First time TTC?!! Let's get through this together!!

Hi All,

This is a difficult time for most women (and men) I think.

Certainly for me, I've waited a long time to get to this stage , having not met Mr Right until the age of 31. Now 34 and got married 2 months ago and now want to complete the family!

So, just started "trying" for a baby and due to my impatient nature, have already started using Ovulation Kits. (Probably not a good idea). I also did the Female Fertility Test and that seemed to have a good result aswell.

I was on Dianette for 8 years and came off of it 3 years ago. My cycles became regular again but every 5 weeks instead of 4. I had previously come off of the pill for 6 months and my cycles were regular, so I guess all this is a good sign.

Anyone else had similar experiences and fallen pregnant quickly? I know everyone's different but any good news stories help move us all along!! .

I had the same problem with the Ov tests to be honest. 1st day very faint line, next day very dark line (but not as dark as test line), next day faint line and then the two days after that, no line at all... Very bizarre...

Lucky you to already have a DS. Only planning to have one, but who knows what might happen... We've got twins in our family (my Uncle and Auntie on my Dad's side) and no-one in our three families has had them yet, maybe it will be me!!

Well ladies, I'm off to watch "Gossip Girl" now and have an early night. I've been told today that doing BD every night is detrimental to the TTC process, so giving hubby the night off - .

I do feel very lucky to have my DS..i've been reading the posts on here & it really brings it home how difficult it often is to conceive. My DS was conceived while I was in Egypt, and I had a dodgy tummy at the start f the hols, so my pills can't have worked! It seems crazy that it can happen like that sometimes.
I reckon that now I'm trying, it will take forever to get pg!

Crunchy My periods regulated pretty quickly after I came off DP. I think I got them at the usual intervals straight away, but they were exceedingly light and short to begin with. I've never got heavy periods anyway, but after about 3 months I got back to my usual 3 days of light bleeding.

Dawn and City, ov tests can be confusing. It's very easy to miss your LH surge if you only test once a day (and even if you test more than that). After using opks for a month or two I worked out that I pretty much didn't get a line at all unless I was very close to ovulating, so I didn't have to look out for the very dark line. If I got a line with any decent amount of colour in it, I knew I was ovulating on that day. It will be different for different people though.

City BDing every day is not usually detrimental to the ttc process unless your OH has sub-fertility issues. In fact the most common reason for failure to conceive is not BDing enough, so I'd be wary of limiting it. Men produce squillions (or thereabouts - LOL) of sperm each time they ejaculate, even if you BD the previous day, so you don't need to worry about giving him time to replenish. The sperm that are ejaculated were formed three months previously anyway.

Sounds like your periods may be like mine then. I don't feel so bad now. I never had bad ones either.

I've heard a lot of people talk about PCO (Polycystic Ovaries). Does anyone know what the REAL symptoms are. I think when you're TTC you imagine that every possible blocker to it in the world, you have.... Just want to rule it out.....

Hi, i've been lurking here for a while too researching things a little and scaring myself about child birth!! We are planning to start trying very soon for our first. I have endo and have just completed a 6 month course of zoladex 6 weeks ago in preperation for trying. Just waiting for my cycle to return now. Preparing myself for the worst to be honest but we won't know until we try. We only got married in October although we have been together for 10 yrs and i am getting really sick of people asking when we will have kids as if its the easiest thing in the world, when, as posts on here show, that isn't always the case.

I know exactly what you mean. I've only been married 3 months but since I'm 34, I've still been asked why I haven't got children.

I have to admit that I've always had some sick feeling in my stomach that I might have problems, no reason for it, a feeling. But as I'm only in the first month of trying, don't feel that I can run to the GP quite yet .

My sister's just been diagnosed with Endo, but she is young, only 22, so hopefully there will be plenty of time to help her along. They just performed an op and found a cist on one of her ovaries aswell, so they removed that at the same time.

I think some people refrain from telling you the really yucky stories about childbirth until you're PG and can't do anything about it - ....

I've got loads of good TTC advice from the ladies on various threads, so if I can help, I will although I'm still a definite novice!!

I'm glad i'm not the only lurker Fairwing! I am trying to think positive thoughts Dawn- what are these ov test you are all talking about though? My hubby has just landed as he has been working away all week so i'm hoping we'll have a nice night! xx

Thanks by the way Yarnie- it's been about 3(maybe 4) weeks and i still have no period so was worrying a little. I suppose that isnt too long really it's just that I sort of had a feeling I would return to normal quite quickly- guess i thought cos im quite young or something! I'm sure it'll be soon enough!

Thanks Dawn I'm only 25 so im hoping if i cant get pregnant naturally there will be things they can do to help. Dr has already mentioned IVF but i really don't want to think about all that at this stage.

I've felt like a bit of a fraud lurking for a while as i'm not pregnant or actually trying to conceive yet, so i was glad to see this thread

I'm sorry to be the dumb one (again!) but what is endo? it sounds like you are being well looked after though if you have had discussions with both your husband and the doctor. just think- we can all meet up when we finally get our little ones :-)

Hey crunchy, how was your day?! I'm sooooo glad that it's Friday.

The OV tests are a kit, like the PG test that you can buy in the chemists. You basically work out the dates/days that you're due to ovulate and they can can tell you when the peak time is. They're the typical "peeonastick" ones!!

I actually bought some on line last week. Ordered them on Friday about this time from www.homehealth-uk.com along with a Female Fertility Test (yes I really am that paranoid ) and they arrived on the Saturday morning. Much cheaper aswell - i got 15 tests for £9.99. Usuall £9.99 for around 5 in the shops!!

The Female Fertility Test shows whether your levels of FSH hormone are too high, which shows reduced fertility. Luckily, mine was completely blank which shows little or no FSH, which is a good thing. Apparently, the older you are and the less fertile you are, more FSH is present...

Did the OV test again today and the line was much darker which makes me think that it could be the right time to do it, especially since I want a girl!!

Feels a bit cheeky to be fussy, but we can all be a bit cheeky sometimes!!

fairywing don't feel like a fraud, this is literally my first month of TTC (in fact just two weeks) so we're all frauds really... Once you get to month two, you're a pro - ha ha ha!!!

and it's not cheeky at all- I really have my heart set on twins, i would like a boy and a girl (have 3nephews and i'm very girly so want to buy pretty dresses!) We can dream can't we!

I think I would be scared at this point to take a fertility test... give it a month or so i think!

Oh Crunchy, we can certainly dream!! We've already chosen names, but I think anyone that gets serious does that - even if they're not trying for kids.

Sadly DH and I are fans of "The OC" so have decided on Marissa (Missy for short) for a girl and Ryan for a boy. Would really want twins aswell but if we had a boy and a girl, would definitely need to change the names because Marissa and Ryan would be REALLY SAD!!

Anyway, onto more serious things. I have a question to ask everyone. You know that when you start thinking about children you start to imagine all the things that could be wrong with you... Well I've had this pain around my "pubic" area for quite some time now. But it's not so much cramps or anything like that, it's almost like muscle pain, like I've pulled a muscle or something, but it's on both sides....

Of course I'm imagining all sorts like Polycystic ovaries or twisted fallopian tubes... Drama queen that I am. Has anyone else experienced anything like that?

Oh god- don't start on names!! We can not agree- i think we have gone through every possible name in the world and just can't agree! I like your choices though- we have been worse agreeing on boys names to be honest.

I haven't experienced anything like that, i'm sorry. Maybe you have just pulled something? It sounds like you have had lots of baby making practise so maybe you just, got a bit carried away?? If we have a good week I get cramps in my hips! lol.

I must apologise for my awful spelling mistake in previous message too! (how embarrasing for an English teacher lol- having crap time at work though so my brain does not function when i get home! if that's an excuse!)

So, did my OV test again today and think ov'ing in the next couple of days - lucky DH!! By the way, if you're confused by the acronyms(like I was), next to useful stuff at the top of the page, is an acronym list!

Definately get it checked, they say your most likely to conceive when your relaxed so anything to alleviate stress must be good! I'm sure it will be fine but fingers crossed for you anyway!

6 months??!! If I'm not pregnant in 2 months I'm going off to Romania to buy a child!! . Only joking - ha ha!!

Seriously though, don't quite know yet how long I'm going to give it 'cos being 34 I don't want to wait too long. Might give until Xmas and then tell the GP that I've been trying for a year.. . Sneaky but needs must!!

Crunchy, endo is endometriosis. Its where bits of the lining of the womb 'escape' and attach themselved and grow on other organs, usually in the pelvic area, in my case on my bladder, which is fairly rare according to my consultant, it is also rare for it to be diagnosed this young, infact, they wouldn't diagnose me for a long time as i was thought to be simply too young to have it . Then those 'growths' become inflammed and painful around the time of my period, resulting in my case in an inflammed and angry bladder. Some of the adhesions can stick organs together too. Mine is fairly bad but not as bad as some people. Normally, for 2 weeks out of 4 i am in agony, literally. I have several different types of pain associated with it. There are normally 2 days a month - the first and second of my period - that i literally can't get myself out of bed with the pain. Then throughout the two weeks i get contraction like pain that can stop me in my tracks and take my breath away. Can be very embarassing on top of everything. I also get intense burning in my bladder before , after and during urinating. When i'm at work i have to go in the disabled loos so i can grab hold of the hand rail and try to muffle my screams . The good thing is i have not had to have a period every month for years now and the inbetween niggles arent to bad for me. I have been running the pill on for months at a time and had two courses of injections (including the most recent) that has put me into a false menopause for 6 months. This has the added benefit of 'tidying' the endo up so that surgery can be more effective. Unfortunately the last lot i had didn't work. I also worry what all of this is doing to my fertility. My endo didn't effect my ovaries when i was last operated on a few years ago which is good but its presence is still thought to have an effect on fertility wherever it is.

Phew sorry about the essay!!! I am very anxious about the idea of having periods every month again when they restart while we conceive and then there is the added complication of the fact that i can think of nothing worse than having sex when things are bad.

Lol, I also have been a "lurker" on this website for a few weeks now although we've just started TTC this week.
I have quite normal 5 week cycles but think we missed the ovulation boat by a couple of days - no harm trying anyway though!

I am 32 and been married for 2yrs so getting loads of questions about when we are going to have kids - people can be sooo rude!

Also been a bit concerned with all the miscarriage stories in other threads

On a positive note, my sister who hasn't practically had a period since she was 16 due to anorexia etc, has just found out shes 6 months pregnant!!!! So theres hope for everyone!

Fingers crossed for us all!

FAIRYWING- that sounds such an awful thing to have lived with. It must have been diffcult too with the doctors refusing to diagnose you earlier I hope you are recovering well after the operation though and i will keep everything crossed for you. I'm sure when your babies do arrive they will be loved more than anything. Thank you for the explanation, I am very naive (lol) i'm glad i can try to understand how difficult things have been for you though now!

lINWIN- Hello and welcome! we are all very new on here and are all having very different experiences which i think is lovely to help support each other! I was hoping to keep things very natural as it is very early days but i agree- the horror stories on other threads can be quite a worry. I honestly hadn't realised miscarriages were so common.

On a more positive note! Congratulations to your sister! I hope all her health problems are behind her and everything goes well for her and her baby :-)

Oh and DAWN- that sounds a good idea lol lying to the doctor hmmm, maybe a little treatment may help my chances for my lovely twins lol then again knowing my luck i'd probably end up with 6! lol. I'm trying really hard not to get too worried- my hubby thinks a couple of months to return to normal cylces is 'normal' (I don't know who he's speaking too lol) but i really did think i'd have some signs after 3 weeks...

By the way... i fell asleep during the film, my hubby then woke me at the end and told me how brilliant it was and because i'm not very nice when i am sleepy we didn't get round to trying to make any babies- i just went back to sleep! I am useless!

Fairywing so sorry about everything that you've been through. My sister's only just been diagnosed aswell but hopefully they've got all the nasties out... I know what you mean about the sex thing and I don't even have Endo as a reason, I generally just can't be bothered. So much for all the "Sex drive peaking at 30" stuff, maybe they just meant "For your 30th Birthday" and after that it drops down again !!

So, I've got another interesting one to throw into the mix.

Apparently, the first symptom of pregnancy for a lot of people is sore boobs. Well, I had a breast augmentation about 5 years ago (for the normal of us - boob job!! ) purely because I'd spent most of my life being the butt of all jokes!! And the only downside of that for me (not that I'd change my puppies for the world now!!) is that I have no feeling in them. It happens to a few people that have it done, unfortunately I'm one of them.

So, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when I get PG. Will I feel them? What about when I try to breastfeed?!!!

Anyone any experience of that one?!!
