been holidaying in the UK, because we can't be bothered with the travel. I hope we aren't strip-searched or whatever it is they do for the extra money these days.

sussexoldspot · 10/09/2008 10:30

£200 for passports? Jeesus! Mind you, it's a right rip off holidaying in the UK, sometimes. We rented a little cottage late last October, not even July, in Cornwall and it came out at over a grand just for a week . And there was no heating

Totally agree with you that it helps to know what the problem is. Then at least you can get it treated or try through other means, as you are. We don't seem to have any probs conceiving, or haven't so far, it's just holding on to them that's the problem here. Was it you that had contacted Bulgaria, rowingboat? If you don't mind me asking, what has sent you abroad?

Oh Lord, my GP! He's young, handsome, caring and has 4 kids, so obviously fertile. In fact, what made me think that my last pg was going to stick, was not only that the nausea started early, but that I started with the saucy dreams. I had quite a graphic one involving my GP and Marilyn Manson. Both at the same time! (Sorry, TMI). Am not quite sure how I'm going to look him in the eye on Tues

daisy5 · 10/09/2008 10:51

Hello all

Just had a cycle where I was absolutely convinced I was pregnant, but was not. It has occurred to me that as with my last (unsuccessful) pregnancy I had no symptoms at all, maybe I should get excited when I have no symptoms!!!

Now one year on since I first thought I was pregnant with no.2 and am starting to feel 'weary'. But if that sounds all 'doom and gloom' then it's worth considering that I have only spent 3 months of the past year actively trying to get pregnant and did succeed but had a miscarriage at 3 months. That makes it sound quite positive doesn't it.

Alors!!!

Hope you are all well. I shall now go back to 'lurking' as I don't feel like thinking about it much this month, and anyway, my dp and I are on such bad terms at the moment that bding this weekend is highly unlikely and then he is flying away on business. So a Gemini is unlikely and now wondering what a Cancer child would be like to have - romantic and sensitive?

rowingboat · 10/09/2008 10:57

Sussex, that is a ridiculous price for one week. I suppose it depends on the size of house etc... Did it have a pool?
.
Luckily we can still get holidays out of peak season, but I dread to think when DS starts primary school.
The schools break up, and return two or three weeks earlier in Scotland, so there are a few weeks when it is still a bit cheaper to go to England or Scotland on hols, I'm hoping that we can exploit those to keep the costs slightly lower.
The reasons I am looking at IVF out of the UK are; the costs of the procedures and drugs are lower, many clinics will transfer more embryos than the UK, which is better for us more mature folks and we get a two week holiday thrown in. I think the costs will probably work out the same with accommodation and flights on top of treatment, but I prefer the idea of going somewhere interesting to take the edge of the stress involved in fertility treatment.
I have found a couple of great forums, where overseas IVF is discussed in depth. This helps to boost my confidence, since there are quite a few active 'abroadies' bumps forums, where successful IVF'ers post their progress.

sussexoldspot · 10/09/2008 11:08

Have read this with great interest, rowingboat and will follow your progress with great interest. Totally understand the need for a holiday - it did cross my mind that we could do something similar, whilst having the hol of a lifetime somewhere like India. Maybe getting away from familiar surroundings also helps to ease the tension of it all. Wish you all the luck in the world. Haven't forgotten re the NHS files, btw.

Hi there, daisy - really sorry to hear your news and agree totally that symptoms are a rubbish sign of absolutely nothing

sussexoldspot · 10/09/2008 11:10

.. oh, and no, it didn't have a pool. Mind you, fatso here gave up swimsuits long ago!

jassara · 10/09/2008 11:17

Hi everyone. Sussex had to laugh at your saucy dream involving your GP, I get verywhen
a young male doctor has to look at my lady bits - even more so if they're good looking!!

jassara thank you so much for your kind wishes!

Called a few weeks ago to book a smear test and was told the 'nurse who does smears' was on holiday, but my GP could do it instead. 'Oh God, no', I said. 'That's what they all say', laughed the receptionist. So it's not just us, jassara.

Right, have to go to work now. Grr, spoiling my MN fun! Have a great day, everyone.

Look here but not hopeful as line very faint and temperature has dropped...

sussexoldspot · 10/09/2008 16:33

rowingboat just to let you know, you can access your medical records back to 1996 (I think). What you need to do is put your request in writing to your GP and they must respond within 15 days. You can then go in to view your file (a member of the practice team will be present). From what I understand here, though, those providing the information reserve the right to remove anything that they deem would be 'distressing to the patient'.

Hope this helps!

roquefortlover · 10/09/2008 16:34

Oh cece, I do hope that the faint line becomes a big thick one for you! Fingers crossed!

rowingboat · 10/09/2008 17:42

Cece, I'm not very good with temps, but the positive line is fantastic news. I'm sending you sticky vibes.
Sussex, thank you for that info! For 'distressing' I am guessing we could read 'insulting' comments which may upset the patient.
Any more bfps???

cece · 10/09/2008 17:47

Thanks not allowing myself to get excited yet. Will give it a week or so and then maybe allow myself to think about it. Very scared though.

rhetorician · 10/09/2008 18:08

cece oh fingers crossed for you; if you are as obsessive as I am you can look at other similar charts on FF - I think often there's a dip. A faint line is a BFP, but I can understand your caution and respect it.

Daisy 5 oh I hear you! as I imagine everyone on this thread does. You are not alone...

jassara · 10/09/2008 19:26

Cece, I'm not a temping expert, but doesn't your temp drop when implantation occurs..? How many DPO are you..? It may add up if your line is very faint...
