TTC after early miscarriage

1000 replies

RaisingCornishWildlings · 24/10/2023 09:59

Morning!
So I sadly suffered an early miscarriage at 5w just over a fortnight ago.

We have 3 children already (6,4 and 19m) and I'm 40, hubby 47.

Lovely staff at EPU said crack on again as soon as I'm ready- and not to worry about having a period first.

I've always had pretty irregular cycles anyway and have never tracked ovulation (we have been very lucky and fallen pregnant super easily- and this was my first MC).

I think I have just ovulated (Sunday) which was 14 days since spotting (main bleed from miscarriage was Tues 11, Weds 12 Oct).

My symptoms were bloating on Fri and Saturday, and real drop in mood over the weekend (I've noticed this has happened a few times a couple of weeks before period since cycles started after DD was born), by yesterday my mood was much more stable again. On Sunday I had mild nausea and very mild cramping (more like little twinges).
We DTD Sunday night.

So have fingers crossed that something might have happened!

I noticed yesterday evening and today I'm peeing more than usual but apparently that can be a sign of ovulation too.

I'm going to be a crazy lady symptom
spotting for a fortnight now! Have a cervical screening booked for a week today (wondering if I should cancel it?!)

What's the earliest anyone has had symptoms after DTD that turned out to be early pregnancy? And how many DPO have you got a positive?

@Cat2022 I started using them around day 10 before, I ovulated day 15 that cycle. Mine stayed very faint until the evening of day 14 and then I had a rapid peak and decline on 15! So test a couple of times a day.

@Roxystar23 couple be but could also be pregnancy symptoms! They're very similar :) hope you find out either way soon. I'm on day 2 and it's not too heavy, weird type of cramps too but I guess it's going to be a bit weird as it's the first one. Hoping it doesn't last too long/ get too heavy

Roxystar23 · 16/11/2023 11:41

@ThelastRolo20 - Still no sign of her yet! Although there is now a small colony forming on my chin! Haha!
Crossing everything for you that the cramping doesn’t get too painful for you and isn’t majorly heavy.

RaisingCornishWildlings · 16/11/2023 11:45

@Roxystar23 maybe it's your month! Everything crossed for you!

After a couple of heavy flow days, my AF seems to be petering out so I'll just focus next cycle on getting to really know my symptoms so I don't miss anything in the new year! X

ThelastRolo20 · 16/11/2023 11:46

@Roxystar23 haha bad luck about the colony! Have you done a test just in case?

I personally think I'm just going mad now. AF has been decent but not heavy and felt weirdly emotional (I suppose normal due to AF after MC) but I did a test just in case. It's either an evap line, or still HCG (which after 4 weeks I thought unlikely - I thought I'd had a negative at 3 weeks). It's so faint I had to put an old test above it to even see the shadow of a line. Guess the only thing I can do tomorrow is test with FMU, I did it today with second wee and I'd only be 9/10 DPO. Can you see anything on there or have I officially lost the plot. Seems mental I'm even considering it when I appear to be on my period 😂

I can definitely see a very faint line on the top strip. Maybe it's left over HCG?
Maybe hold off til Saturday or even Sunday and use FMU? It'll be a stronger line if a new pregnancy and will be hopefully gone if old HcG xxxx

ThelastRolo20 · 16/11/2023 12:53

Period has gotten heavier so reckon left over HCG 😊 onto the next month!

Claudiasaz · 17/11/2023 08:21

Just to say my missed MC was early September. My first period was short and not as heavy. Second more normal. I am however having random spotting in my fertile week and even in my cm. Going to keep an eye on it and call Dr if not resolved next cycle. Can you even get pregnant if spotting is my question? 🤔 Noone talks about all of this after mc so trying to be transparent in case anyone else experiences a bit later! X

Roxystar23 · 17/11/2023 08:52

Morning Everyone!

I thought I would try a pregnancy test strip this morning as I haven't had my 2nd post MC visit from AF yet. There wasn't even a squinter of a line but I think I was due to start either yesterday or today (varies depending on app). I have come to the conclusion that It's probably that I'm unfortunately experiencing irregular cycles which is frustrating! Therefore, it looks like I shall also be looking at December now for my next chance. @RaisingCornishWildlings - Hooray that you're almost through - Here's to better tracking in Dec for all of us. :)

@ThelastRolo20 - I've been staring at the strips until the point that it's made my eyes go funny, but I think I can see something there too. Why do our bodies make it so confusing for us. If it helps - I still had HCG showing on a strip up until 7 weeks after my MC. It was upsetting and confusing that I just wanted there to be no line on there so my body could reset when previously all I had ever wanted to see was a nice bold line. Hope you're okay!

@Claudiasaz - I had some spotting further down the line but it turned out to be some retained product. I didn't experience a period until 7 weeks later though - because you have experienced 2 since I don't think it can be because of retained tissue. Sorry that i'm not much help but hopefully I'm helping to eliminate possible scenarios at least!

Claudiasaz · 17/11/2023 08:59

@Roxystar23 I'm sorry! It sucks when you want it so badly x

I had a scan a month after MC as I was still testing positive and there was nothing retained so who knows but thanks for your reply! Wondering if it's because I had larger things to expel as mc was discovered at my 12 w scan maybe it's to do with that I don't know. I've decided if I don't get pregnant this month I'll book a smear to be safe otherwise I'm using Dr Google! 😂

ThelastRolo20 · 17/11/2023 09:10

@Roxystar23 sorry it's becoming irregular, that's so frustrating. Hopefully AF arrives soon for you so you can move onto the next cycle.

I had a rubbish day emotionally yesterday, every time I felt like that during the MC I had a noticeable drop in HCG the next day so I reckon it was very minor HCG left over leaving. I do think after this period though it should be over! I haven't had clots or pain (had a heavier night than usual though) so I don't think there was much, if anything left over.

Just looking forward to giving TTC this month a go. Each month seems to last a lifetime though! Hope you're okay xx

mumsince2021 · 17/11/2023 14:39

I was really hoping we'd have some good news here for our current cycles given they always say your more fertile after MC... hopefully in the coming months! I'm at about (estimated) 8 DPO and already thinking of testing on Sunday at 10 😂 stop me please!

RaisingCornishWildlings · 17/11/2023 16:58

@mumsince2021 it's so hard to talk yourself out of an early test isn't it?

I'm on period day 5 now and it's very light. Normally they last 5 days so hopefully that's it almost finished.

Today I've felt kinda off and almost pregnancy symptoms which is of course impossible but feel headachy and mildly nauseous, feel like I've
Been for a wee about a thousand times today!

So now, naturally been Googling stories about people having heavy bleeds but still being pregnant and driving myself utterly bonkers
As obviously I know I'm not!!

I really expected out of us all there would be someone with a BFP this round- maybe someone will be giving their DH a very exciting Christmas present instead! Xxx

OP posts:
ThelastRolo20 · 17/11/2023 17:06

@RaisingCornishWildlings I was doing the exact same, trying to convince myself my period wasn't a period! It's so tough isn't it. Have you done a test just in case? Especially as it's lighter - at least then you'll know.

Fingers crossed for a few Christmas positives!

Vic231 · 17/11/2023 17:08

@RaisingCornishWildlings @ThelastRolo20 haha I was doing the exact same, yesterday morning just after breakfast I felt so sick I thought I might throw up and then was wondering... even bought new cheapy tests as I ran out and they've just arrived but I know I'm being ridiculous!

RaisingCornishWildlings · 17/11/2023 17:09

If I still feel Nauseous when I wake up I'll do a test... it's madness isn't it?

On period days 1 and 2 it was really pretty heavy though, heavier than normal I'd say. Not really any clots thought.

i know I'm being utterly daft and my stupid baby obsessed brain just won't accept I'm not pregnant !

OP posts:
ThelastRolo20 · 17/11/2023 17:12

@Vic231 @RaisingCornishWildlings ha glad it's not just me! TTC does the weirdest thing to our brains.

I'm definitely out given it's now a normal period. Hope you both get answers either way in the morning x

Cat2022 · 17/11/2023 18:37

@RaisingCornishWildlings i have had such bad headaches this period.

I’m going to start ovulation tracking tomorrow I think as I have no clue what my cycle will be doing now.

Claudiasaz · 17/11/2023 20:06

Yes I also went through this last week with my spotting 😭😂 I didn't test though and saved myself a few £ 😂

@mumsince2021 Was also thinking that about being more fertile after mc. I was more fertile before a MC personally! And had a normal bloody cycle!

Nevermind our day will come soon🙏

RaisingCornishWildlings · 18/11/2023 08:12

I did a test. OF COURSE it was negative. I feel so rubbish though. Must be coming down with a bug.

On a brighter note, heard from hubby today and he thinks he might be back pretty soon (might even catch my next cycle!) so keeping fingers and toes firmly crossed! Do

OP posts:
ThelastRolo20 · 18/11/2023 16:55

@RaisingCornishWildlings it doesn't matter how slim the hope is, it always massively sucks. Good news about hubby though - fingers crossed the timing works out!

My period has been very normal overall so hoping that's good signs for this cycle. I've told my husband to cancel any evening plans next weekend 😂

Holly0609 · 18/11/2023 17:33

Hi everyone. I’ve been reading this thread - I’m feeling crappy too. Cycle day 20 (counted from my surgical management) and I still haven’t ovulated 🥺💔 it was the only thing keeping me going after my miscarriage, I was so focused on TTC again but no idea what my body is doing ☹️☹️

Hoping we all get our rainbows soon 🌈

RaisingCornishWildlings · 18/11/2023 18:45

@Holly0609 hopefully you'll ovulate soon. Our bodies all seem hell-bent on upsetting and confusing us at the moment, it feels so unfair!

I am in the most foul mood today- and utterly emotionally drained. Have a very difficult aged and increasingly disabled mother who is declining but won't accept help/carer /is just a massive pain in the arse, and conversations with her are the most stressful part of my life! Dealing with her s%$! This week has just about ended me 😭😭😭

bluebunny2 · 18/11/2023 19:34

Hi all, sorry it’s so rubbish for us this month. I’m only 6-8 dpo but definitely don’t feel remotely pregnant and not holding out any hope for this month. I even had some wine last night as after having done everything right last month it was still a chemical anyway. I’m keeping fingers crossed that next month will be the one for at least some of the people on this thread!

ThelastRolo20 · 18/11/2023 19:42

@Holly0609 i totally understand how you feel, I clung onto the hope of ovulating straight after the MMC, I had some signs but I don't think I did as my OPKs never got stronger.

It's a horrible wait but it may take a period first before you do x

Holly0609 · 18/11/2023 19:51

@ThelastRolo20 ☹️☹️☹️ it is so, so rubbish isn’t it 😔 I read so much positive stuff - about people having a miscarriage and 4 weeks later getting a BFP. I was praying that would be me.

It’s been almost 6 weeks since my MMC too, I never imagined I’d be this far down the line without ovulation or even a period! I wish I’d had surgery straight away.

Did you do clearblue ovulation sticks too after your miscarriage?
I did end up buying some a few days ago and I’ve had 3 days of flashing smileys.
but my cheap OPK’s are still so faint.

My family keep telling me to not put so much pressure on myself to get pregnant straight away but it’s all we can hope for isn’t it?! It makes you so desperate ☹️
