TTC after early miscarriage

1000 replies

RaisingCornishWildlings · 24/10/2023 09:59

Morning!
So I sadly suffered an early miscarriage at 5w just over a fortnight ago.

We have 3 children already (6,4 and 19m) and I'm 40, hubby 47.

Lovely staff at EPU said crack on again as soon as I'm ready- and not to worry about having a period first.

I've always had pretty irregular cycles anyway and have never tracked ovulation (we have been very lucky and fallen pregnant super easily- and this was my first MC).

I think I have just ovulated (Sunday) which was 14 days since spotting (main bleed from miscarriage was Tues 11, Weds 12 Oct).

My symptoms were bloating on Fri and Saturday, and real drop in mood over the weekend (I've noticed this has happened a few times a couple of weeks before period since cycles started after DD was born), by yesterday my mood was much more stable again. On Sunday I had mild nausea and very mild cramping (more like little twinges).
We DTD Sunday night.

So have fingers crossed that something might have happened!

I noticed yesterday evening and today I'm peeing more than usual but apparently that can be a sign of ovulation too.

I'm going to be a crazy lady symptom
spotting for a fortnight now! Have a cervical screening booked for a week today (wondering if I should cancel it?!)

What's the earliest anyone has had symptoms after DTD that turned out to be early pregnancy? And how many DPO have you got a positive?

@Holly0609 I also hoped I'd be one of those that conceived straight away! I just used the cheap ones and they stayed relatively faint.

I'm hoping you either ovulate or your period comes soon, do you have anything coming up to take your mind off of it? X

RaisingCornishWildlings · 18/11/2023 20:29

Im the same, I think I was probably a bit arrogant about it if I'm honest- having never had issues before: and being told you're so fertile after a MC, and knowing I DTD a lot during fertile window, I naively assumed it was a sure bet. Monday's AF was a rude awakening and lesson in humility!

@RaisingCornishWildlings are you feeling any better this evening? Sorry to hear about your mum, mine is also complicated and adds to my mental load rather than helping ease it!

Blueskies4 · 18/11/2023 20:41

Ah I’m sorry non of us seem to have had much luck this cycle ladies… fingers crossed for some Christmas magic!

I think I’m ovulating right now! Not sure if anyone else gets ovulation pains but I thought I had trapped wind earlier, but it’s very specifically one side to the point that I’ve got myself a hot water bottle! I’m CD11 and that’s when I usually do!

Holly0609 · 18/11/2023 20:55

@ThelastRolo20 im praying I do ovulate soon ☹️ my emotions have been all over the place last few days - either a sign of ovulation or impending period I’m assuming.
It’s horrible feeling hopeful isn’t it and then realising that it’s not going to happen to you!

Literally nothing to look forward to atm… I’m going back to work next week too (I’ve been off for 6 weeks 😭) absolutely dreading it.
I definitely need to plan some nice things to do I think ☹️. We are in the process of selling and buying a house and thought we’d be in the new house by now so we’ve not planned a single thing before Christmas.

I don’t feel in the Christmas spirit at all though, I hope I have a better mindset by then! X

Holly0609 · 18/11/2023 20:56

@RaisingCornishWildlings Praying it happens for you in your next cycle 🤞🏼.
and hope you start to feel better soon, sorry about your mum.
I’m the same as you though - having a rubbish week emotionally!
Hopefully we will have a better week next week x

Claudiasaz · 18/11/2023 21:18

Hey ladies!

Sounds like everyone's having a hard day. Can I join 😂 I'm cd13 ATM. Have been ovulating on cd12 my two cycles since my mc. Guess what - nothing yet this month! No positive ov test either. And I'm away with work Monday on an overnight.... of course.

I am sooo fed up now! It's like this sh*tty scenario is never ending.

RaisingCornishWildlings · 18/11/2023 21:54

Oh bless you @Claudiasaz ! I had my hopes pinned on you to be the first BFP with you nice short cycles!
If only our bodies could be like robots!!

How long are you away with work for? X

ThelastRolo20 · 19/11/2023 06:37

@Holly0609 the emotional side can be so difficult! I've definitely had my down days about it all.

Exciting about house move but the process is tough - any chance before Christmas? I'm going to try and get excited about Christmas just to distract myself x

ThelastRolo20 · 19/11/2023 06:39

@Claudiasaz hello! I think we're on another thread together 😊. This process is tough enough without our bodies throwing us curve balls! If you're away one night (even if that's ovulation day) that'll be okay, sex before and after to be sure.

I don't ovulate until day 14/15 and I'm only day 6 so I have a loong wait ahead x

Claudiasaz · 19/11/2023 08:07

@ThelastRolo20 ah yes during mc. Oh that's great to know thank you I just assumed would be out! X

Claudiasaz · 19/11/2023 08:11

@RaisingCornishWildlings I am away one night thankfully. I won't stay away more than one night ATM for this reason 😂 so hoping I might still have a chance. Hubby keeps saying not to stress. famous words. So glad for you on hubby coming back early!

mumsince2021 · 19/11/2023 09:24

No happy news here completely negative test this morning so just waiting out AFs arrival likely by mid week. I was prepared for it! Gutted to read everyone else is in the same boat for now. Considering not one of us has had any luck I'm definitely not convinced more fertile after MC is true

Roxystar23 · 19/11/2023 17:23

Good Evening ladies. Hope you’re all doing okay. So happy to have this thread and have other people that understand the emotional rollercoaster we find ourselves on.

I too had read that it was suggested that we were more likely to fall pregnant following MC. Surely with the amount of us in this thread we are due some positive news soon!? CD34 for me and still no AF but I felt like she was enroute this morning. Here’s to hoping Period #2 arrives soon. I’ve read that the second one can be late and it’s not unusual for it to be. I think I might be one of those people that takes 3/4 cycles to become regular again. DH is working away quite a bit in mid December so also hoping that isn’t when my body decides to ovulate. Who knows when that might be with my dodgy cycles! Haha!

ThelastRolo20 · 19/11/2023 18:18

I'm convinced we'll all have a run of good luck this month! 😂 Let's check in with where we are (if AF is behaving), I'm CD6, period still going but hoping it'll bugger off soon. Should ovulate day 14/15 if my cycle doesn't do anything crazy x

RaisingCornishWildlings · 19/11/2023 18:28

@ThelastRolo20 good idea.

I'm CD7, but tend to have longer and slightly irregular periods- last cycle (first cycle post MC) I ovulated on CD24 I believe, and ended up with a 34 day cycle.
The cycle i became pregnant, I'll assume I ovulated about 13th ish September based on when I got my positive and when we had sex, which would have been CD25.
Not tracking ov usually, I don't know before that when I likely Ov'd. But since end Dec last year when AF came back after my no3's birth; I've had cycles varying from 31 to 49'days!!

OP posts:
bluebunny2 · 19/11/2023 19:04

I’m CD 21 and tend to have 26/27 day cycles although last month was a chemical on day 29. Usually ovulate around day 12 I think although haven’t actually tracked since we were trying for our daughter. Think it could have been a bit later this month if at all. Don’t have any of the symptoms I had with the MC or chemical and already feel a bit like AF cramps are starting so just looking forward to moving on to the next cycle.

RaisingCornishWildlings · 19/11/2023 19:31

If my body decided to follow a rhythm I'll be looking likely for ovulation around 6-7 Dec so I'll be DTD a lot all the way through the first week and more of Dec if DH makes it home. If not, will be mid Jan I guess!

Claudiasaz · 19/11/2023 21:02

Hi all .

Definitely calling BS on being more fertile after going by our chat! 😂

I'm CD14 and still no peak on ovulation. The last two months ovulated cd12. I don't know when I ovulated with this last pregnancy that ended in MC as was a lovely surprise, poor bean. My previous two children, I did ovulate later in cycle- so I'm guessing I'm back to my previous cycles now but who knows what will happen next month. 😬

Heading off for a night away with work tomorrow so guess it'll be an early morning treat for hubby before I go and if I get the peak tomorrow, a warm welcome home 😂

ThelastRolo20 · 19/11/2023 21:22

@RaisingCornishWildlings hopefully hubby times his time home for potential ovulation 😊 @bluebunny2 sorry to hear that it looks like AF is on the way but you never know - keep us updated! @Claudiasaz sounds like you're going back to previous cycles! Definitely keep testing and make up for lost time when you're back from your night away 😂

Vic231 · 19/11/2023 21:28

I'm CD5 today, my cycles are generally 23 Days so it's pretty much go go go for me 😂

Vic231 · 19/11/2023 21:29

@RaisingCornishWildlings that's exciting he could be home soon! When will you know for sure?

mumsince2021 · 19/11/2023 21:43

I've read that the older you are the shorter your cycles are typically. I wonder if that's true? Mines have probably for shorter as I got older. Also read a study that claimed the whole sperm can survive inside you for up to 5 days was actually only about a 5% chance and it's more typically a couple of days max they survive which doesn't help!

My cycles have always varied from 24-27 days with the odd 23 or 28 day cycle. From my most recent tracking I do tend to ovulate early though around CD 10 so really not much time to conceive after AF ends especially if you can to leave a day between for more build up 🤦‍♀️ I sure hope some of us have some good news in December 🤞

Claudiasaz · 20/11/2023 09:37

That's very interesting about cycles. Mine were very irregular when I first stopped my pill when I was 29. Then after my first child went to 28 days. Could be age I guess!?

I am dubious about the sperm living for 5 days too - maybe that's an age thing too haha.

TTC is just wild. Can't believe I was up at 5am for a session before going away for the night 😂 Hoping I'll get the peak on the ov sticks in the next couple of days! No problems really having more sex but equally just want to ovulate now- a bit tired 😂

Holly0609 · 20/11/2023 10:09

Hi everyone!
I finally got a static smiley face today yay!!
22 days since surgical management 😅
Going to DTD today and tomorrow but we haven’t DTD all week because my husband has had knee surgery ☹️ so won’t be feeling very optimistic hmm.
So glad I finally got a static smiley though - thought ovulation was not going to happen!
