TTC after early miscarriage

1000 replies

RaisingCornishWildlings · 24/10/2023 09:59

Morning!
So I sadly suffered an early miscarriage at 5w just over a fortnight ago.

We have 3 children already (6,4 and 19m) and I'm 40, hubby 47.

Lovely staff at EPU said crack on again as soon as I'm ready- and not to worry about having a period first.

I've always had pretty irregular cycles anyway and have never tracked ovulation (we have been very lucky and fallen pregnant super easily- and this was my first MC).

I think I have just ovulated (Sunday) which was 14 days since spotting (main bleed from miscarriage was Tues 11, Weds 12 Oct).

My symptoms were bloating on Fri and Saturday, and real drop in mood over the weekend (I've noticed this has happened a few times a couple of weeks before period since cycles started after DD was born), by yesterday my mood was much more stable again. On Sunday I had mild nausea and very mild cramping (more like little twinges).
We DTD Sunday night.

So have fingers crossed that something might have happened!

I noticed yesterday evening and today I'm peeing more than usual but apparently that can be a sign of ovulation too.

I'm going to be a crazy lady symptom
spotting for a fortnight now! Have a cervical screening booked for a week today (wondering if I should cancel it?!)

What's the earliest anyone has had symptoms after DTD that turned out to be early pregnancy? And how many DPO have you got a positive?

@bluebunny2 That's so tough. I'm sorry. X

@RaisingCornishWildlings My period started weirdly this month. Hopefully yours isn't! I'm over the random periods here it's driving me mad if you can tell 😄Hope you're okay with hubby going x

mumsince2021 · 13/11/2023 13:39

That's annoying @RaisingCornishWildlings but who knows if we're even really ovulating just after the losses 🤦‍♀️ was hoping it was a good sign for you.

I think I'm probably about 4 DPO but I'm not sure if I have ovulated. I did have the usual fertile CM and we DTD twice around then so there's a chance but I'm not holding out hope for this cycle. Easier to take the disappointment if I'm prepared!

I have heard than apparently most women ovulate 10 times a year so that means there may be a couple of cycles without ovulation that we are unaware of?

Hopefully one of us will have some luck very soon here 🤞

ThelastRolo20 · 13/11/2023 15:46

@mumsince2021 I agree, better to be prepared for a not great outcome. Such a slim chance straight after but you never know. Looks like you're probably 2/3 days behind me - are you an early tester or will you hold on? X

mumsince2021 · 13/11/2023 15:58

@ThelastRolo20 I try to hold off until 12 DPO I have a load of cheap strip tests so likely will use one around then unless I've got any spotting or AF comes first! It's going to be impossible to get excited even if it's another BFP honestly hate the early weeks of pregnancy now. I was so good as well and cut out all the caffeine and improved my diet after that last BFP and it feels like it was all for nothing 🤦‍♀️ just checked and 12 DPO will be about the 23rd Nov so that will be my likely test date. What's your plan?

ThelastRolo20 · 13/11/2023 16:02

@mumsince2021 so sorry that early pregnancy no longer feels exciting, but I completely understand. It's so different after a MC isn't it. Did you have any MCs before your son, or just after?

I don't know, I'm not holding out any hope, I don't even know if I ovulated! And I just feel it's so unlikely without a normal period first. I'm probably going to test this Saturday which is around 11/12 DPO - only so I know if I can have a glass of wine! But I'm trying to tell myself that it doesn't matter - my body probably needs longer to get back to "normal"

mumsince2021 · 13/11/2023 16:06

@ThelastRolo20 yeah I had 2 early miscarriages before I had my son. I was booked in for a fertility appointment just before I conceived him as I was convinced my body was incapable of maintaining a pregnancy. I think this last loss was a shock as I thought well I can have a successful pregnancy now after my son but it seems the vast majority of the time I can't. At least I know it's possible as with my pregnancy with my son I didn't take anything that would have helped it... no aspirin, progesterone or anything 🤷‍♀️

mumsince2021 · 13/11/2023 16:07

Also yes @ThelastRolo20 I was sometimes driven to early testing due to drinking too! I don't drink much these days at home so won't need to test for that reason until a planned night out at the end of this month 😅

RaisingCornishWildlings · 13/11/2023 17:42

😭😭😭 bitch AF has arrived. Today of all bloody days! I'm so fed up but bought a lot of comfort food from Tesco to gorge on once the kids are in bed.

I never have tiny bits of random spotting before a period- it just arrives- so I feel like my body has been taunting me for 24 hours before it arrived.

Hubby is gutted too- I messaged to tell him the crappy news and he said he welled up.

Guess at least I can drink at Christmas! Pass the Baileys!

@RaisingCornishWildlings this was what I had last week. Two days of pink spotting. And period was day 23. So odd. It sucks I'm sorry. But I feel a hell of a lot better than I did this time last week, so you will too! I'm glad you have all the snacks, crap TV too! Hugs x

RaisingCornishWildlings · 13/11/2023 18:26

@Claudiasaz thank you my love. It's such a kick in the teeth isn't it? Glad you're feeling better though. And you're lucky with your short cycles!

My next fertile window is likely early Dec now due to longer cycles so DH will be away. Will have to wait for January now.
Was hoping for a smaller age gap between no 3 and 4. And now already wondering when DH and I will call time on trying... as I think he'll be away in feb too. So our opportunities will be sparse!

I'll closely track my cycle this month and just hope 2024 is our year! Xx

Well this one seems more normal. So it's changed again 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

That's a good idea maybe make notes on the app with the little symptoms! It will genuinely be January before we know it too x

Cat2022 · 14/11/2023 08:18

@RaisingCornishWildlings sending big hugs! January will be here in no time. Mine is a lot heavier than normal I was wide awake with cramps at 5am. I have been trying to eat healthier but going to have some nice things today

ThelastRolo20 · 14/11/2023 10:23

@RaisingCornishWildlings so sorry AF arrived. I hope you get a chance to try early in the new year xx

ThelastRolo20 · 14/11/2023 10:24

@Cat2022 that doesn't sound fun, what have you got planned to take your mind off of it? X

RaisingCornishWildlings · 14/11/2023 10:31

@Cat2022 oh no!

mine seems pretty heavy now too and I took painkillers for the cramps as o just don't want to be reminded of my body not doing what I wanted, especially since the last time I bled was losing a pregnancy 😢 feeling a bit sorry for myself but toddler is keeping me occupied.
I'll enjoy Christmas and then see what January brings 🤞🤞 we've all got each other here for company!

Xx

@RaisingCornishWildlings I'm sorry your periods arrived, it’s super disappointing isn’t it, sending love x

Im definitely putting my energy into Christmas too, luckily it’s a lovely time of year and baileys is on!

I have my gynaecology app booked for early Dec so hoping we can sort my wonky cycles out xx

Vic231 · 14/11/2023 11:22

@RaisingCornishWildlings oh I'm so sorry that AF has arrived. I don't think I will be far behind you tbh, another BFN this morning and a bit of brown blood when I wiped earlier. AF due tomorrow. Feeling a bit sorry for myself today.

@Cat2022 sorry to hear AF is so heavy and painful. I hope you have a good hot water bottle to hug? And some of your favourite treats!

Claudiasaz · 14/11/2023 11:38

Hugs ladies, was hoping for a bit of good news from one of you. Periods are the worst even when you're not TTC.and then the hormones to deal with!

X

ThelastRolo20 · 14/11/2023 14:07

Period has arrived, officially cycle day 1. First period since miscarriage and it's come exactly 4 weeks after so I reckon that's a good sign - I'm pretty happy it's arrived to be honest! X

mumsince2021 · 14/11/2023 15:12

@ThelastRolo20 Yeah it's good to keep positive and think of it as a good sign everything's on time as expected. I will honestly be shocked if I had any luck this cycle and I'd quite like to at least see AF arrive on time without any random mid cycle spotting or anything. I'll just focus on my night out at the end of the month and Christmas prep! I'd have liked to see some of us get our rainbows sooner but we're all here for each other and just need to keep going hopefully the months ahead will have some luck for us all

Claudiasaz · 14/11/2023 17:25

Can anyone who's had previous mc shed any light please. I've just finished second period since. Last month had some pinky blood with egg white cm. This week have spotted since period and now egg white cm is very bloody. Do I need to be worried? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance x

Roxystar23 · 14/11/2023 18:41

Hello Ladies!

Sorry to those of you that have had a visit from Bitch AF! I’m CD29 so anticipating my own visit. 13DPO.

@ThelastRolo20 Such good news that your body seems to be sticking to your pre-MC cycle. That helps to take out a lot of the guesswork for tracking. It took me quite a while to get my first one and I’m just waiting to see if my 2nd one is going to arrive on time.

ThelastRolo20 · 14/11/2023 19:10

Thanks @Roxystar23 - it does help knowing I'm hopefully back to normal! when is yours due to arrive? Guessing any day now if you're 13DPO? X

Cat2022 · 15/11/2023 17:17

Hi ladies! After being very heavy af has started to slow down again. What day do yous start using OPKs? I only have some cheapies off Amazon for this month but don’t want to miss the window if there is one.

Roxystar23 · 15/11/2023 17:44

@ThelastRolo20 - I think I’m due on tomorrow. I also think I might have the start of some mild cramping and bloating…I’ve also got the mini flare up of spots on my chin which I always get when I’m due on. However, if I remember correctly I got these the month I found out I was pregnant. I reckon that pesky AF will be here soon though.
