2023 TTC 35+

1000 replies

VixFromThe6ix · 24/02/2023 01:42

Hi everyone!!
Wanted to start another group thread for those TTC that are 35+.
When I was first trying, this group helped me a lot. We bonded and went through pains and celebrations together. I had two MCs over 2yrs of trying and lots of crying as I was typing many of my posts. Support helped... Especially at this age.
I had my first baby Jan 2022 and here we are now trying for baby #2.
I'll be 40 this summer!!!
Join me and share your story ☺️

Making Babies first. I’ve just watched the special and it’s an update on the couples.

Enjoy! I’m so pleased I found it.

Aww thank you so much @FiddleLeaf ! Will enjoy watching this! Xxx

I was thinking of using that clinic because they seem fantastic. Love the main doc.

How have you found them?

What is the clinic called ladies? Xxx

TheBirdintheCave · 11/03/2023 21:19

@Floralsandsmiles It's King's Fertility Denmark Hill :)

They will make embryos from any eggs we get and then we can pay to freeze the rest for future use if we need them. The charge to freeze is extra and a frozen transfer cycle is about £1.5k.

@FiddleLeaf Good so far bar the messing up of the paperwork which set me back a cycle 🙄 We haven't met any of the tv doctors or nurses yet but I'm sure we'll come across them at some point.

that’s frustrating! We have a closer clinic that’s rated slightly higher but I love how passionate the main doctor is.

Hopefully it’ll happen naturally but at least I’m not scared of IVF now. I had no clue what it entailed before!

Aww thank you @TheBirdintheCave! The one I looked at that is more local to us is CARE fertility Tunbridge Wells. I don't know if that one is as good though? Xxx

Floralsandsmiles · 11/03/2023 21:46

Has anyone looked at this and if its worth it?

gaiafamily.com/guides/ivf-insurance

Fee for the insurance and you pay nothing back on IVF costs unless you are successful?? Feels like a scam?! Xxxx

Un7breakable · 12/03/2023 07:14

Anyone else in their TWW? Feeling pretty negative this cycle. Ovulated several days early so on BD on day of ovulation. Don't rate my chances. Also think we'll need to put TTC on hold for a few months due to other things going on 😣

I looked into it and it doesn't seem worth it to me as they won't insure you for a single cycle, I think four or five is the lowest they go. It's worth it if you can guarantee you'll have a live birth on cycle 1... but that's not really possible to know. One could end up with a baby on the sixth cycle and are then looking at paying back £10-£20k's worth of treatment.

Blessedmummytobe · 12/03/2023 08:49

Hi, jumping on here. 38 ttc #1 using Smep. Anyone had any luck?

Yes this is what I thought too, looked good but after reading the small print, that they will continue until you have a baby and then you pay it all back. Seems like the bill eventually will be 10-20k. But whose to say it wouldn't get to that total elsewhere anyway? At a single cycle being 4-6k. Then after that it could be maybe 2-4k (with a collected frozen egg from first cycle hopefully). You're at the 10k mark already? Xxxx @TheBirdintheCave

TheBirdintheCave · 12/03/2023 09:20

@Floralsandsmiles Post IVF they freeze embryos not eggs so you're not paying for an full cycle for a frozen transfer if that makes sense, just for medication to get you ready to put a pre-made embryo back which shouldn't be more than £2k. :)

But yes, one fresh and three frozen (coming to around £10k at our clinic) cycles is about all we could manage and we'd have to call it a day after that. I can't guarantee we'd even have that many embryos though :/

Thanks @TheBirdintheCave . So if they couldnt get more eggs, and only the 4, it would mean they wouldn't be able to do more than that anyway? So total cost would be the 10k? But at least you know they will do everything possible to try get you a baby? If nothing comes out of it, you have the assurance of not having to pay a penny back? Xxx

I am/was in my tww.... But 10dpo today and got bfn. I don't feel preggo. I'm probably getting my red friend soon.
Our first cycle trying again so I can't be too bummed.... I know as cycles pass I'd likely get more and more bummed.
So ya just waiting for my flowy friend....yay.

Sorry to hear that you're going to put TTC on hold. For how long?? Sometimes it's better though so not to have to stress over it.

Un7breakable · 12/03/2023 17:21

Sorry to hear about the BFN, you're not out till AF turns up. Not sure, probably 2 months, maybe longer. What will be will be but it's the right call, just with age it makes me nervous but has to be done. Never known maybe once was enough.

TheBirdintheCave · 12/03/2023 17:28

@Floralsandsmiles Do you mean in terms of Gaia? If, say, you got two embryos and your fresh and frozen round was a failure then Gaia would expect you to start another fresh cycle (at another £4k in my case) and carry on until you'd had the amount of failed cycles agreed in your insurance policy before they'd agree you had no more to pay.

You could cancel early but they'd expect you to pay everything back as if you'd had a live birth.

@TheBirdintheCave yes I understand, but if you only had say 4 eggs left and you used all those and were unsuccessful, gaia couldn't then keep trying with you (for more cycles) and therefore you'd pay nothing back for treatment already carried out? You'd be devasted obviously, but not at a loss financially? Xxx

TheBirdintheCave · 12/03/2023 18:32

@Floralsandsmiles No they'd expect you to do another fresh cycle to get more embryos to try with to complete the six cycles that you agreed to insure. If you then chose not to go ahead they'd see that as breach of contract and ask you to pay the full amount of treatment.

TheBirdintheCave · 12/03/2023 18:33

@Floralsandsmiles I checked back with my emails and the lowest number of cycles they offered to insure me for was five but it was at a higher cost. Six is their usual amount. I asked for four but they refused.

Negative test here also at what I think is 8dpo

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/03/2023 20:29

Possibly 9dpo

FiddleLeaf · 12/03/2023 21:32

Evening all, I decided not to test today afterall. I’ve got PMT though - irritated, sensitive & I’ve cried twice today 😬

I’m pretty sure AF will appear next weekend, sadly & I’ve just had a big glass of wine.

Sorry to read about you BFNs ladies.

VixFromThe6ix · 12/03/2023 22:16

I might join in on a glass of wine. Feeling annoyed easily and some chocolate and wine usually helps with that ☺️
I don't know why I expected that first time trying would be it, lol. Or why I started testing at 6dpo.
I think I'm still processing that we just started what was a traumatic process again, and I was trying to romanticize it.
The app gave me a heads up my period is due in 2 days. That would mean my luteal phase is 12 days. Is that in the normal range?

OP posts:
Mummyme87 · 12/03/2023 22:20

@VixFromThe6ix my LP is 12days. I believe it’s within the normal range.

I’m 8dpo, boobs super super sore… they’re always sore/tender in TWW, twingy pains in very low abdomen particularly more to the left….I think that’s fairly normal in my TWW also.
I have 5 cheapies, I’ll be likely tempted to test tomorrow even though I know it’s too early

VixFromThe6ix · 12/03/2023 22:25

@Mummyme87 fingers crossed!!! So tempting to test early when we have cheapies lol cause can always just get more. If I was buying clear blue I would test at 12dpo 🤣
My DC was positive at 8dpo, which I know is early but could be.... Those cheapies I find are very sensitive. I use easy at home ones
