Starting IVF December 2022- looking for a tribe!

Hello fellow IVF buddies (hopefully),

My wife and I will be starting our first round of IVF in December/ January. I will be carrying.

We lost a baby this time last year with a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks. So this is a charged time of year for us.
We are excited and nervous.

We have had our initial consultation- AMH and egg reserve looked good.

We have our nurses appointment this week.

I am always terrified of being weighed- I’m always sitting in the 29 category- I would love to be lower but struggle with weight loss.
How many times and when were you weighed during your cycles?

Looking for others who are going through IVF at this time to swap anxieties and stories with a keep each other going.

I confide in my wife also, but sometimes it’s nice to talk to the stranger friends you make here to keep you going!!

thanks
Mrs M-w

Heeey, first of all exciting news! I’m not quite at that stage yet with IVF but I was wondering if you’re doing it private or through NHS and what the waiting time was for you? I’m aware it’ll be different accross the country. Just for info, I was referred for IVF about 4 years ago but my 9 year relationship broke down - bitter sweet as I’m now with the love of my life 🥰 so just doing a bit of research. As I endometriosis confirmed, we will be off to drs early next year for an IVF referral no doubt (unless a Christmas miracle happens in the meantime) x

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage last year 😔 fingers crossed for a smooth journey for you both ✨

Hi @Yolo23
We are NHS. We were 18months on the wait list from initial referral. Which was delayed because of the pandemic!
We had our initial appointment June 2021.
We had to have counselling and then had our first treatment in September 2021. We had 6 rounds of IUI and then were referred to IVF.
We were 7 months on that waiting list.

I also have endometriosis and have had 3 surgeries!

It's a journey!!

@mrsmw132 ahh thank you! That’s really helpful info and has definitely given me some clarify with when to follow up with the GP. I’m on 2 surgeries myself :) hopefully that’s all for us both now! Endo is awful. Sending you both lots of well wishes for the future, best of luck x

@mrsmw132 I'm currently waiting on my first frozen transfer which I'm hoping will be next week, this will be our second transfer after the first ended in a miscarriage at 8 weeks.
Not sure if your private or NHS but NHS are very strict on BMI's, this has caused me so much stress over the past year as like you, I struggle with my weight so its a push to get to 30.
I hope your journey is smooth and positive and agreed, its nice to have other peoples views/experiences when going through something so sensitive.
Feel free to ask anything if unsure :) x

Hi there,

We are NHs too.
I'm so sorry about your miscarriage. It's a heart breaking process.

We are just starting our first round in December but I think we will be slightly hindered because of Christmas!

When did they weigh you in the process? I got weighed at my initial consultation last week but don't know if they will do it every time they see me or not.

I'm glad it's not just me who struggles with it.

Hello!
We are also due to start our first ivf cycle in December. I'm just waiting for day 1 to start of cycle then start neds on day 16. I'm super nervous about it all!
We are NHS patients but funded via the armed forces as hubby is currently serving. I've waited 3 years to start IVF but more because hubby kept getting posted abroad for months! My BMI is also 29 and no one has questioned it? So far?
Good luck everyone!

SH998 · 22/11/2022 15:11

@mrsmw132 fingers crossed you wouldn't be too hindered over the Christmas period, my NHS unit only closes Christmas/Boxing day so hopefully yours will be the same and continue throughout the Christmas break. I'm weighed every 3 months, my hospital are very strict with it. Hopefully yours will be a little more lenient x

Good to know- I will make sure to stay out of the Christmas sweetie boxes. Must keep up my walking and maybe add swimming!

They phoned today to move my appointment forward 45 mins, she said I'm not going to be weighed at this appointment.
But I literally still have the fear!
I'll keep you updated!

@mrsmw132 fingers crossed you will be fine, the stress every weigh day caused me was unreal. It was almost as stressful as the actual IVF process
Good luck, I’ll keep everything crossed x

Evening all- we had our appointment today! No scales!
Sooooooooo much paper work. We had to change lots of our consent forms because we had got married.
Plan is for down regulation at the start of my period, then stims in the new year!
Getting excited 😆

I'm now counting down the days till I can start this first cycle. As always when anxious, my endometriosis flares 😩
Hoping that AF will be with me in 10 days, triggering the start of our cycle.
I'm going on a short protocol. My AMH was a good number so hoping for a good response.
Feeling nervous but anxious to start c

Good luck on your journey, I wouldn't pretend its easy but as long as you have the support of family and friends you will be fine. The next few weeks will drag like they have never dragged before lol.
I had my frozen transfer on Monday, the waiting game has begun again! x

I will be thinking of you. Yes, waiting for my period is going to drag. Usually it's the opposite- waiting for your period not to come.

Two week wait sucks.
It will be a year since our bad scan when our cycle starts. Hopefully something good will come this time xx

Hello!

I’m starting IVF Dec/Jan.

I had my BMI check on Wednesday at the clinic. I’m also always just under or just above 30. 29.5 on Wednesday so I have been given the go ahead to start.

My meds came Friday, so full steam ahead really. I’ve got to have some bloods done on Tuesday with DH and then I’m waiting for cycle day 21 to arrive on Friday before I start with down regulation drugs.

I’m on my only NHS round so really hoping it works/I have some to freeze. Stims will likely start after Christmas and egg collection/transfer in Jan.

You are on the same as me! What hospital are you with, I'm Edinburgh.

I'm just waiting for my period then I will get my meds.

Our plan is stims end of Dec and egg collection early Jan so we will be on the same journey! Wishing you the best and thankful to have others in our tribe ❤️

@mrsmw132 Cycle buddies! It’s great to be going through this with others. It helps. No-one really knows at all, we’ve kept it quiet so this board is the only place I can really go to with others who get it!

I’m with CARE in the East Midlands, we got to choose from about 5 different clinics as part of the referral. CARE has good results and it’s only 20 mins away in the car, so ideal for us.

Are you long or short protocol?

I’m a bag of nerves at the moment. We’ve been ttc for 3.5 years, never had a BFP. We’re unexplained. whilst I’m trying to not get too hopeful, I can’t help hoping by the end of Jan we might just have a BFP!

Hello,

I'm expected to be on the short protocol. According to the clinic I call on the first day on my period and they will finalise the plan then.

I'm nervous and excited. It's almost a year since we lost our baby. 3 more iui and then a long waiting list for IVF.

Holding for my new years wish ❤️

Update:

I had cycle day 1 13th Dec.
Two days later I got my pre treatment.
Weigh in (arrrrgh I passed), scans, lots of eggos and a sunny transfer.
They have decided that especially with the winter closures it was best to wait till cycle day 1 of Jan cycle and start stims on the first two days of that.
That's instead of the down regulation this month, 5 day bleed and stims.

I was a bit down - mostly because I like to have an element of control.
However, once my period start next month, we will be full go go!!

@mrsmw132 January will be here before you know it!!!

I’m currently doing down regulation. Day 8 of buserelin today. Period is late but I’ve read that’s a common side effect of down regulation. Need to have a bleed before I call them to arrange down regulation scan.

Down regulation isn’t much fun to be honest. Lots of waiting around and more injections!

@mrsmw132 No date yet!

Still waiting for a bleed - but buserelin can delay it I’ve read. I’ll know dates once I’ve had a bleed and down regulation is confirmed.

How are you getting on @Lauralozzle ??
I'm waiting on my January period (yes, I know it's still December)
I genuinely have 0 patience. Think I'm going to start yoga tomorrow to calm the anxiety.
Got my two dogs keeping me sane with lots of walks
